My kids get two meals a month from a Catholic charity; but it's thanks to WIC and food stamps that they get nutritious meals the other 88 meals a month, not to mention their medical care (which I don't qualify for). I know your philosophy goes down easier if you imagine government does everything poorly, but it's not so. My sister, born American like me, became a Canadian citisen a few years ago and she is very happy with her health care and maternity leave btw.
