Great to hear this complete, unbroken, and a stunning interpretation from the orchestra & conductor,in fact the most brilliant moments are not from the soloist, worthy tho he may be.That may be truer to Busoni's idea:"primo inter pares,"the piano commenting&coloring, not always leading, but it makes for a slight lack of pianistic excitement. Also there are solo passages which seem to have been (re?)-recorded in a different acoustic.Still marvellous to hear this stunning work from different angles.
Paik performed the Busoni concerto in Denmark, Miami, and Seattle. It'd be interesting to know which performance this was. The orchestra did a first rate job here. The pianist doesn't really enter into the spirit of the piece, and in any case is not integrated properly into the fabric of the orchestra by the recording engineers. It's almost as if he's being miked separately.
@dorfmanjones Yes, the piano is a bit to quiet, and I don't think that's Paik's fault by any means. Is this a live recording or a studio recording? There is no applause at the end, although the applause may be edited out (I think that was done with some of Bernstein's recordings as a conductor).
