  • Nice memories! I was a part of WERA from 1989 to when it went dark in 1997. Those jingles brought back some real fun times. Thanks for sharing!

  • WWRL, in order to increase its power on 1600, bought WERA, WLNG 1600 on LI and the off-the-air license for WQQW 1590 in Waterbury, CT in the mid 90s. WWRL paid $2.9 mil for WLNG-AM and $600,000 for WQQW's license. I don't know how much WWRL paid for WERA.

  • Wow. I don't understand why they would just shut down without at least making an annoucement. I don't understand companies that do this sort of thing. What's so hard about telling the public what's going to happen? Irresponsible.

  • Some of the DJs claimed in advance that the station would move to a different frequency instead of shutting down, but that ultimately proved to be false. It was at about 10:45 AM one morning when the station's owner suddenly took the microphone, read a quick sign-off, and shut off the transmitter. I would not be surprised he did so immediately after WWRL's buyout check cleared at the bank! 1070 WKMB now uses the former WERA studios in Plainfield, however, so all is not lost in local NJ radio.

  • Awesome song at 0:44!
