For Mario's side, they should've used Toads for pawns and green pipes for rooks. For Bowser's side, goombas for pawns, koopa towers for rooks, and koopatrols for knights

they really half-assed the pieces, Koopa is a better rook, goombas OBVIOUSLY the pawns and common mario peach = king+queen Luigi daisy = Bishops
