@iannuty Well, explain how John Paul Jones met Jimmy Page for the first time when Jimmy was walking out of the the studio after recording with Donovan on this song?!! I heard John Paul Jones say that once when he was being interviewed about the days before Led Zeppelin !
Love this video! Actually feels like '68 when you watch it! (I'm 57; I remember when) Groovy Granny also has an excellent video; but you can't post on it anymore. Shame. Too much cofusion about who played what and when. Just enjoy the show people!(Bill Graham circa: 1968 Fillmore East)
Who knows if that's Jimmy Page? Jimmy Page said it was'nt him. Anyway; I love this video. This is pure Fillmore East! I think 52telecasterbobs real name is JOSHUA!(light show)
I've heard so many comments about who played which and what, not sure if this'll set the record straight either. But you know there could've been several versions of this song. One with Pagey - and probably the recorded one, and one with Alan Parker from Blue Mink. At any rate I've heard that Page admitted doing the solo sometime back.
donovan was probably on heavy amounts of acid too...
"according to John Paul Jones, who arranged and played bass on the track (he also booked the session musicians), Clem Cattini played the drums and Alan Parker played the electric guitar."
(cattini was actually almost considered for LZ ironically...)
@BGwinetteMulroney1 Well, we'll all find out if Jimmy will reply to my question about this! He is on myspace and I've emailed him this question.....let's see if he will answer....stay tuned!!!! :)
@BGwinetteMulroney1 the only thing that relates this song to Led Zeppelin is John Paul Jones. note my quote from wikipedia. never said jimmy page played on this version
"You really freaked us out."

Guitar is played by Alan Parker, drummer Clem Cattini said this and he was Donovans drummer at the time of this recording.

Alan Parker on lead guitar.
Big Jim Sullivan, guitarist, made some contribution.
Clem on drums.
JPJ arranged and played on this.
The first time LZ played together on vinyl was with PJ Proby.
Any other questions ?

In the DVD Sunshine Superman Donovan himself told about Page and other two LZs taking part in Hurdy Gurdy Man

@twistedviewlabs look, a guitar solo is as recognizable as a voice. This is not Jimmy's 'voice', it must be Alan Parker

Bob,
I have heard that none other than Jimmy Page, John Bohnam and John Paul Jones played with Donovan Leech on this song.
Now, that's pretty cool!
So is your video.!
