  • When I racked my mead I used an autosiphon, and sanitized everything (autosiphon inside/out, hose inside/out) while wearing protective gloves that I also sanitized. Everything I've read says that sanitation is really key when trying to produce excellent mead. Another pointer I got was to use a longer hose so it goes right down to the bottom of the carboy you're racking into. This prevents unnecessary oxidizing of the mead. Thanks for the video!

  • rackings are the dregs?

  • SANITIZE and dump the sedement down the drain.

  • A coupla pointers to make a better tasting result: Hands touching the end of the siphon tube that goes into the carboy will add bacteria to the mead. Same goes for the stopper.

What I do for sanitation is use star san to sanitize the stopper, bubbler and the carboy. When I put something in contact with the fermenting mead is use a spritzer bottle with grain alcohol in it to spray on everything to kill the bacteria. It really helps keep the taste better.

    Enjoy!

  • Remove the sediment on the bottom, introduce bacteria from your mouth. Autosiphon. Seriously.
