You forgot the state of Michigan opened up the flood gates on the lake at FULL SPEED!!! When there was ABSOLUTELY no reason to do so. As a matter fo fact the gates have never been opened.

I live halfway between Des Moines Ia. and St. Louis Mo. 1993 flood was much worse than 1973's flood. Was in west quincy mo 10-15 minutes before the levee broke and the levee break at the sny island levee district happened about 300 yards south of my uncles farmhouse. Lot of work before the flood moving equipment to higher ground but we saved it. Don't wish to deal with it again!
