Growing up in the very early 70's my brother and used to fight a lot about we watched on Saturday mornings, but we had a standing agreement going. I always got to watch the Globetrotters as long as he got to watch Speed Racer.
I get chills watching this b/c of all the world's landmarks I've been to and never knew that I was watching them over 40 years ago in a cartoon. weird.
Oh, jeez.....love this, but the scrawny granny cheerleader had entirely been erased from my memory. Erased, or more likely, very, very heavily suppressed. Now I'll have to do that decade of drugs, alcohol, and skanky women all over again.
Never had the opportunity to see the cartoon, but really dig the theme song. The chorus, whistles, claps, and basketball beat are very catchy and memorable. Very funky bass line indeed! I hope all the business hoo-hah gets reconciled; I'd love to see it.
@TG1980 There is also the possibility that the series rights may have reverted back to the Globetrotters (along with the later series, "The Super Globetrotters")
@TG1980 Sh*t. CBS owns everything don't they? Even shows from originally other networks and ruins it for the rest of us especially if you want a great show but it's rare and whoever is in charge up there hates old programs obviously. Did you know that there's a possibility they will not finish releasing all the episodes of the streets of san francisco due to one episode starring John davidson who sings a few old standards, they don't wanna pay for those songs so stop the DVDs is their move...
I remember this coming on on Saturday Mornings. Like Josie and the Pussycats that also premiered that year, there was always a song near the end of the show, usually during a game. My favorite was Cheer Me Up, BTW.
The only channel I know that was the last to show this was TV Land when they had their own Saturday morning line-up. You can see the old TV Land logo appear at 0:33 on the bottom right.
Wow, did that ever take me back..."HEY! WHAT?" and that "whistling" portion with the ball bouncing around their legs is still lodged deep in my carefree childhood memories.
One of the best intro's ever!!!
This is what music needs now. Simplicity, groove factor, and harmony.
Hey! WHAT???

Who wrote this theme? Give that man a Grammy!
GorgeousTube 1 year ago 16
@GorgeousTube, you asked who wrote this theme. Jeff Barry did. He produced all the Globetrotters music as well.
MLMusicBox 1 year ago
@GorgeousTube That would be the late Hoyt Curtin (1922-2000) who also composed many other cartoon themes produced by Hanna-Barbera.

@Scarletspeedster68 Had no idea Hoyt Curtin did the Trooters theme. Jonny Quest was a masterpeice, as was the Jetsons.

As an aside:
What'd ya think of the basketball bouncing (A *real* ball! No synthesisers!) doing the percussion breaks? Instead of just the drums?
Ennyroad, one of Hanna-Barbera's most underrated and yet BRILLIANT programmes *EVER!*
Sure hope that Warner Brothers gets it together and give us a Harlem DVD compilation...
Thanx fer this, m8..
