If it was a fake tv fireplace, I would find it cheesy, too. But it's a real fireplace, and during the winter, we run the fire almost all day every day. It's peaceful.
So, are your models on the HD400 when you go through the DT50 using a cab sim? or is that just amp models and no cab sims here? Just curious as to what the set up is like.
Very nice demo here, thank you. So that is a Hwy 1 Strat that you thru in a Taylor Humbucker in the bridge? Any other mods?
Can you can say that this gets you real tube amp feel "pushing air" etc. when you are playing in a live band situation?
It certainly sounds great here in this demo. I have used alot of Line 6 over the years but have never liked it in a live band setting. Hoping this is the answer.
Or could I just run the HD500 into my Shiva to achieve the same thing?
I heard that you can only disable the cab sim';s on the HD500's and not on the 300/400's? how does it work with this link connection from line 6? does it disable the cab sims?
FINALLY .... a nice tone on a DT50 demo. I'm sure they're out there, but so far i've just heard alot of TALK from Line 6, and a few flat, 1-dimensional buzzy 'bucker tones.
NIce playing. I tried a DT50 the other day in the store . .some nice tones . .gotta crank it to get the good stuff . .low volume modeling is a bit sterile. My big worry about this $1500 beast is the relays crack, pop and punch the speakers when you change topology . . . not what I would want to hear in the middle of a song. I was using a pod300 to demo it and sounded like a 21 gun salute spinning thru the model selector. For an expensive and HEAVY amp I don't think I could trust it to last.
I'm not terribly worried about the reliability. Nothing lasts forever anymore (which is a bitter pill to swallow, for sure). I feel like the amps are built tough. I've gigged mine heavily over the last few months and haven't had any troubles at all.
You're right about the volume, though. At quiet levels, it's good for rehearsing or practicing at home. Still sounds squishy and cool. BUT, once you can get the master above noon, that's where the glory lives!! :)
man hahaha, more than showing the tones of the amp you showed us some MAD skills bro. Awesome bro, just awesome speed bluesy kinda feeling. That's my next amp in line. I currently have the SpiderValve, which is absolutely great. But I think I'm going for the Dt50 later this year. Awesome playing bro.
Hey dognmoon fantastic playing. I've played the dt50 and love the tones but I also want effects and I'm not sure if I want to get a HD pedal or go with the M13. I'm not into deep editing, I know you use both so I'm curious what you would recommend. Thanks.
I think both are cool. The DT50 sounds great on it's own but it really comes alive with the HD in front, too. I hear you about deep editing. In a perfect world, you'd grab the HD300 just for the front end amp models and then get an M9 just for the loop of the DT50 for cool delays, modulations, and effects.
is there any point with that 2x12, I can see there is both a vintage 30 and another type of speaker, different color of tones where you positon the mic?
yeah, guys will often get a 2x12 because the two speakers can interact with each other creatively, especially if one has a mid hump and the other has a scooped mid. They work well together. BUT, you're right, depending on how it's mic'd you could be getting just the one speaker without the compliment of the other. That can be good or bad.
I play live all the time. I haven't used anything but this Line6 rig for the last couple of months. It sounds great in the mix and I'm not having some of the same troubles that I've had in the past with Flextone, Vetta and AxSys.
im getting and hd 500 soon.. and im thinking of replacing my line6 spidervalve with an egnater renegade or line6 dt-50.. which one would you recommend.. just as a stand alone amplifier..
Both of those are amazing amps. If you require more channel switching, the Renegade is the way to go. But I have played nothing but the DT50 for a couple of months now and my Egnaters are all getting lonely in storage. hahah
@dognmoon Your playing is insane. What would you call the genre you play? Can't really place it, it's blues, but not really blues. Insane playing man.
Of course I'd be glad to share my settings. I'm getting an HD500 soon so I'll set them up for that as well since the setting architecture is a little different from the 400.
Dognmoon....do you find the HD400 tones through the amp sound as good as the DT-50 alone? I was afraid the amp tones would be so much better. I would not get use of the HD400 or 500. Can one also use the HD300 with it? I would also want to be able to change amp channels from the POD HD, essentially using the amp's tone with the HD's effects and also be able to get the gain from the HD....but both scenarios would have to sound great! I am afraid it would have to live up to my Shiva.
Well a Shiva is a pretty amazing amplifier. It's gonna be hard for any amp to beat it. But the DT50 alone sounds great and you can use the 300, 400 or 500 with it. You can just use the POD for front end effects but you could also skip the POD and buy an M13. That way you can run some effects to the front, some to the loop, and then switch channels either with another A/B switch or with MIDI changes from the M13.
@richedie from what line 6 says. the amp models in the dt50 are no different than the ones in the pod, you just get more amp models when you use the pod. so the pod replaces the amp modeling in the amp and goes right into the rest of the amp. as for how it all works or sounds, i have no idea. havent had the chance to try it yet.
There's a jack called "L6 Link" on the back of the POD as well as the back of the DT50. It transfers all of the sound and switching information. That cable bypasses the amp's front end.
I'm not sure it sounds better. It's just more versatile with the variable tube power amp output section. They call it "Adaptive Modeling Technology" but it basically means you can change the personality of the tube power amp. You could get a great sound running the HD into the FX loop return of any tube amp and it would probably sound pretty great.
@dognmoon you don't owe me money, if you willing to give some il take it though :) i was just wondering as i seen you on the taylor videos...awesome playing as always btw
If you're a tube amp guy, the DT50 is worth every penny. I gigged it last week with my normal pedalboard and used the DT50 as a standard 2-channel amp. It is an amazing amplifier. The POD is here with modeled preamp tones in the video and that's where all the gain comes from. I've gigged that rig as well and it sounds just as natural and organic as an all-tube rig with pedals. I really love the POD and DT50 together. BUT, The Tweaker 40 is also worth waiting for, though. Choices!!
No, because in the 400, has a little more limited versatility in effects. The 500 allows you to put whichever effects in whichever order, but for now I have the 400 (I'm getting the 500 next month) and I'm still using the M13 in the effects loop of the DT50 for delays, modulation, swish, and swirl.
@dognmoon Hey man, why did you get the 400 in the first place? For me it's 300 for minimum size, 500 for maximum capability, 400 nothing of either, maybe pricewise interesting.
Excuse me for this question, because you are already buying a 500, but i'm just curious; what's the attractiveness of the 400?
I got the 400 because the 500 is currently backordered through Line 6. I need the POD HD for a session next week and the 500 wouldn't be available in time.
For this video, I'm using the preamp simulations from the POD and the tube poweramp from the DT50. You can turn off the preamp modeling and just use the POD for effects if you want.
I was in the middle of that riff, wondering if I actually KNEW the riff, haha. I really love that song. I'm doing a session next week at the studio where Fair Warning was recorded and I'm psyched!
@dognmoon You're doing a session where Fair Warning was recorded? Lucky Dog(nmoon)! :) You gotta soak up all the nasty, gritty tone that Ed got in that room! I wish you many awesome riffs! Happy New Year and keep the videos coming. I always enjoy your playing.
Great playing Brother. So, how do you think the effects and amp models sound compared to having the same pedals and amp heads right in front of you? I have a Digitech RP-255 and just use it for playing at night so I don't wake up myy Wife. I can tell the effects are Digital on that unit but it is fun to play through simulated amps I could never afford. :-) Lets hear more of different Amps and effects.
I think this POD sounds better than any other POD I've owned (and I've owned almost every Line 6 product in the history of the company). It's more real, more organic, and the "feel" is there. As always... Nice playing Mr Moon.
This amp sounds great. Ive been watching demos on it. Wow... Talk about versatile, huh?
As someone else mentioned in the comments, my big concern would be channel switching. I hate the clicks and pops.
2nd concern would be if it broke down. Who has enough knowledge to fix something like this?
Concerns aside, this is probably the most innovative amp ever built.
Kudos to Line 6 for paying attention. (insert thumbs up here)
Thanks for posting.
