I love this stripped back set up. I saw them in 08 at the height of their "excess" (in terms of people on stage.) This five piece Mars Volta lets the songs breathe and I think they benefit from it.
Is it me or is Cedric's falsetto range alot bigger than his regular voice range. I have noticed he kinda struggles live, but when he goes in falsetto he fuckin wails his ass off. (excuse me if that sounded retarded, im not very knowledgeable in singing theory)
yeah I'm not too sure cos when he has to 'wail' in his modal register sometimes he struggles, but I imagine going that loud and high is really hard for anyone. and yeah he has an amazing falsetto. Bedlam in Goliath, bah he is just a show off
The ONLY complaint i have is that the guitar always sounds soooo thin and weak while the bass is raw and crunchy and the drumming is off the charts. I think Cedric has got ALOT stronger vocally live.
@Brizel023 Normally with Omar, I'd feel kinda jipped by what you said. However, the solos sound amazing, and the rest of the song is basically a rhythm section orgasm anyway.
And plus, I don't mind as much when it's Juan Alderete and Thomas Pridgen (though, I prefer Theodore's drumming on this track. Pridgen's style is just a little too...flashy for this song. I love him, though).
@Carnane You're right. I was just thinking of the live versions with Blake Fleming. (Which are also awesome) They just have great drummers. No one can argue that.
Wait! I've seen the ark shake from your pneumonic tongue But the braile that you weave of itself it shall read aloud Yes it will I said, she's falling, she's still falling But no one wants to come She's crawling, she's still crawling On your burial ground Said, she's falling, she's still falling But no one wants to come I said, she's crawling, she's still crawling On your burial
It seems like TMV is hit or miss live. Ive only been to one live show which sounded okay, but i've heard horror stories seeing them live (from fans). I think most of the blame goes to the sound engineers running the live mixes. TMV have so many instruments that if you don't know what you are doing with the mix, it will sound like a wall of noise (ala slipknot live). Their cd's always sound the best.
@mtnlogistics Interesting comment. Funny that you mention Slipknot too, because they also end up with sound engineers that dont know what they are doing :P
This is the Led Zeppelin of our time. These guys are the new wave of music. They are a huge band but still i dont consider them mainstream rock. They arent stupid rock or pop either thats just over produced and fake for the masses. But anyway i still cant figure out why the hell they got rid of Pridgeon he is just nasty as all hell dude! I wonder if the new drummer is as skilled as he is with timing.
I think they got rid of Pridgeon because he just takes up too much space.. He's an amazing drummer, but he's very extreme in his playing, which fits a record like "Bedlam" great. But i think Omar is going for a more stripped down sound now
That's not why, from what I've read and asked Pridgen himself, Cedric and him got in a dispute about money. Cedric is loud and is the frontman and has more sway then the drummer so after a heated argument Pridgen was fired by Cedric after he said some very hurtful things. Pridgen told me he's still on good terms with Omar and everyone else it's just Cedric that he doesn't like.
Im sorry BUT OMAR PLAYS Circles around Sebastian fucking bach. Techically and creatively. You have to get into guys like John McLaughlin to get to ppl who are as technical and innovative as omar. The technical part isnt what impresses me with musicians , its the creativity and innovation and the balls to Explore the sound...
Cedric is definatley one of the strongest rock vocalists I've ever heard. Clearly a guy who knows how to use his voice, and Omar is definatley one my new favourite guitarists, fantastic feel and sound. All fucking brilliant musicians
@JxLamdin090 I would say definately at the moment. But Ive heard much stronger and more technically proficient. Sebastion Bach, Bruce Dickinson etc etc
@JxLamdin090 Ikey, Marcel, and Juan feel out the rest of the bands sound amazingly, they're a one guitar band but they sound so full and powerful. I miss Pridgen though, I'm not a fan of their most recent drummer, at least live. Pridgen was their best live drummer so far, this new guy is meh. Maybe his studio work will be better.
@BasketClash I definatley agree, like I said they're all fantastic musicians, Juan is one of my biggest influences on bass. But I do quite like their latest drummer, Pridgen was amazing no doubt, but I did feel at times his performance took away from some the other members, like Marcel and Ikey. Still great though, but yeah after watching the like vid of Dave Elitch playing Goliath, I was certainly reasurred; he still has some big shoes to fill given their previous drummers though :)
@JxLamdin090 I'm actually a bass player too and have been a huge fan of Juan for the longest time. I do wonder if Dave Elitch will prove better after they put out a new album. I will say some songs like cotopaxi I just don't think he grabs the groove like Pridgen did.
@IbanezEDB400Player I've spent some time listening to Dream Theater, great band, I have a lot of respect for what they do, but as much as I like my prog rock I just can't get into them. Maybe I'll give them another chance though!

@wearesuarez just ok? i mean sure theodore is the man for creating all those amazing drum parts, but come on. you have to give TP more credit than just ok!
i guezz maybe i'm juzt comparing him to john.....he'z ok compared to him but on hiz own yez he iz really damn good......it'z uzually too much stuff that he doez and it'z boring but he'z good though
I hate banter about what music is better than other. Dudes, chill. All music has it's place. Music is meant to be enjoyed , not criticized to hell. No band is better than any other...Well, except that Jonas Bros garbage....i think that musics place is in the dumpster....
@the13thmintcar thank you its just music like it or hate it it's nothing to get angry over they are a truly amazing band instrumentaly and their lyrics are poetic =]
Music isn't necessarily just "sound". It is whatever gives you the goosebumps.. Some people can transcend on very remedial "sounds", so there's got to be more to it than just that.
In my humble opinion, these guys are more creative than Hendrix and Zeppelin put together. Most of Jimi's work is just rehashed old blues progressions. Nothing TMV is doing has ever been done before. Move over Zeppelin. TMV is the greatest band of all time.
music is sound, Hendrix just had a better sound! Yes, Jimi's work is just rehashed old blues progressions, but I call that doing more with less, then again it's just an opinion.
TMV aint bad but it would have never existed without Zeppelin or Hendrix, and that aint just an opinion.
They have great composing skills but they did not invent a style, let alone change a generation.
Zeppelin wasn't fully respected or understood in their generation. Just as TMV isn't now with you saying they haven't invented a style. Dude, you can't even describe what they do. What is it?? I do love and respect the classics but I also revere those who have come since that have taken their ideas to a whole new level. Its like saying Isaac Newton was a better scientist than Albert Einstein. Just an opinion, but I think they've delved a little further..
Zeppelin has 4 albums in the top ten most sold albums of they're era. That gives us an idea of the respect their generation had for them.
TMV could be described as a rock band. To me the last bands to have changed rock is Radiohead with OK Computer and, more recently, TV On The Radio with Dear Science.
When Albert Einstein came up with relativity it would have bin quite stupid to say "Eat your heart out Newton", or "Move over Da Vinci".
Not to take anything away from L.Z. but they only have 2 albums in the top 40. Most of those sales were from my generation as I too bought them all on cassette and cd.
Radiohead blows. They didn't change shit for me but I guess its just a matter of perspective. Keep on rockin your predictable trite radio fodder and I'll stick with the truly innovative stuff. Rock on Creep. What the hell are you doin here? You don't belong here! ha
truly innovative... please explain yourself. My guess is you don't know jack-fuck-all about music but you're overconfident ass is trying to explain how you could end up saying shit about Hendrix or Zeppelin.
i was happy to find a new band when i listened to this video but your comment made me unappreciative, that's all. Now i see you post Hendrix and L.Z. is "predictable trite radio fodder" and i realize i don't belong here after all.
please refrain yourself from any expression, for it is sad.
You're just like cross-town traffic, so hard to get through to you. Dododododododoo. Ha. Truly innovative as in TMV. I would never talk shit about Hendrix and Zeppelin. They WERE the best. I was saying that radiohead is radio b.s., But to each his own. Rock on. TMV rules!
what I meant was -explain what did they innovate, the song in this clip basically has 1 chord, the guitar sounds like a guitar, the bass is not doing anything new, drums... i've hear that beat before and the signer... well he sings. The one thing that makes this band amazing is they're musicianship and they're charisma. They have innovated nothing. Then again, I don't see how you could understand music, your a singer!
As per Radiohead, TMV themselves would say they are influenced by them.
To counter your critiques, I would say that with TMV, the guitar usually doesn't sound like"guitar"(a Hendrix-like quality), the drumlines are ambitious and inspired(a Zeppelin-like trait), and the vocals are some of the strongest soprano tracks ever recorded. But I guess we could argue til we're blue in the face, sorry me thinking TMV is so great bothers you. You're right, They're mediocre at best and Radiohead changed music. As you were.
Still haven't told me whats the innovation. But as you say, we could argue till the end of time, there is no truth when it comes to art, only questions.
la cagaste. por que no dejas los gringos tranquilos y vive en armonía? Thomas y Ikey son norteamericanos tambien, estas diciendo que ellos tampoco tienen talento -_-

@the13thmintcar I disagree. There are definitely bands that rise among the rest. Like Dream Theater or Rush or Muse.

Music isn't necessarily just "sound". It is whatever gives you the goosebumps.. Some people can transcend on very remedial "sounds", so there's got to be more to it than just that.

Unbelievable solo! Eat your heart out Jimi Hendrix! Long Live TMV!!!
bessrock 2 years ago
great sound, but Hendrix is still miles away.
mathivi 2 years ago
In my humble opinion, these guys are more creative than Hendrix and Zeppelin put together. Most of Jimi's work is just rehashed old blues progressions. Nothing TMV is doing has ever been done before. Move over Zeppelin. TMV is the greatest band of all time.
bessrock 2 years ago
music is sound, Hendrix just had a better sound!
WTF man, respect where you come from.
mathivi 2 years ago
Zeppelin wasn't fully respected or understood in their generation. Just as TMV isn't now with you saying they haven't invented a style. Dude, you can't even describe what they do. What is it?? I do love and respect the classics but I also revere those who have come since that have taken their ideas to a whole new level. Its like saying Isaac Newton was a better scientist than Albert Einstein. Just an opinion, but I think they've delved a little further..
bessrock 2 years ago 3
Zeppelin has 4 albums in the top ten most sold albums of they're era. That gives us an idea of the respect their generation had for them.
TMV could be described as a rock band. To me the last bands to have changed rock is Radiohead with OK Computer and, more recently, TV On The Radio with Dear Science.
When Albert Einstein came up with relativity it would have bin quite stupid to say "Eat your heart out Newton", or "Move over Da Vinci".
Just wanted to point that out : )

Not to take anything away from L.Z. but they only have 2 albums in the top 40. Most of those sales were from my generation as I too bought them all on cassette and cd.
Radiohead blows. They didn't change shit for me but I guess its just a matter of perspective. Keep on rockin your predictable trite radio fodder and I'll stick with the truly innovative stuff. Rock on Creep. What the hell are you doin here? You don't belong here! ha
bessrock 2 years ago
truly innovative... please explain yourself. My guess is you don't know jack-fuck-all about music but you're overconfident ass is trying to explain how you could end up saying shit about Hendrix or Zeppelin.
i was happy to find a new band when i listened to this video but your comment made me unappreciative, that's all. Now i see you post Hendrix and L.Z. is "predictable trite radio fodder" and i realize i don't belong here after all.
please refrain yourself from any expression, for it is sad.
mathivi 2 years ago
You're just like cross-town traffic, so hard to get through to you. Dododododododoo. Ha. Truly innovative as in TMV. I would never talk shit about Hendrix and Zeppelin. They WERE the best. I was saying that radiohead is radio b.s., But to each his own. Rock on. TMV rules!
bessrock 2 years ago
what I meant was -explain what did they innovate, the song in this clip basically has 1 chord, the guitar sounds like a guitar, the bass is not doing anything new, drums... i've hear that beat before and the signer... well he sings. The one thing that makes this band amazing is they're musicianship and they're charisma. They have innovated nothing. Then again, I don't see how you could understand music, your a singer!
As per Radiohead, TMV themselves would say they are influenced by them.
mathivi 2 years ago
To counter your critiques, I would say that with TMV, the guitar usually doesn't sound like"guitar"(a Hendrix-like quality), the drumlines are ambitious and inspired(a Zeppelin-like trait), and the vocals are some of the strongest soprano tracks ever recorded. But I guess we could argue til we're blue in the face, sorry me thinking TMV is so great bothers you. You're right, They're mediocre at best and Radiohead changed music. As you were.
bessrock 2 years ago
Still haven't told me whats the innovation. But as you say, we could argue till the end of time, there is no truth when it comes to art, only questions.
