Reminds me of Nicholas Roeg - particularly The Man Who Fell to Earth, and Walkabout. I think this way of including music with meditative imagery may have influenced some of The Man Who Fell to Earth. Who knows?
I see this as Beate Mainka-Jellinghaus' film just as much as it is Herzog's. It obviously all came to place in the edit suits unlike almost all of his other films. This is certainly his odd one out. Takes a little while to get into, but then it becomes totally engrossing. Incidentally this is my favourite sequence from the film, and one I recently analysed for a research folder I finished on editing. Love it!
