You all did a great job. I would have given you 5* but the rating was disabled. I posted a video response called "The Lady the Sea". BTW, I graduated from UConn in 1967.
Cowbell drug. I have played this song at about 120-150 beats per min and it sounded more together. I know thats a huge tempo jump, but it may bring the sound together a bit more. You guys have a good sound. Bring out the Bass pans more. I can barely hear the bass line. The rest of the band is balanced. Where's the drumset?
check out our other vids to see us play it live. we were merely practicing it this time...and our drummer was out for whatever reason. I can't remember 'cuz it was over a year ago.
if ur sayin they dnt do n e justice w8 til u hear them live coz if u think they was fab on er ul love them live! av only herd them once live coz its hard to hear them when your playint hem ur self but ther amazin!
u all sound really good..i play tenor in a band called Branches Pangroove steel Orchestra in boston..im thinkin about goin to uconn next year ..if i get in maybe ill be able to play with u all..
I'm in high school and I play all of the pans, we all do, because we need to have backups in case someone can't make it to an event. The only bad thing is it's hard to transport all of the instruments. But we have fun. Nice job.
Well done man! Great performance. Very simple, but extremely nice. I play tenor myself, and I'm gonna ask the crew if we can play this tune :) Thanks for posting this vid. Keep it up. :D
"I have a fever and the only perscription is MORE COWBELL!" LOL sorry this reminded me of that. Anyway great job, only 6 weeks and you're all playing this whole song, wow thats great! I wish I could learn steel pan, keep it up!
You guys sound great!! Keep up the good work. To those of you who say "learn to play" and "you guys suck", how about YOU go play and see how YOU sound. You're the one who chose to watch the video.
I like it, but can never be compared to an electric(hollowbody) guitar, upright/stand up bass, a set of drums, and of course Ritchie Valens himself. Very nice though. I liked this video.
lol that's me. i'm supposed to be playing on the lead pan (in the live version you can find of us you'll see that i am) but we didn't have enough tenors at that point. it's hard to do when you're the only one who's counting the time among 8 people.
umm did you read the description? at this point we had only been playing for about 6 weeks, and most of the people you see here had never played the steel pan before. Are we as good as, say, the Pantonics from NY or the legendary Liam Teague? Hell no. But we've done a damn good job in a short amount of time. Don't be so ignorant and expect perfection from a group of first-time amateurs.
cheers! i love the steel drums! i play the cellos and i way envy the striped ones you've got there! i think i'll put in a petition for my cellos to be striped. ;) cheers. i love steel!
they need a solid drummer on a drumset to get some rythem in them, and they need to really speed it up...find some pan players from trinidad and u'll know what i'm talkin about
k well u guys need to really free up, i've never seen real pan players so stiff behind a pan, and watching a pan so hard...our players can play a whole chune on a pan while jumping up and watching you straight in the eye...
obviously that's something that any group needs to work on. our players aren't experts on the pan. the majority of them in this video started learning the instrument a month and a half before we taped this. Check out our performance video of the same song. it's faster, has a drummer, and some of us loosened up more.
kool i used to play la bamba too! but we sounded different
