  • John Fitzgerald Kennedy's greatest speech (in my humble opinion).

  • the stereo is broken D:

  • I love this speech!

  • There are three major political parties in the United States...The Democrats, the Republicans and the Kennedys

  • 50 fuckin years on an people are still talking about the jelly doughnut...who cares! He took his massive balls, the same ones he used to help him save all the men on his ship in WWII,and shoved them right in Communism's face. What a man.

  • @DustyAndPistolPete A genuine war hero. But they won't say that.

  • A great moment in history by a great man in history...

  • @kelscav22 JFK and his translator were fully aware that sentence had two meanings. One meaning in Berlin and one meaning in the rest of Germany. They were correct to do it this way. In Berlin, it meant I am one with the people of Berlin. JFK was disastified with the speech Sorensen had prepared. He personally wrote this speech in 15 minutes in a small office just off the Plaza. The meaning of "ein Berliner" was fullly discussed between him and his interpreter. The crowd understood.

  • Ich bin ein berliner . von kuchen . LOL

  • @kelscav22

I was a US soldier on special assignment for the Kennedy speech in Berlin. There were nothing but cheers that day. What was even scarier, was that there were even more East Berliners cheering for him from the other side of the wall that were literally drowning out the cheering from the West Berlin side. If he would have said "come over that wall" they would have come. It was amazing. I still get choked up when I remember those moments. It was one of America's finest hours.

  • @largsmith You were so lucky to be there. A great moment in history. He actually thought that very thing. For him it was a little scarey having a million people in front of him, literally in his hand. He told a friend that he thought if he had said to the people: "Go tear down that wall," they would have done it. He said to an aide: "As long as we live, we will never have a day like this."

  • @kelscav22 No. Just no. Fuck off.

  • Would Obama have the courage to make a speech like this? I doubt it. He doesn't even have enough backbone to prove his citizenship. If you've ever wondered why the democratic party isn't what it used to be, listen to Barack Obama, then listen to JFK. Enough said.

  • @jim53159 JFK would be a Republican if he were alive today! The Democrats would kick him out now for not being liberal enough.

  • @zinpgh

JFK would get kicked out of the Republican Party were he alive today.

The Democrats of 1963 were a much more liberal party- the party that created SS & Medicare (a Kennedy proposal)- programs the cons of today want to destroy. JFK was hated by conservatives when he was president. His tax cut took the top tax rate from 91% to 71%, but it resulted in the richest paying more in taxes because it closed many of the loopholes that allowed many of them to avoid paying their share.

  • @zinpgh Sorry JFK was not a white SUPREMACY , a member of the Klan or belong to a tea party like most Republicans today !!

  • Berliner in Argentina means : citizen of Berlin (Berlines in Spanish) and German cookies with marmalade or dulce de leche inside (Berlinesa )

He wanted to say I am a citizen of Berlin. Anybody can understand the speech.

  • He was not the leader of America, but of the free world. What a man! His vision and perspective is desperately needed in our current political arena!

  • Obama should have said a few words in German when he spoke in Berlin in 2008

  • no it doesn't.... i checked

  • People need to hear this speech so as to understand why we are in Iraq and Afghanistan... are you listening Obama?..i doubt it

  • exclusive caroline kennedy hates her father because he raped her many times.

Many rumours bout himNow they say Jacqueline Kennedy write diary. The Kennedy library public in 2044.Jacqueline write about marriage with Kennedy and She writes many negative things about him.I don´t know

  • @SunCelticSea wheres the proof?

  • A truly great speech. Sad we don't see such leadership

these days. Where have our great men gone?

  • JFK is a true inspiration, I love his speeches. (I'm sorrry about any spelling mistakes, I'm a terrible speller)

  • I am going to kill myself because I'm tired I love you than my life but I'm decided. tomorrow in Dallas I will die

President to his wife, on November21, 1963

  • I remember in 1964, there was a small exhibit sent around the U.S. of President Kennedy's things. As part of the exhibit there was a film shown of his Berlin visit. I believe this was the film shown. I remember the music. One million people turned out to hear JFK's speech (as opposed to the 20,000 who turned out for Reagan). I have read JFK told a friend that the reaction of the crowd was such that if he had pointed at the wall & told the people to tear it down, they would have.

  • Very moving.

Sadly 5 months later he was dead.

    So very sad.

  • In response to the person below comparing JFK with Reagan and thinking Reagan is a greater President. For your information, a 2008 poll of 65 historians using ten categories of Presidential Performance rated JFK to be the 6th greatest President of the United States. Reagan came in as number 10. But he might drop lower next time around, because his economic policies were one of the causes of the current crisis.

  • Its a tragedy that JFK didn`t have a chance. The deregulations that Reagan imposed did no good and so didn`t the Bay of Pigs. They both express freedom Reagan did it by cutting government and Kennedy did it with confidence. They both believed in a strong military.I never said that Reagan was greater but he had more time.

  • Re the Bay of Pigs. JFK told the Joint Chiefs he would not involve U.S. troops in invasion. They assured him it would work w/o U.S. troops. But they had all received memos from their staff researchers saying it wouldn't work w/o U.S. involvment. They never told JFK this. The minute the invasion failed, JFK remarkably figured out he had been lied to and that it was a set up to force an invasion. Several years ago CIA docs were declassified verifying all of this.

  • Further on Bay of Pigs. It is now known that the Russians found out about the invasion in advance & even knew the date of the invasion & passed it on to the Cubans - so the Cubans were waiting. It is also known that CIA officials knew that the Cubans knew. They never informed JFK of this. They were trying to force a major confrontation. Had JFK known about this and about the Pentagon memos he would have cancelled the invasion.

  • One last post on the Bay of PIgs. Some people may have interpreted JFK's response to the Bay of Pigs as weakness, but it was a mistake for them to do so. In my opinion he showed extraordinary courage in standing up to the Joint Chiefs. He did agree to send in a couple of planes to provide air cover so those stuck up in the hills around the Bay could get out & escape. But someone at the U.S. base in Panama screwed up, not realizing the time difference with Cuba & the planes arrived too late.

  • He did have his brother Bobby and it was a different time back then. The Soviets knew Reagan was right but they also had discovered the bomb not long before Kennedy became president. They underestimated Kennedy because of he was young.Kennedy had the sense to get advice from the likes of Eisenhower and Trumen where as ego wasn`t in the way.Believe me if Reagan was at that time I don`t think they would have tested him.Like i said Reagan was solid.

  • @openedup09 The contexts between the 60's and 80's are completely different. Reagan would've ended up at the same conclusion as did Kennedy. Reagan could only say "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" after all the suffering and wear and tear had been done to Communism at that point. It was bound to break by the late 80's, Reagan ensured that. However, the 60's were a time of Communism's great momentum.

  • Great speech. So actual.

  • Obama should take a trip to South Korea and do a speech like this.

  • Thats a joke.Obama would never do that..Strength and respect.Obama lacks both.

  • Regan was solid.Actually breaking down government and being able to communicate the way he did.Jfk inspired hope and confidence which is always needed .Reagan had eight years.JFK had two and half years Reagan was in my opinion a great president.Jfk could have been. They were both great American. You seem to love this country and i hope that you can comment back.

  • Yes they were. But even if JFK has served his full term, and gone on to his second, i don't think he would have achieved as much as Reagan had in the 80s. Although he certainly did intimidate a lot of Russians, i believe JFK's problem was he wasn't able to scare them enough. I don't mean that in a bad way, but his inexperience and weak appearance gave the Soviets the idea they could "walk all over him". (Dare I use the Cuban missile crisis as an example?)

  • Although i think some people got the wrong impression from my last comment. I never said this was a bad speech but its no argument which speech had a greater impact.

  • I love this speech! I am touched!

    ICH BIN EIN BERLINER!

This is speech not as now...

  • well said, ICH BIN EIN BERLINER!!!

    the best speech all times!

  • @SunCelticSea When I hear an American president to make such a speech in Gaza might convince me that the U.S. is the home of democratic freedoms. But I doubt that day will never come.

  • You will note from this footage in Berlin that the camera car was placed IN FRONT of the Presiden't limousine, so the could film him. In Dallas it was placed MANY CARS BEHIND the Presiden't limousine. That is WHY there is no clear professional footage, with sound of the JFK assassination.

  • YES!HE WAS A TRUE LEADER!

    I SALUTE YOU!

    God bless him.

  • The Germans show more enthusiasm for a president then Americans do....

  • He'd be proud of President Obama (probably not definitely) but would likely be disgusted with the polarized nature of both parties nowadays.

  • Kennedy would vomit at today's Democratic Party

  • i agree with you, also he would vomit at today´s Republican party not?
