  • I first heard this song on Pandora on my android, and this song is amazing!!!!!!!!!

the only draw back on Pandora was that there is no replay button.

  • When my family and I were still living in Ireland, my mother used to sing this to me and my sister when she brushed my sister's hair. Good memories, indeed.

  • This is the secont song i lernd on my harmonica

  • it would be better with some bag pipes though its still a great song with out it

  • i grew up wid dis song

  • I'll sing ballad too,I'm writing new words now

    amazing:)

  • i love this song. makes me feel like the real Irish person i am :D

  • who from Celtic Woman is singing this? I noticed they were tagged

  • @Broadway3

No one from the band "Celtic Woman" is singing. The band's name is Déanta on the compilation album "Celtic Wonder."

  • @Broadway3 It's so when you're looking for Celtic Woman songs it can slip in on the search :) Especially if you're looking for this song but have forgotten the album and song name lol it does help :)

  • I had this cd when I was very young.

I beleive it was one of the ones that my mother set me down to sleep to.

It makes me feel as though I am wrapped in home and warmpth.

  • I love the moral teachings and the social undertones subtly played out in poetic turns of phrase - much like the way the fiddle and whistle express the melody. The maid who "sold" her "barley" - reminds me of the English folk song "Let no man steal your thyme"

  • i love this song im kinda young but my mom gave me this when i was young and its got a good beat

  • @100turley Maybe the people that like it listen to it? You have a point that this music does seem to have turned into a tourist novelty which is a shame.. as the rich heritage of music in Ireland has so much more to offer than that. I don't think dismissing it as 'shit' is much of an argument though.

  • Im Mexican and love this , this does not matter. Race is something that should not be considered a factor when listening to music.

  • @Darksky1001able Celtic music was an original music. Asian music seems to have been influenced back in the 1200's by Celtic music. Even music from Mexico has it's roots with the Celts. In the US, Zydeco, Blue Grass, Blues, Rock etc. all have their roots coming from the great music of yesteryear.

  • bitch I thought we had a deal?!?!

  • this is one of those mornings where you are like "damn, it's good to be irish :)"

  • WONDERFUL voice !

  • thank you so much for posting all these! My cd is so old it won't play anymore and I missed hearing such amazing music! ♥

  • Why that dirty little fresh green hoking whore!

  • @FrowningGORILLA Haaha poor girl. He coulda beena rakehell you never know! ;)

  • @tjandthreedaysgrace Yeah, I figured it was a very old song. But I bet when it was first written, it was written for a guy to sing. So I guess what I'm saying is I think it's weird they had a lady singing it. I really do like the song though :)

  • @angelbutterfly64

I've been listening to this song for years now and i actually just realized that it's a lady singing about another lady by reading your comment x). Strange indeed. I'm glad they had a woman singing it though, for she has that beautiful soft, high-pitched voice that most men usually don't have.

  • @coccinelsucrer Well, I'm glad I could enlighten you! I do agree that this lady's voice is very beautiful though :)

  • tis simply old irish comfort... grab a glass o beear n pull upa stool n listen to the magic being made... 100% beutiful! Salute!

  • I havent heard this since I was a boy!!!!

  • ireland is the motherland for all good music

  • Either it was originally written by a man, or Irelands cool as hell.

  • Does anyone else think it's weird that a lady is singing a song about being in love with a lady??

  • @angelbutterfly64 i think it's cool

  • @angelbutterfly64 This song itself is very old...This is a remake by a girl named Deanta...i thougth the same thing when i first heard it

  • This music speaks to my soul it will make me smile no matter the situation and makes me think of home

  • lol wow thats really funny :D haha kind sir ive already sold my barley haha

  • This isn't really about "barley"....is it? lol

  • @starlemagne no it is but the guys buying it because he thinks shes hot and wants to get with her

  • I just love this song ! I heard this in "Carrefour" (like walmart but in France) .

I listened this song while watching the sunrise .

And it's like the sun shine on your life and the clouds smiles to you .

The best morning of my life .

  • I love celtic music because of the relaxing quality to it. My norm is rock but i have a soft side for celtic.

  • yes yes i heard this in wall-fart to but

i have listend to celtic and irish music befor this,

and remember it is pronounced KEL-tic not SEL-tic

like when i here on the radio about the basketball team the celtics

andthey say the Seltics tis a bit annoying

  • I love this song. I heard it first at walmart.. and everytime I hear it playing I have to sing along. Its so beautiful.

  • @armonia89 omg i heard this song at walmart first to im so glad i pressed play on that button i loooove this song its classic i love celtic!!

  • The first time I heard this music (from Deanta) I was at Cozumel with an aunt, after having had a great time horseriding, and at dusk, on the road back, I fell in love with this and "lakes of pontchartrain" song.

Then, 2 years later, I found this cd in Walmart, and inmediately bought it. Now I listen to it everytime I've got to stand infront of the computer doing homework or when I just wish to relax.

  • dude, i found this song at wal mart with my best friend and when we listen to it i always sing it for like an hour after that. :D

  • i listen to this when im grooming, alpine that is'

  • I love this song.

  • I am so happy I am Irish! Irish music is so pretty!!! I hope I can visit Ireland one day!

  • how the hell are you irish?

it takes more than a family tree to be a nationality.

  • @broersz I tend disagree. In my case my family persecutes me for not speaking spanish, for listening to Irish music among other things... and lots more. It's just silly really. I'm puerto rican, but I am also myself. So, you're saying that if I was born in Puerto Rico, could speak spanish, like spanish food that it makes me more of a PR? Then what am I ? American? No one is just American, not unless you're native american.

  • @TheIllusion4you you're american NOT puerto rican. the only culture you know is american culture, as that is what you grew up in.

    here to help....

  • @broersz American culture is not ALL I know. I'm more comfortable with American cultures, yes, I grew up in it, but I'm not completely excluded from my other culture. I am American, but I'm also Puerto Rican. PR is my subculture. What I'm trying to get through is language, birthplace, traditions, food, accents, what have you all contributes to oneself. BUT if one is deprived from their culture it shouldn't take away from them. It's apart of who they are.

  • @TheIllusion4you i have 2 uncles (my mothers brothers) who moved to america when they were in their late teens early twenties. they are now completely americanised and can not (in my eyes) be classed as welsh or celtic. they're americans. but im not going to deny your right to be puerto rican, even if you have never lived there. good luck mate and stay proud.

  • @broersz The celtic people were mercenaries for hire, back in the day of Kings and Queens, and traveled all over the world. Did that make them any less celtic?

  • @muslimangel7 if they stayed in the countrys they moved to and took up their way of life, yes it did make them less celtic.

  • beautiful :)

  • makes me weep for days long gone.

    i wish i was irish.

  • you could look at your ancestry line

  • i love my celtic music living in dublin jus makes it better ie

  • my cousin made me listen to this cd when he got. i honestly thought i would hate it. but its one of my favorite tunes now. XD

  • I actually haven't been to Walmart in around a year, but I went in today to wander around because I had nothing better to do, and I happened across the little CD demo thing when entranced into an aisle by really good smelling candles. I really liked what I heard, and bought the CD immediately. Was not disappointed.

  • Funny part is that this isn't even my kind of music. I usually listen to rock, metal, or country, with rare forays into techno. Yet I absolutely loved this CD.

  • I know! I have diverse tastes too! :) It is lovely isn't it? and aren't those candles so captivating? lol! That isle always keeps me!

  • @SirKrossLancer Third that :) Listened to metal all my life and love this album

  • @SirKrossLancer Me too! I usually listen to rock or metal or anything that sounds good...but I heard this in Walmart and like...fell inlove with song

  • @pippirippi89 samething lol kinda funny

  • My wife who is from Ireland said she played this at her bachiloret party. But I got a e-mail that she accualy payed "Rudolph The Deep Throat Reindeer" I looked it up on youtube and was horrified at what it was. I got a good guess as to what went on there. But I still lover her much. But what she dosn't know is that a friend brought some...american entertainment to my party. So we're basicly even. * note to self, place hidden camera at daughters bachiloret party.*

  • I do rock out to this in Walmart. Though it's weird how everyone can hear the same song, from the same source... different stores exactly the same, no matter where they are... lol

  • lol! I agree! haha! Perhaps it's a conspiracy set out to give the world better music... :)

  • @CelticMusings

Well, I hope they keep on that conspiracy...because these days music is terrible (cough cough...justin bieber)

  • @pizzaleon

haha! I agree! :D typically I'm all for embracing all music, but his is just a special type of awful.. :)
