I love the opening scenes of NYC at the beginning of the theme. To this day, when I see steam coming out of a storm drain, I am reminded of this show's open.
Night Court was part of the original Thursday night line up that began with The Cosby Show, Family Ties, Cheers, Night Court and Hill Street Blues. From 1985-1988, this was the line up that made NBC famous. Neither "Friends" nor "Seinfield" can hold a candle to any of these truly funny sitcoms.
FAMILY TIES was eliminated from that line-up and moved to Sundays when A DIFFERENT WORLD premiered in September 1987. Bill Cosby insisted on ADW airing immediately after its parent series THE COSBY SHOW. HILL STREET BLUES was cancelled after the 1986-87 season also.
You know Dan is smoking a pipe in this intro but I don't recall him ever smoking during the show.LOL of course it's been a looooooong time since I watched this show as a child of the 80's so I might not just remember!
@BlackDahliaMurderFan I really don't know about Karen Austin, but as for Ellen Foley, I believe she was simply a temporary substitute for Markie Post (Markie appeared in an early season 2 episode as a guest star before becoming a regular at the start of season 2; she was a regular on "The Full Guy" at that time of her guest appearance).
The guy next to Flo Halop at the very start - what was his name?
He had a great bit part in a Car 54 episode, as the hairdresser, filmed in the 1960s, and I'm trying to remember who he was (only the regulars were in the credits).
And once both Flo and Selma died, Bernie (who was the old guy sometimes seen around the cafeteria lobby chasing around Selma and Flo) stopped appearing....lol!
guess old people die in packs? LOL. Jk...love the show which there were more episodes available to watch/buy. I don't have cable so I can't watch it on tvland.
TV Land rarely shows it anymore anyway and the dvd release was only the 1st season so far. Sigh. What a great show and it's gotten the crap treatment from TV Land and DVD releasing. But every episode of grbage crap "friends" is available.Something so wrong going on there.
@zzzombie888: And two years later they still don't have the entire season up. I think they're up to like season three by now. We need more night court!
shit i cn go back to all in the family where it first begin

Markie Post was hot. She also had great looking hair.

I can tell what Flo is saying at 0:34- "There's a guy from Neptune in holding."

Who cared about her hair back then? It was the 80s and we all had fucked up hair.

@jpowers55 Not all of us. I was just a baby and hardly had any hair yet.

Seeing John Larroquette with a smoking pipe is a rarity, but cool.

They need a True Hollywood Story for this show.

I agree. Sitcoms back in the 80s and early 90s was something people would look forward to watch. Nowadays, the stuff you see and bullshit!
