F-4 Phantom was designed to shoot down Russian bombers. F-4 pilots were not prepared to tangle with lightweight Mig's. Good series, but It is kind of annoying how they completely skip aerial achievemnts by the opposition, for example the top scoring jet ace is not American.
German, British, Japenese, Russian, Vietnamese, etc, networks are more than welcome to make their own TV shows about their national aces..nobody would be offended by it. However, "Dogfights" is an American-made show, so I don't think it's any surprise that it focuses on US pilots. That doesn't make the show some nationalist piece of propoganda..people read into things too much sometimes. A thing can just be what it is.
@rmstorms Well for example there were ace pilots who engaged only fighter craft in their time on both sides. I understand why they don't show it though,it will be unacceptable if they show a Vietnamese or Russian pilot shooting down a plane that is flown by somebody's father or grandfather. Mig-21 never played a supporting role to N vnam, there were around 10 of them... american pilots were great but not that great, they flew against poor, starving people so really that doesnt count, i guess a real fight we may never see as the states always likes to fight agains poor nations in fear of retaliation.

I've seen many of these episodes, and although it is focused on the achievements of American pilots, most only show one or two kills per pilot, which isn't unreasonable. Service records for ace pilots may only show around 10 or 15 total kills for a career. The show is supposed to be about the dogfights that went well for American pilots, not the ones who died-which I'm sure were numerous.

At no point does the show claim there were no decent enemy pilots, or that no American planes were shot down. @StaKind85 I ment skill (vareys) or discipline (mostly), we often had fewer kills due to being put in areas with little opposition and diden't fall for the "bait in the distance trick" and go after them only to have a smaller mob attack the bombers with tragic results. I'me not they were unskilled pilots or anything just on a number of times they were outflowen. Plus they often outnumberd a hopless foe who bearly knew how to fly or were being told what to do from the ground.
@Thule2000 This is an American made series. I wrote to the producers and asked them about Sabu Sakai and some others. They were planning to expand further in their third season which, alas, never came. There were a few episodes that never aired (at least I never saw them) one depicting the Falklands War which of course had no US participants.
If the countries of those you mentioned want ot honor them, they could always develop their own series/show.

The show is American. Americans pay for the animators, the voice actors and all of the other expenses. They therefore reserve the right to display whichever factions they want in any conflicts they want. If you don't want to watch a documentary about Americans-Israelis then don't watch American documentaries about those.
Ask some Finnish or Swedish company to make their own documentary but don't bash ours just because we show our own heroes on them.

I agree with you, but israeli pilots are rarely shot down in air combat, but still it would be amazing to see that and erich hartmann would be interesting and the russians are completely ignored as are the british. you'll sometime see americans shot down in the vietnam episodes

Regarding the pilots you mention maybe most of them are dead and that is why the History Channel producers are not interested: they can not comment their own dogfight

However, "Dogfights" is an American-made show, so I don't think it's any surprise that it focuses on US pilots. That doesn't make the show some nationalist piece of propoganda..people read into things too much sometimes. A thing can just be what it is.

I understand why they don't show it though,it will be unacceptable if they show a Vietnamese or Russian pilot shooting down a plane that is flown by somebody's father or grandfather. It will be unacceptable if they show the opposite in Vietnam or Russia. I am just commenting from the POV of a person whose nation was not involved in these conflicts and I want to see both sides of the story

Mig-21 never played a supporting role to N vnam, there were around 10 of them... american pilots were great but not that great, they flew against poor, starving people so really that doesnt count, i guess a real fight we may never see as the states always likes to fight agains poor nations in fear of retaliation.

I've seen many of these episodes, and although it is focused on the achievements of American pilots, most only show one or two kills per pilot, which isn't unreasonable. Service records for ace pilots may only show around 10 or 15 total kills for a career. The show is supposed to be about the dogfights that went well for American pilots, not the ones who died-which I'm sure were numerous.

At no point does the show claim there were no decent enemy pilots, or that no American planes were shot down. If you want something with the perspective of the Vietnamese or German pilots, I'm sure you can find other videos with the appropriate footage.

@StaKind85 I ment skill (vareys) or discipline (mostly), we often had fewer kills due to being put in areas with little opposition and diden't fall for the "bait in the distance trick" and go after them only to have a smaller mob attack the bombers with tragic results. I'me not they were unskilled pilots or anything just on a number of times they were outflowen. Plus they often outnumberd a hopless foe who bearly knew how to fly or were being told what to do from the ground.

@Thule2000 This is an American made series. I wrote to the producers and asked them about Sabu Sakai and some others. They were planning to expand further in their third season which, alas, never came. There were a few episodes that never aired (at least I never saw them) one depicting the Falklands War which of course had no US participants.
If the countries of those you mentioned want ot honor them, they could always develop their own series/show.

The show is American. Americans pay for the animators, the voice actors and all of the other expenses. They therefore reserve the right to display whichever factions they want in any conflicts they want. If you don't want to watch a documentary about Americans-Israelis then don't watch American documentaries about those.
Ask some Finnish or Swedish company to make their own documentary but don't bash ours just because we show our own heroes on them.

Regarding the pilots you mention maybe most of them are dead and that is why the History Channel producers are not interested: they can not comment their own dogfight

But it is a US show shown to mostly Americans so it is going to try and not upset their audience lol, if they didn't a lot of extreme-patriots would stop watching and they are probably a big part of the audience in this case.
