@ciancif se B. non avesse il potere politico di monopolizzare molti aspetti della vita economica ci sarebbero piu posti di lavoro. All'estero chi lo critica piu aspramente sono proprio quelli che hanno fatto e vinto la guerra fredda per difendere il liberismo economico (vedi economist). cmq hai ragione, il problema è che costui invece di governare fa i propri interessi, anche i piu ridicoli (nominare ministro chi se lo tromba) e fa pochissimo per il progresso del Paese.

@ciancif democracy implies the absolute respect of the law on the part of those in power FIRST! an elected criminal is NOT above the law in a democratic state (that's monarchy), most of berlusconi's trials date back to BEFORE he was elected. In more democratic countries, SUSPECTED politicians have the decency of resigning until the trial is over to avoid embarassment to their beloved democracy....why not in Italy?

(Are you Italian?..it might be annoying to someone who has grown up with different methods of politics.) One might consider him a clown...for example Berlusconi hid behind some columns once in a building, waiting for Angela Merkel to greet him. He popped out and surprised her. You have to consider that Hitler had already invaded Austria, so we had him right at the borders. The Italian army couldn't even compete with half of the German army.
Plus, the insane ambitions of Mussolini which tempted the population with absurd dreams of conquer, and maybe saw Hitler as a powerful allied... Remember that Mussolini took the power with violence, not vote.
So I'd rather say it was a fatal mistake more than a failure, and Italy paid dearly for that.

Let me remind you history of Poland from IIWW: it hadn't got any promised help from France or England, I can say they left us for dead, but we haven't surrendered and fought to the end. We paid for that (another betray on Yalta conference - 1945, and being slaves of USSR till 1989). You can't tell that Italy wasn't German allies during the "first part" of war - no matter why.
