  • sometimes they attack with a hand holding a sword in a such way that would make it very difficult to actually strike an opponent with appropriate amount of power if they had a real sword that are way more heavy than foamies :) Like sword being over a shoulder behind you and the palm of the hand twisted backwards, there is no way you can strike fast and with good power if you don't hold a sword little bit above and in front of yourself.

IMHO fencing and kendo are the real sword fighting sports

  • @octopimp The swords are not made of foam. They are made of rattan and weigh as much as real swords do. If you don't think we can't generate a lot of power then I invite you t o come out and try it yourself.

  • @octopimp You're an idiot :(

  • @Radiator95 thank you for your opinion, idiot sire :)

  • @octopimp wow... this made me laugh...

you truly have no idea what is going on here do you?

  • @octopimp sca hits way harder then kendo. fencing and kendo are considered light weapons fighting by the sca (which basicly means they are styles ineffective against armor)

  • that kings a beast lol *mysterious announcer* INCINERATED! :D

  • I could never fight with all that armour on! Is there a place in the SCA for light armour?

  • @aileanjeune

Armour can be very light, the only real metal you need to wear is the helmet, the rest can be made from a variety of plastics and leather and look authentic with some good camouflage. Go to events in your area and talk to fighters.

  • @aileanjeune there are other fighting forms which do require less armor or no armor at all such as rapier, some others might have experimental forms of fighting but as missmartina said, just go to a local group and chat it up.

  • A most excellent dodge a 0:40, M'lord!

  • WOW! It's nice to know that even after 28 years of 'playing the game' I can still find things that make me go. . . WOW! An amazing and well done fighting rig Your Grace. Well done.

  • Wow - duke Dirk is good.

  • Our "swords" end up weighing around the same as period broadswords. And yes, you could swing real swords that quickly.

Fencing and broadsword-based armored combat are not the same.

  • Truly, honestly when i first started i never thought that medieval swordfighting was that fast (only film i thought), but you get really surprised on how quick a fight goes.

  • No, actually, this would be someone getting schooled. Or more appropriately, PWNED.

  • WOW I think that is the first time I have ever seen Dirk fight, I have heard stories, but I am realitively new... however the guy he's fighting is the guy whose training me, The Honorable Lord Thorin O'Seaghda. It is wierd to see how his fighting style has improved and changed in ust the last 2 years...

  • Damn good fighter.

  • this sucks

  • THat helm actually almost looks like a roman attic helm

  • It is a Thracian helm, not an Attic helm, not a Corinthian, not even close to Mycenean.

  • Wow, what a bummer.

  • Why'd he get banned?

  • is this js just as exciting as the fights get?

it doesnt seem like there is much finesse involved or action for that matter, the fighting only lasts like 5 seconds

  • You might want to watch more than one video before you make up your mind.

Hell, go to a fighter practice and try it. you'll learn all about finesse and action.

  • Also he is wearing a corinthian helmet from the Greek classical age (not Mycenean Age) and a steel scale curiass (also not mycenean).

Hoplites wore a "linothorax", basically a linen tunic covering the chest. The only protection were greaves and the "hoplon" or shield. This guy is far from period, but SCA has rules so that he doesn't get hurt. I can hunderstand the need to stray a little.

He is wearing the bare necessities, nothing more.

  • this would be cool if it were real

  • What's not real about it?

  • Preeettyy helllmm.....

  • Duke Dirk is an excellent armorer, and I've seen his stuff and heard he's a very noble SCAdian. BUT, he's far from period. The Iliad is based on Mycenaean warfare, and to start all of it would be bronze, including his scales (which are steel). His outfit is Greek in spirit, but fantasy in essence.

  • 5 Sterne: Große Klasse, bitte mehr davon.

  • The guy you said look likes a Hoplite is Duke Dirk. His warband is the Myridons, based on the Iliad. They are from the Kingdom of Caid. His armor is metal scale which is period and not fantasy.

    -Thorfinn

  • Why this other guy has so strange outfit compared to otheers. Almost like some fantasy hoplite:P

  • What was that all about anyway? Is this someone getting trained here, or what?
