  • What a BEAUTIFUL song! Wow! I've only heard of THE CAKE about a year ago, and I've been truly amazed, at finding - for me - a diamond! I first heard YOU CAN HAVE HIM (and I was looking for Dionne Warwick's version). Stunning.

  • Jeanette Jacobs-Wood never had a daughter!

  • They hated doing this song!

  • classic

  • @Darbukman Sure is.

  • Why does this remind me so much of Animal Collective?

  • Jeanette wuz never hit in the head by Ginger Baker's Drum-Anything!! You crazy people!!

  • @pembridgegardens What makes you say so? Liar.

  • P.T. 280 wuz a jab at The Who !!

  • How can there possibly not be a video of them singing this song?!?

  • @Khultan Both EL and Barbara disliked this song, a "Wallflower Girl" fantasy tune. As their recording career

was ten months, the re-issue CD of their two LPs has detailed notes. However, since over four decades have

passed, the memories of sources contradict some info. Jeanette had no siezures until 1970, when hit by a

drum stand, on tour with Ginger Baker's Airforce. You end up with new questions by reading about The Cake.

  • @movingon4ever Yes, you are right, Movingon4ever, I have read through that very same cd album of theirs (which I bought almost immediately after learning about this group on Youtube). I have been trying to look for more information on them and on retro 60s magazines, such as Shindig, to catch interviews and photos of them. So far, no luck. You? Where did you get your information and particularly on Jeanette?!?

  • @Khultan I have a link, but it will not allow me to post it

  • @Swampwitch99 A link to? I'm all everywhere in Youtube.

  • @Khultan an article on The Cake

  • @Swampwitch99 You have my attention now. I need that one!!! : )

  • @Khultan You may have seen it, I do not know. I can not post it here, it will not allow it. I tried to message it directly to your inbox on youtube, but you have messages from non-friends blocked :-(

Friend me for a minute and I will send it that way, k?

  • @Swampwitch99 No, I've only read the cd liner notes. I've never read any article. I check out Ugly Things magazine, which covers the 1960s rock n roll era, and, so far, nothing about The Cake. Okay, I'll add you to my friend roster now. Thanks for the tip, though. : )

  • @movingon4ever The materials that, they themselves, wrote are very remarkable and hip, Annabelle Clark, pt280 (a jab at the Rolling Stones, for example.

  • @movingon4ever There's very little information and few pictures of Jeanette.

  • @Khultan I listen to the doubled CD while driving, they got hosed having to cover those tired, trite, old swamp rock numbers. Medleys? More like royalties for pals, relatives of the recording crew. These girls try clever vocal arrangements to give life to dredged up 'songs'; where are "Alley-Oop", & "Green Giant"(more early 60's dogs)? Success on "Stand by Me", at 1:35, Barb & EL deserve praise for their efforts. EL's lead on Annabelle Clark(Clock lol) is great. Yes, JJ hit in 1970...seizures.

  • @movingon4ever I agree with you. Would you happen to have the lyrices for AB and Pt280, by the way?

  • @Khultan Sorry, I searched out the Trio a few months back, did not look for lyrics. Pics of JJ & EL on tour shots with Ginger Baker's AirForce. Non Blonde EL, svelte Bod on JJ, all aged History now. JJ's daughter must be 32. Same era, 1967, two Girls, 'Two of Clubs', song "Walk Tall", a YT video of more recent performance:sad. Couple of Grandmothers singing about BOYS. Bless them.

  • @movingon4ever JJ's daughter a singer, also? Two Of Clubs recent performance=sad? Why this view? I try to learn as much as I can from my elder relatives before they pass away. Anyway, that's your business and I thank you for your helpful information.

  • @Khultan No clue on what JJ's daughter direction. RE:Two of Clubs. This catchy dance/Romance song,

from Peter Fonda/Sandra Dee film, "Doctor, You've got to be Kidding" needs that eager Gurrrrl appeal, and energy created in 1967. Now they appear somewhat embarassed by the lyrics-offering their virtue. However,

the Toys put the same 'bounty' up, in "Lover's Concerto", about 18 months earlier, in a more polished style, and sold into a gold record. It is a flawless romantic gem.

  • @movingon4ever Your name says it all. Perfect name.

  • Their other songs are stand outs as well, including 'Annabelle Clark'. I just discovered this late 60s girl group only very recently.

  • Another of a few brilliant co-writes by Jackie and Jack Nitzche.

  • This is such a brilliant record - The Cake were a class act.
