if u can aford a Sony go for the mac, i had a sony vaio for 1 year and bought my first mac about 9 months ago and i love it, i never used a mac before and it was really easy to use, love it for editing movies, school presentations , everything, its worked perfectly since the first day, cant say the same for the sony witch i had to format 2 times. maybe you should go for the 15" cheaper, same power and less weight.
A Macintosh is amazing! The reason they are more expersive is because they are flat out one of the most technologically advanced computers in the world, while PC just rolls 'em off the assembly line, which gives them their cheapness. the reason macs don't need antivirus is simply because nobody really writes them for mac. (there are some) Macs are good for creative people who like to edit media, don't have a dead-end job, and a Bit more money. PC's are good for Nerds in cubicles, no offence.
if you want a user friendly, stable, fast, video/graphic speciality & not having to worry about malware then go with mac, if you just want a laptop that for using the internet, playing music, gaming, emailing, and file storage then go with Windows, personally i prefer Mac but their so expensive the 17" Macbook pro is €2,500 it was worth it don't get me wrong but its quite a lot, if you're gonna stick with windows make sure get a decent laptop & not the likes of Dell or Acer
You should get a PC, its inexpensive, you can get free antivirus, you can download iMovie. you can even play games if you want to. By te way...macs do get virused too. Buy a Pc, its the right choice. If you get a Pc you will still be cool and you can Personalize it! Good luck!

Photoshop CS4 looks the same on both platforms. All of MAC iSoftwares suck and not compare to pro stuffs. For example, iphoto & iweb cannot be compared to Photoshop & Dreamweaver CS4, and that's available for windows too.
Playing games 4xAA & 16xAF @ ultra high is eye candy. Mac current GPUs cannot handle games like Windows...GTX 295 & ATI 4870 x2

the only downside is the compatibility issues with windows,, y'kno the lack of standardization. For me right now, MSN won't work and when I try to upload anything on Safari, it shuts down!!! SO annoying, but it works with Firefox

I have had so many problems with PCs in the past. Its like I was constantly tweaking them and trying to get around Windows annoyances. My Mac just works and it works beautifully. I have VMware to run Windows and that works well too.
MAC definitely. I used PCs in the past but started with MAC 6 years ago. There is absolutely no going back. The applications are awesome and now you can run windows os on MAC. MAC is user friendly and perfect for creating your videos and keeping things organized. My first MAC was only out of the box 5 minutes before I fell in love. I would not encourage anyone to buy a PC. Once you get over the differences it is a great experience you'll be able to do EVERYTHING with a MAC and much more.
I'm just going to keep it simple because I can go on and on about macs. You should definitely get a mac. Macs have a lot of cool features and applications like some you've already mentioned. In addition you can run windows operating system on a mac. On that note it's like having 2 computers in one. I've had mine for 2 years now and I love it. I just bought my Macbook Wht today, and it's wonderful. Not only that, but it's only 999.99 plus tax at Best Buy and it comes with everything, Itunes, Iphoto, Iweb, Imovie, Garage band. I just did a video using my mac it took 10 mins to edit it and it has youtube service built right in so I uploaded my video directly from Iweb.
When you use Imovie after your done just go to share and it will have the options up there. Just click the Youtube one and put in ya username and password.

I have a 7years old iBook and a 3 years old Mac Mini, both with OS X and Linux; quite happy with it.
I next to refuse to use a Mac OS, but I occasionally use Window, but ever since vista came out I want to Ubuntu, Best bet if you want the best performance and use interface with out chances of viruses, not to mention free programs galore go for a Ubuntu machine, Linux is love, Youtube Ubuntu 8.10 and Compiz Fusion. Both windows and mac OS wish they where this good!
Another thing to look into, Apples are designed for the " style " not so much the power, People who try and be sophisticated go out for starbucks, the people who make things run are usually the people sitting at home brewed computers on linux, Youtube is Linux based BTW and so are most servers. A PC computer has about 4X more hardware for the price, and if you still want the style windows cannot give just load in Ubuntu or Sabayon linux, never worry about instability or viruses again.
Gentoo on my DL580 server. Kubuntu on my laptop and Gentoo on my gaming rig....Gentoo's kind been f'ing the dog, so I'll probably switch to Kubuntu on my gaming rig, and rebuild from source.
a KDE fan? you might want to check out Sabayon linux. I like the Gnome desktop much more, though the logo for Kubuntu is way better, they also launch Zubuntu which is built off ubuntu 8.04 I think, Hardy Heron. It featured the release name Hasty Hippogriff.

Mac is a good product, Apples Customers Service is amazing. I have never used a Mac Laptop. My last laptop I bought I wiped vista off and installed a Linux operating system. The Mac OS is a better operating system then Vista. I have been testing out Windows 7 Beta which is a vast improvement on Vista. The only reason I have never got a mac is that I find the product to be too trendy/hipsterish and thats not me. I would suggest the Mac because of all the problems I have had with Vista.
You should definitely get a macbook! I'm an ex PC user and ever since I switched to Mac I've never touched a PC. The overall look of a macbook is sleeker, easier to operate, and more attractive. PCs tend to look bulky, and there are a lot of wires to connect. Macs are definitely lighter, if you choose to get the macbook air (I'm using mine right now) you won't be sorry! They're super light, and the battery lasts a long time for a laptop so small. PCs crash, freeze, and die after a few years.
I think you should save up and get a Mac. The MacBook Pro 17" has a battery that can last an incredibly long time. It'll last up to 8 hours on a single charge if you tune down some of the settings. You can recharge it up to 1,000 times before it must be replaced. It also has an ultra-cool multi-touch trackpad. You can also install Windows using a pre-installed application called Boot Camp, if you need it. I don't have a Mac (at least not a new one), but I am going to get one soon.
Mac Apple sellers, are just screwing you up, with the good things. Yes maybe it has a little bit of better programs than PC, but Mac Apple will get broken before than PC, and you can install the updates to the PC, so it'll get better. Mac goes so slow at it's time. : ) So I recommend PC.

2) Macs get updates as well. No operating system available and supported today will not get any updates. (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, BSD, etc.)
3) Both PCs and Macs go slow over time if you don't really know how to take good care of them. And, if they go slow, you can just restore the operating system from those discs that your PC manufacturer, if they gave you one. Macs come these disc.
i would say look into a lenovo thinkpad w700. with the same specs, it is within $100 of the 17" macbook pro. also, lenovo builds better quality products than apple. so, if you're going to be paying more for quality, a thinkpad is the better choice.
It's all about what you need. PCs are the best if you're a gamer, but if you are a creator Mac may be the best choice. Macs can get viruses too, it's just that most viruses are geared to PC users. If you use a PC, PROTECT IT.

That's because the creator's of viruses don't tend to focus on Macs because they're not as big a target as PC, not because they're incapable. You just have to be smart. I have a PC and have never had any problems with viruses. Proper protection is a must. There was actually a virus that hit Macs recently that took out a lot of computers, mainly because many Mac users are convinced that Macs can't get viruses so they didn't bother with an anti-virus. As far as I can see, linux is the best OS out.

More beautiful graphics and picture quality then Mac Con:Vista on it sucks Choose XP2 or later. Mac Pro: Fast/Powerful Con:Cannot be upgraded with parts. So if you need a much more powerful Mac in the future, you need to buy another one that's better. P.S. Both computers can fight off viruses, it depends on the software that's protecting your computer.
Never buy a HP laptop they have too many bugs to warn you. Macs are ok, but since you don't look the type to upgrade a computer and just want something on the go. Choose a Mac. I have a mac. Honestly their customer service sucks. I bought my Mac Feb of 08. I went to them this weekend because it was acting a little slow wanted to see what it was. They told me that my warranty was up and to see what the problem was I would have to pay 200 just for them to send it in and look at it. WTB!!!! Oh and the batteries on the Mac die so fast. You get on complimentry replacement. Then after that you pay 100 for a new one. I would just save the money and get a PC.
I've been using pc's for nearly 17 years, started with MS DOS, and used pretty much every Windows OS that came out. And after 17 years, and after testing a Macbook Pro, I was blown away by it, I'm going to make the switch to. I don't to use Windows anymore, I'm just tired of it. Mac OSX is a faster and just does more. As for viruses...all OS are imune to them, but since Macs are a much smaller nail, they get pounded less, so that's why you ALMOST don't get anything...
Go for the Mac. The fact that you are getting sick of your Sony means that you are as disgusted with Windows software as much as everybody else.

Tell you what, performance between PC and MAC depends on what you are doing. There are a lot of things in which Macs outperform Pc's, trust me, I've seen it.
Plus AVG free edition...that's a good AV if you only check mail and popular sites. If you want to use Bit-Torrent, P2P and widen the range of sites you go to, that AV probably isn't the best choice...

if you want a user friendly, stable, fast, video/graphic speciality & not having to worry about malware then go with mac, if you just want a laptop that for using the internet, playing music, gaming, emailing, and file storage then go with Windows, personally i prefer Mac but their so expensive the 17" Macbook pro is €2,500 it was worth it don't get me wrong but its quite a lot, if you're gonna stick with windows make sure get a decent laptop & not the likes of Dell or Acer

You should get a PC, its inexpensive, you can get free antivirus, you can download iMovie. you can even play games if you want to. By te way...macs do get virused too. Buy a Pc, its the right choice. If you get a Pc you will still be cool and you can Personalize it! Good luck!

The question is what doesn't it do, and it's soooooo easy to use and NO VIRUSES!!! On the other hand it it somewhat pricey but you get what you pay for. What do you need eye candy when you type a document for? Mac are made for chicks.
Photoshop CS4 looks the same on both platforms. All of MAC iSoftwares suck and not compare to pro stuffs. For example, iphoto & iweb cannot be compared to Photoshop & Dreamweaver CS4, and that's available for windows too.
Playing games 4xAA & 16xAF @ ultra high is eye candy. Mac current GPUs cannot handle games like Windows...GTX 295 & ATI 4870 x2

With a Mac you turn in on, do your stuff and shut it down.

The fact remains, windows has 91% marketshare worldwide. That's a huge number and you cannot deny its dominance. Why are they so successful? Simple, MONEY. you can get a 17inch laptop with windows for $800 w/ bluray. No one needs to spend $3k on a mac pro to browse the web and type up homework.
Don't deny it, windows is everywhere. everywhere you go (hospital, bank, university, etc) you see most pc are windows pc.
Mac doesn't make good software. iTune & Quicktime for windows is simply HORRIBLE.

Don't get me wrong I love Windows, but when I switched to Vista I couldn't use my Hotmail account with Windows Mail and I had to download Live Mail and my backups weren't compatible. WTF?

I work bank of america and we use windows pc to balance out customers' accounts

That's one good thing Microsoft is actually doing.
When it comes to server software and programming tools they are second to none.
Unfortunately they still write software from an engineering point of view, not from a customer's point of view, and as a results they still think it's enough to flood the software with features in order to get customers.

the only downside is the compatibility issues with windows,, y'kno the lack of standardization. For me right now, MSN won't work and when I try to upload anything on Safari, it shuts down!!! SO annoying, but it works with Firefox
so ya i would completely recommend a macbook, it's easier and fastre to work with ONCE YOU GET USED TO IT.

I have had so many problems with PCs in the past. Its like I was constantly tweaking them and trying to get around Windows annoyances. My Mac just works and it works beautifully. I have VMware to run Windows and that works well too.

MAC definitely. I used PCs in the past but started with MAC 6 years ago. There is absolutely no going back. The applications are awesome and now you can run windows os on MAC. MAC is user friendly and perfect for creating your videos and keeping things organized. My first MAC was only out of the box 5 minutes before I fell in love. I would not encourage anyone to buy a PC. Once you get over the differences it is a great experience you'll be able to do EVERYTHING with a MAC and much more.

I'm just going to keep it simple because I can go on and on about macs. You should definitely get a mac. Macs have a lot of cool features and applications like some you've already mentioned. In addition you can run windows operating system on a mac. On that note it's like having 2 computers in one. I've had mine for 2 years now and I love it. I have windows installed on mine using bootcamp but I rarely use it because I'm a mac person. Trust me you are going to love it . Good Luck

I just bought my Macbook Wht today, and it's wonderful. Not only that, but it's only 999.99 plus tax at Best Buy and it comes with everything, Itunes, Iphoto, Iweb, Imovie, Garage band. I just did a video using my mac it took 10 mins to edit it and it has youtube service built right in so I uploaded my video directly from Iweb.

The new $2,799 MacBook, which was debuted in January at Macworld, features both GeForce 9600M and GeForce 9400M mobile graphics cards from NVIDIA. "Apple" or "PC" is a false dichotomy nowadays. You can run pretty much any mainstream operating system on any peace of mainstream computer.
You can run Mac OS X, Linux *and* Windows on an Apple Macintosh, and you can run all three on any common non-Apple PC. (And if you decide on Mac OS X, you have *BSD UNIX covered as well, because OpenBSD is the "personality" of OS X' guts.)
I have a 7years old iBook and a 3 years old Mac Mini, both with OS X and Linux; quite happy with it.

Another thing to look into, Apples are designed for the " style " not so much the power, People who try and be sophisticated go out for starbucks, the people who make things run are usually the people sitting at home brewed computers on linux, Youtube is Linux based BTW and so are most servers. A PC computer has about 4X more hardware for the price, and if you still want the style windows cannot give just load in Ubuntu or Sabayon linux, never worry about instability or viruses again.

a KDE fan? you might want to check out Sabayon linux. I like the Gnome desktop much more, though the logo for Kubuntu is way better, they also launch Zubuntu which is built off ubuntu 8.04 I think, Hardy Heron. It featured the release name Hasty Hippogriff.

Mac is a good product, Apples Customers Service is amazing. I have never used a Mac Laptop. My last laptop I bought I wiped vista off and installed a Linux operating system. The Mac OS is a better operating system then Vista. I have been testing out Windows 7 Beta which is a vast improvement on Vista. The only reason I have never got a mac is that I find the product to be too trendy/hipsterish and thats not me. I would suggest the Mac because of all the problems I have had with Vista.

You should definitely get a macbook! I'm an ex PC user and ever since I switched to Mac I've never touched a PC. The overall look of a macbook is sleeker, easier to operate, and more attractive. PCs tend to look bulky, and there are a lot of wires to connect. Macs are definitely lighter, if you choose to get the macbook air (I'm using mine right now) you won't be sorry! They're super light, and the battery lasts a long time for a laptop so small. PCs crash, freeze, and die after a few years.

I think you should save up and get a Mac. The MacBook Pro 17" has a battery that can last an incredibly long time. It'll last up to 8 hours on a single charge if you tune down some of the settings. You can recharge it up to 1,000 times before it must be replaced. It also has an ultra-cool multi-touch trackpad. You can also install Windows using a pre-installed application called Boot Camp, if you need it. I don't have a Mac (at least not a new one), but I am going to get one soon.

1) Macs are generally as good, if not better, than a mid-range to high-end PC in terms of quality.
2) Macs get updates as well. No operating system available and supported today will not get any updates. (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, BSD, etc.)
3) Both PCs and Macs go slow over time if you don't really know how to take good care of them. And, if they go slow, you can just restore the operating system from those discs that your PC manufacturer, if they gave you one. Macs come these disc.

i would say look into a lenovo thinkpad w700. with the same specs, it is within $100 of the 17" macbook pro. also, lenovo builds better quality products than apple. so, if you're going to be paying more for quality, a thinkpad is the better choice.

It's all about what you need. PCs are the best if you're a gamer, but if you are a creator Mac may be the best choice. Macs can get viruses too, it's just that most viruses are geared to PC users. If you use a PC, PROTECT IT.

K..there may be a learning curve, but you can catch classes for the MAC...I would def. recommend the "Apple" Macbook. Ateyaa, you can get a nice Macbook 2GB, & go 4 at least 120 harddrive , it will be a monster for you....DON'T SPEND XTRA MONEY 4 A PRO...THEY R THE BOMB , BUT THE MACBOOK WILL DO YOU RIGHT AND WILL BE POWERFUL ENUF 4 YOU TO PRODUCE YOUR VIDS, MOVIES, MUSIC, ETC...OF COURSE THE SALES PEEPS WILL TRY TO "UPSELL" YOU...BUT I'M TELLIN U SIS....A MACBOOK WILL ROCK 4 U! Get a PC, Macs are overpriced and overrated. And they do get viruses actually, that's just propaganda that gets spread. Also, you need to try a Mac first, because they are a definite switch from a PC. I had to use a Mac for class and I hated it, it was horrible. I actually found an article of a contest they did to hack 3 OSs. Mac went down first, then Vista (after rules of challenge were changed), and linux never fell. Macs are overpriced and not worth the cost, go for a PC. Just research them.

That's because the creator's of viruses don't tend to focus on Macs because they're not as big a target as PC, not because they're incapable. You just have to be smart. I have a PC and have never had any problems with viruses. Proper protection is a must. There was actually a virus that hit Macs recently that took out a lot of computers, mainly because many Mac users are convinced that Macs can't get viruses so they didn't bother with an anti-virus. As far as I can see, linux is the best OS out.

Never buy a HP laptop they have too many bugs to warn you. Macs are ok, but since you don't look the type to upgrade a computer and just want something on the go. Choose a Mac. Even though I hate their products. Go for a Mac if your on the go. PC are more for stay at home but are powerhouses. While Macs are expensive and good.

I have a mac. Honestly their customer service sucks. I bought my Mac Feb of 08. I went to them this weekend because it was acting a little slow wanted to see what it was. They told me that my warranty was up and to see what the problem was I would have to pay 200 just for them to send it in and look at it. WTB!!!! Oh and the batteries on the Mac die so fast. You get on complimentry replacement. Then after that you pay 100 for a new one. I would just save the money and get a PC.

I've been using pc's for nearly 17 years, started with MS DOS, and used pretty much every Windows OS that came out. And after 17 years, and after testing a Macbook Pro, I was blown away by it, I'm going to make the switch to. I don't to use Windows anymore, I'm just tired of it. Mac OSX is a faster and just does more. As for viruses...all OS are imune to them, but since Macs are a much smaller nail, they get pounded less, so that's why you ALMOST don't get anything...

Go for the Mac. The fact that you are getting sick of your Sony means that you are as disgusted with Windows software as much as everybody else.
But if you get a Mac and start to miss Windows, it's NP. You can run it on your Mac alongside of OSX. BTW, if you don't want to spend a fortune, you can get a new Macbook for about a grand these days.

Mac is shit and are built for simpletons. You could get a much better performing PC at the same price you'd get for some overpriced mac.
Just download firefox, AVG free edition (no need to buy any pricey anti-virus shit, find it all off the internet via google), apply common sense when using the computer, and don't be stupid. I guarantee you'll be perfectly fine with PC.
All in all, if you're a fucking moron and/or technologically challenged with a few extra bucks, get a mac. Otherwise, PC.

Tell you what, performance between PC and MAC depends on what you are doing. There are a lot of things in which Macs outperform Pc's, trust me, I've seen it.
Plus AVG free edition...that's a good AV if you only check mail and popular sites. If you want to use Bit-Torrent, P2P and widen the range of sites you go to, that AV probably isn't the best choice...
About Mac OSX, trust me, it blows Windows in a lot of ways, and after 17 years using pc I'm going Mac :)

em yeh they do actually, you can change the background you know, Macs are more for business fair enough but Macs are more useful for musicians, engineers, and choreography, also Macs are the reason for the special affects in movies, and you don't need to be browsing the net to catch a virus on a windows computer sometimes updates have viruses, windows may be better for gaming but not everyone who uses a computer plays games.

You stated games...tell you what, I bought my mac nearly two weeks ago, and I'm playing PC games on it. I'm playing Counter Strike 1.6 and Source, both running @ 100 FPS. I also play World of Warcraft with 60 FPS. Never tested they run: CoD4, C&C TW3 and RA3, BF2, HL, L4D...etc
PC's do more than Macs?! Don't know, Dont' Talk!. HELL I've used PC's for 17 YEARS, I know what I'm saying -_-'
