  • Very cool! Keep it up.

  • Amazing cover, what classical guitar are you using?

  • @ShittyMcPoopyBalls Thank you, That's a Yamaha

  • My favorite Rush song and you killed it, man. Great work.

  • @PitchfordStache Thanks Adrian

  • Awesome!!!!

  • @MrDrummertheo Thank you Theo

  • Sometimes covers dont make me angry. This one almost made me cry. Love this song.

  • I have grown to like this better than the original. It's a fresh take. Nice job.

  • @alansmithee95608 Thanks Alan

  • Dayum, you are good!!!!!! And so much fun to watch all the different guitars coming in and out. AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • Simply awesome. Nice guitars as well. Especially that Ibanez Vai signature.

  • @randyrhoadsliveson Thank you

  • Have to send this to an old girlfriend....she'd love it! She busted out with The Pass....knew all the lyrics and brought tears to me eye! The only girl I knew that knew and understood Rush...oops "I got a shrimp caught (cot ) in my tooth!"

  • How can two people dislike this? It's obviously the product of a lot of time and effort. It's very well done. I suppose some would rather have Geddy and the boys play it, but then those people shouldn't watch a COVER video! And if you don't like Rush or this particular song, then you shouldn't be watching it. Nice work here.

  • whoops sorry not guys, just one guy, even more amazing!

  • Wow you guys are awesome, just as good as the original!

  • Simply outstanding Glenn. Can you post the GT-10 patches you used, particularly on the solo? And on the acoustic intro? Oh, wait ... :) Thanks much!

  • @solospam Thank you, you can download that GT-10 patch from my website. The Acoustic intro was recorded with a mic so no GT-10 used there.

  • @extremevideopro I counted at least 3 patches here: the main (rhythm) patch in the verse/chorus, the "clean" patch in the bridge with the keyboards, and the patch for the solo. I assume the solo was your Plexi Lead patch (which is outstanding BTW). Which were the other two patches? Thanks!

  • @solospam That's the Clean Chorus and the Plexi Rhythm

  • how did you isolate the drum part?

  • @vkiperman I actually programmed that whole drum piece using my recording MIDI editor. I use Superior Drummer for the drum samples and I use a MIDI keyboard to beat out the drum parts. This all happens inside of Cubase SX3 recording software. I've been using this method for about 22 years now and I have gotten very proficient at it.

  • ????? I thought only Geddy could hit those notes. such a beautiful song, well done

  • 2 people like to waste perfectly good paper.

  • ooooooooo this is amazing man, i liked this cover very much! i have tried to do something like this, but i dont have a good voice to sing hahaha xd watch my cover if you want

  • all your knees move at the same time :)

    great cover BTW

If people only knew how much time/effort this takes

    how'd you do the drums?

  • @DarkSkyRain Thanks, I program the drums using Superior Drummer

  • very good cover..however nobody understands the soul of Rush

  • this is incredible! geddy, neil, and alex would be proud

  • @alex94kumar Thanks Alex

  • Really great singer! There are not enough of them unfortunately

  • @EvilRedGoose Thanks Zach

  • Awesome man! Great job! You, my friend, have earned another fan. Subscribed!

  • this is my favorite rush song

  • Glenn, as I browse through you tube, I become fascinated with all the great musicians out there, and while you may not agree, I believe you are one of the best for many reasons. Believe me when I say it cause I've been in it a long time, it takes more than just great chops. You have have GREAT chops and a whole lot more. That's what makes you stand out!! Just keep it going and maybe one day I'll have you make a guest appearance on one of my vids(when I get all this stuff figured out). Peace2U

  • @BILLYRAYBREWSTER Thank you Billy Ray

  • Glenn, now that I know you are a Rush fan...we need to jam soon!

  • you know I was wondering, do you make the drum parts on your vids?

  • @js1julio100 Yes I do

  • @extremevideopro But why dont you show yourself playing drums on your vids? I mean it seems like you show yourself playing everything except the drums and I would like to see you playing the drums.

  • @js1julio100 I not really a good drummer. I program most of my drums using a MIDI Keyboard.

  • @js1julio100 percussion is another world... I've never seen a guitar player playing drums very well..

  • Awesome job man! i've been trying to learn this song for a while now, but I think my problem is that I don't have a thumbpick. How long did it take you to learn the entire intro? I'm curious. but AWESOME job man!

  • @SuperKyle999 Thanks, not very long. I have always been able to learn Alex Lifeson's stuff pretty fast.

  • Awesome, lovely, great :)

  • That was really great. Are you using a thumb pick on all the guitars and bass?

  • @Herreken Thank you, yes, I use a thumb pick on everything.

  • @extremevideopro That's very cool. It sounded just like the studio version. The bass tone was spot on.

  • damn that singer is good

  • hey =)

Thank you for answering so fast ^^

Do you make ur money with Music? :) Would be very interesting...

Btw... you are a great guitarist!!

    keep on Rockin ;D

  • @FameGuitar77 Thank you, yes I play music and I am a computer graphics artist by day.

  • You said u play it by ear... But tell me: How long u did until the whole song was ready?

    Amazing work...

  • @FameGuitar77 I was a junior in High School when this album came out. 1978 I think it was. I had alreay been playing guitar for 11 years by then. I have always been able to pick up Alex Lifeson stuff very easy. I don't know what it is I can just hear things yo know? It just takes lots of practice. That's all. you can do it too!!

  • Dude that was awesome

  • dude gratz,beast cover

  • You need Astrotama playing the drum part

  • @braincrisp1 yeah that dude is baddass!!

  • Awesome !

  • Looks perfect to me. Did you get ths from a song book?

  • @BarriosGroupie No I play by ear.

  • Terrific performance. I love seeing people do cool stuff like this.. especially with Rush songs.

  • @Micas099 Thank you.

  • I saw that very same silver PRS on eBay today!

  • @Amplifiedfreak Really?? how much was it going for?

  • @extremevideopro It says 1,699.99, but no one's started bidding yet...I actually might get it :]

  • @smellslikerockspirit Is it brand new?? can't be for that price. Be careful

  • how do you record your bass?

  • @iloveibanez92 For bass guitar I actually go through a Line6 POD X3-Live. They have some really nice sounding EQ's & Preamps in that X3 unit. Then I take a stereo line out of the X3 into my computer audio interface.

  • @extremevideopro I know they make separate bass gt-10s but do you think it would sound "bad" it" to record bass to guitar gt-10 to computer via the gt-10s direct usb?

  • @iloveibanez92 No not at all, in fact I have done this. It works very well. The GT-10 has some very good EQ's and compression that would do well for Bass guitar recording.

  • you da man! Very good!

  • Too much gain on the vocals, otherwise very good.

  • VERY GOOD.

    NOW,PLAY THE DRUM LINES ALSO!!

  • What kind of PRS is that?

  • @diazcamille That's a Limited Edition Experience Model. It's basically a Custom 24 with a custom paint job.

  • amazing cover!

  • man, you're awesome! congratulations!

  • You know it would really impress me more if could sing a song by journey, cause steve perry has a great voice!!!

  • @js1julio100 I may do a Journey cover soon.

  • @js1julio100 had a great voice...

  • The best bunshin cover!! great man

  • dude great cover, best cover ive seen in youtube by far, u deserve a whole lot more views than what this video has already!!!

  • @js1julio100 Thank you

  • well done man...killer

  • Great work. Tough tune to cover and you got it all by yourself. Nice! And it's about time someone gets these damned trees in line- this bickering is ridiculous. Hatchet, axe, and saw to them if they can't get along.

  • @gatorclaw Thank you very much!! :)

  • A lot of fun!

Just a suggestion, in case you're interested:

In the 5/4 part of the chorusy middle section, Lifeson rings those arpeggios out by playing all the fretted notes high up on the D-string using the 11th, 12th, and 14th frets--all the other notes are open G and B strings, with an occasional A string ringing out at the beginning of every two bar phrase.

This is one of those goofy Lifeson things that sounds quizzically difficult until you try it. WAY easier, actually!!

    Good luck!

  • Nice job man- I've been in the process of nailing this song note for note on my guitar over the last couple of days and your cover was magnificent, job well done- Rush would be very proud!

  • @TheTor Thank you.

  • you should make me your drummer

  • Man great editing and playing, that was really entertaining. You did that song justice!

  • It's true ..it is quality work. You have a clean ,and a very accurate guitar sound just like Rush ( very close ) It's hard to sing at ''that pitch'' but you did well!! Good for you indeed!!

  • @MiCaCasTuCaCa Thank you very much

  • I know Rush lol ,but I'm sorry ...I don't know the names of the band members. This I know: you make a good impression of them ,in all the covers you've done ,and I've seen so far. Congrats quality work!!

  • @MiCaCasTuCaCa Thank you very much

  • love this cover. great job

  • @dartski245 Thank you very much

  • man this video is awesome!!! you're really awesome!!!

  • @MetalHeadJimi93 Hey Thanks bro!!

  • aw man i love rush.

you did perfectly... aside from the vocals i couldn't tell it wasn't even rush.

    simply amazing.

  • @TheGirlWithTheGun Thank you

  • Wow, very nice !!

  • Nice work man! Wow!

  • Just fucking amazing man. How much time did you invest in putting this video together? The music sounded just like the original.

  • Thank you, well it takes a long time to get it right. But I love doing this stuff.

  • Damn, that is really good!

  • Keep up the good work and Rush one of my fav band. It all started with Rush for me.

  • Hey thanks, me too man. I learned lots of Rush when I was younger.

  • awesome really really good work!!

  • really nice cover dude but apart from your talent as a guitarist how did u make the video? what program allowed u to put vids ontop of each other like that? preimere?thanks

  • I use Sony Vegas 8 Pro but Premiere could do this easily as well.

  • As a Rush fan I must say you kick serious ass brother, thanks for this amazing cover

  • Thanks for all the great comments guys.

  • Well done man!!

  • Thank you. :)

  • Hey there Glenn

    I got my GT-10 already! =)

Great covers as always! And you sing wonderfully well, really amazing skills.

Could I ask you a well questions? Apart from the acoustic guitar, and the guitars using GT-10, right? How did you record the bass? And are the drums VST's?

Sorry for asking so many questions! hahaha

Cheers, have a nice day man.

  • I recorded the bass right from the GT-10 using a clean preset. The drums are all VSTi's

    Cheers

  • Perfect cover!

  • Thank you, Merry Christmas

  • Wow, this is incredible man. Nice gear too, I love that bass.

  • man that is AMAZING O_O congratulations... hey btw i've always wondered how can i make this kind of video, you know, like recording audio and video at the same time and all that editing... any tips? :D

  • Dude, this is the most amazing rush cover i have ever seen.

no other cover has the person doing all parts.

    i am amazed.

  • Hey Thanks guys

  • A perfect cover of this marvelous song !! Congratulations !!

  • Nice equipment :o

  • Why are you playing with only your thumb on the bass?

  • I know it's hard to see but I am using a thumb pick.

  • Great cover, I love that song!

  • Thanks guys. Yeah great album from one of my all time faves!!

  • Nice Jem but even better video!

  • Why don`t you show drums????

    Otherwise it is amazing skills!

  • Because I programmed the drums on a MIDI keyboard controller. That would probably look pretty silly.

  • Best cover I have come across !

  • Wow. this is amazing. You have the vocals spot on!

  • amazing man, i really enjoyed your cover

  • Thanks guys. It was fun to record this song.

  • wow : O

  • great abilitys you are a professional

  • Wow man you're incredible! Awesome cover :)

  • You are amazing great cover !

  • Holy smokes this is really professional stuff. HD camera too? Amazing vocals. Quite possibly the best youtube cover I've ever seen. And I'm not even a big Rush fan. 5/5

  • how did you do the drum track?

  • I program the drums using a combination of ToonTrack EZ Drummer, XLN Audio Addictive Drums and Steinbetrg LM4-MKIII.

  • Wow you are amazing. You're my new idol lol. I need to do some stuff like this

  • Man I have the Vegas, I'm doing a collab video, and I have to edit like your video of The Trees, do you could me pass a tutorial of how to do this effects with split screen ?

  • You can either use the Pan & crop or you can use Track motion. Just search the help files you'll figure it out.

  • Wow. That was amazing! You can sing too? :-0

Best Rush cover I've ever heard.

  • Thanks man, like your videos too!!

  • I just watched your Breaking the Chains Vid and now have been blown away once more by this RUSH cover... amazing job... simply amazing... RUSH and Queenxsryche: 2 of my fave bands! Keep up the good work!

  • Thanks bro

  • not a big fan of the song. but, very nice video editing. I want to say you were using your GT-10 based upon your guitar tone, but I see you had voice and bass. Was this your X3?

  • This was done with the GT-10

  • The Best TREES cover I've ever heard .. More RUSH please!! Xanadu, Nobody's hero, ...

  • Seriously though again man, you can almost chew on that solo tone.

  • Superbly done, such different technique for covering a Rush song as well. Very unique. The guitar tone you have is just unbelievable, especially for the solo. What are you playing through? And seriously, gorgeous guitars. I got a bunch of guitars and lookin for new ones, what's the one with the vines on the fretboard? And what model PRS is that? I usually don't ask so many questions, but I'm not usually this impressed by Rush covers! Great work.

  • Thank you. The guitar with the vine inlays is an Ibanez Jem. It's a Steve Vai signature model. The PRS is a Limited Edition Experience model.

  • Hey man, How did you edit that with Vegas ?

  • I use a split screen trick I figured out.

  • Great Video, Where do you edit your videos?

    Great Playing

  • Thanks the video editing is all done on a laptop using Sony Vegas 8 Pro editing software.

  • how many guitars do you have glenn? lol

  • I have about 18 or 20 i guess. There's only about 5 or 6 that I'm playing right now for different things though, but mostly I am playing my PRS and my Ibanez Jem. I feel very blessed to be able to play such fine instruments!!

  • you are blessed man, i would kill for a jem. but maybe someday keep rockin my friend

  • Very very very good! Great song!

  • Thanks guys :)

  • glenn i think you overdid yourself here, this is amazing!!! alex lifeson better step it up haha keep rockin bro

  • Great video, had no idea you can sing or play synth too :)

  • U guys just blew my mind! What kind of bass is that i just got a new BTB..

  • Thst'a an Ibanez

  • 5 Star. Favorite. Very good.

  • nice prs. and great playing. and surprisingly good vocals

  • Thanks bro

  • i love this song, you did a fantastic, if not perfect job!

  • Fantastic

    great vocals

and the playing as usual is great.

One of my favorites of all time.

    thanks

  • Finger Picking Lifeson. LOL, Very Nice...

  • Wow, this is amazing. The quality really shows. Great Job. How do you record the bass? Do you connect it to the computer via USB with the POD? Thanks

  • Hey thanks, I record the bass guitar using the L&R outputs of my Boss GT-10.

  • which drums software are you using?

  • I use EZ Drummer to program my drum parts

  • Amazing production quality! Bravo! Your voice was surprisingly fitting too. Props for this!

  • Outstanding job as usual Glenn! Sounds fantastic!

So what we are hearing is just the GT-10 into your computer is that right?
