As much as I'd like to think that backing the currency with gold or silver would stabilize the dollar. I don't think that is such a good idea because there just isnt enough of it for the population. On the other hand I'd be for private banks having to keep a certain percentage as part of their reserves, by law.

Put the fed under congress and treasury directly. 0% interest rates and the private banks can set their own interest rates. Tax reform, flat tax or national sales tax. It should be whatever the free and unhampered market decides it should be (which almost certainly would be gold and silver). Hyperinflation is completely economically devastating. It would be much better to allow depositors to lose their money, allowing physical cash to maintain some value and many less lives would be lost.
