  • Not my era, not my race, but I would cut my finger off with a rusty razor blade to see so many cool acts at once.

  • @kasteman1

"Not my era, not my race."

Regardless of race (or era) good music is universal and timeless. As a black man in my early 40's now, I cherish this period of soul music, because this was definitely a golden era. I can honestly say I even appreciate the rock groups from the 70's as well (Fleet Wood Mac, Rolling Stones, Steely Dan, The Eagles etc), because I realize now this was great music. I really feel sorry for this generation with the BS that passes for music today.

  • IM NOT BLACK BUT I FEEL BLACK.....THE MOST TALENT PEOPLE

  • if there was a white film about glorifying our culture it would be wrong. white people have been brainwashed.

  • @salamonetalton Instead of whining GO AND MAKE A WHITE CULTURE FILM! Nobody is stopping you. There is nothing wrong with white people being white and being proud. If your called racist so what! Tell people to fuck off. Wattstax is considered racist to some people but SO WHAT! So the moral of the story....Go out and make a WET, make a white culture film. If you really wanted to you would.

Anyways I LOVE Wattstax. The music is awesome.

  • that's "I'll Play The Blues For you" from Albert King!

  • Comment removed

  • well that dude is Albert King, go check out everything he did.

  • His Name is Albert King

  • Black people were so cool in those days.

  • I agree. They were cool because they were becoming natural again with natural hair and dress. Then were overly influenced again and now are almost fully rhythmless. And not so cool now compared to 1972, the era in which we won our civil rights.

  • It's ironic that around this time, the radical feelings of the 60's were fading fast and Los Angeles County was becoming overrun with crime, gangs, drug use, etc. Within ten years of this, LA was a crack-infested mess.

Sometimes I meet former Back Panthers. Some of them moved on to have careers. Others wound up in jail or on drugs.

But they have one thing in common; they don't like talking about the past.

The "revolution" of the 1960's was a disappointment.

  • The Panthers chosed the wrong political and economic views. Marxism and Maoism haven't deveoped any countries. Blacks need to develop through capitalist means(business ownership, recycling BLK dollars, investing etc). With $800 billion in spending power why do Blacks have ghettoes?

  • @CrowdPleeza Yeah, capitalism is the way to an equal society. Capitalism in general is well know for it's aversion towards exploitation of minorities and the less fortunate. You could perhaps invest in agriculture, grow cotton and sell it to the European market. But where to find cheap labor?? I know! Let's find a remarkably cheap workforce in a third world count-... wait a minute... this sounds familiar.

  • @Metamusik

You don't get "equality" under capitalism. Instead you should get options for deciding on your economic standing assuming a gov't has adopted the right policies for their country. "Equality" under capitalism can vary depending on each country's brand if capitalism. To guarntee equality for all you'd have to go the communist route but you'll have everyone stuck with the same things to keep them all "equal". Not many options under communism.

  • @Metamusik

As far as minorities under capitalism. Blacks have 1 trillion dollars in spending power. Then why so much Black poverty? The main problem with Black-Americans is that we aren't as business minded as we need to be. Blacks don't own enough businesses in their own areas. This affects wealth building and employment for Blacks. Until Blacks own more businesses others will keep benefiting from that 1 trillion in Black spending power more than Blacks are benefiting from it.

  • @CrowdPleeza and that's precisely the point: Being "business minded" is not a matter of personal choice. That 1 trillion is going into the pockets of the people who have the power to influence who gets the education to be business minded, which business i successful and so forth. It's not in their interest to have that 1 trillion going someplace ells. Nor is it in their interest to have new competitors. Thus, in a capitalistic system, the status quo will endure.

  • @Metamusik

Check out this video when you have the time. He explains the Black economic condition fairly well:

Dr.Claude Anderson on Black Business Ignorance

  • The "revolution" lost steam in lots of areas outside of LA. Lots of people in smaller cities and towns started the momentum but just did not follow through. The "revolution" became empty slogans and a fashion show for many...pity.

  • I know what you mean about the "fashion show". Che Guevera became a tee shirt.

  • LOVE THIS...very 70s!

  • this is good quality.

  • one of the greatest days in afro-american history......GREAT!!!

  • really!!! come on man. i know your better than your comment now. its a celebration an thats what you come with?later man

  • Good bye Brother ISSAC HAYES!!!!

  • Bye Gabby.

  • BLACK is BEAUTIFUL BABY !!!!RIGHT ON !!

  • I love the subdued intro by Richard Pryor. This is definitely what I'll get on DVD

  • Jesus Christ that's a huge 'fro!

  • This is a very touching film. The music is perfect.

  • They don't make 'em like Wattstax or Woodstock anymore.

I feel sorry for kids today with the ridiculous prices of concert tickets just for one or two bands. You could get into shows like these for ten bucks or sometimes for free, and look at all the acts you get to see.

  • Well I get to see 7 for 30

  • 7 bands the equivalent of a Hendrix or a Janis?

    I don't think so. :)

  • Well that would be your opinion.

  • No, that would be factual, actually

There will NEVER be another concert the equivalent of Woodstock, no matter what the producers of such events will try to sell you.

  • I am afraid there already is Since the 80's Wacken Open Air in Germany has Iron maiden Ronnie james dio,Helloween, and way to many to list well two years ago it had the best lineup ever this year not so much.

  • Hey, I love Ronnie James Dio, too, but if you are comparing a lineup featuring a band like "Helloween" to the lineup of the bands that were at Woodstock, then I'm done with this convo.

  • Whats so bad about helloween? the lineup has every good band in the metal genres thats why i picked like 3 off the top of my head.

  • LOL. I'm not saying that Helloween is bad, I'm just saying that they are not in the same league as those other guys.

  • Oh I suppose I will give you that. I am younger then you so Helloween and Iron maiden to me are like those groups to you.

  • Iron Maiden is a bunch of old guys, too. :)

There are good bands out now, but the prices are through the roof to see them. And I'm not paying all that money to see somebody lip-synching either. I don't know if they do that in the Metal genre, but they wear it out in the Pop genre.

  • well some of the bands i see are 20-30 tops and since my friend is the promoter i get em half price so for me i still get a awesome deal :D But I will agree In general for the well known bands it is Overpriced like acdc tickets were 200$ by me.

  • You gotta be kidding? $200 for AC/DC???

That's a damn shame. I heard Madonna got over $300 for her tickets last time out. $300 for that tone deaf ho? I don't think so. LOL

  • I KNOW!

Helloween/Gamma ray cost me 30$ that one was fun but I usually dont like to pay over 50$ for tickets if i can help it.

  • That's a party of a motherload! ^_^

  • nice comeback!

  • I love this movie....... but they talk about the brothers..... didn't Mel "Willy Wonka" Stuart direct this? A white dude?......

  • Yeah. And Steven "ET" Spielberg directed "The Color Purple", but it still was a black film.

  • @soulkissed Yeah but Steven Spielberg has black kids though. People don't talk about that much . (Somehow that has to make him an honorary brotha)

  • @soulkissed Louis CK wrote Pootie Tang too lol

  • @paleale1984 Who's racist now.
