My idol without a doubt, prob the reason i gave up playing key's in a band. Had the privilege of meeting him on his last tour, and to be honest, he's as sound as his music.
@eurochrissy2 a tuned bass isn't directly as pristine as a CD recording. Being out of tune is just a fucked up situating that also gets MK in a bad mood.
I never understood why Mark hardly ever uses a breakdown like at 4:00 to tune his bass. The Jaydee gets out of tune so quickly and he's fiddling with harmonics anyway. Bad ears?
I love going back to the 80's! Class! Loved the slap bang bass infused with all of the other elements goin on. Funky! Not many bands out there, all be it a few, that can play this good livethese days! Cheers! : )
I haven't seen this in years. I must still have this on a video at my mums. Which reminds me. I must dig out the video I've got of Mark on Night Network. I'm surprised that it doesn't appear to be on the net.
when british bands still could play their instruments and sing like pros..now it's just bunch of 3 chord, 4/4 beat ,whining, yelping bozos with untuned instruments.....with the exception of bands like radiohead., which are great...
They really seem to be at the top of their game here... not to say that I don't like the new lineup. But, they are so polished, tight and groovin between 1985-1987. Man, this rocks!!
@mookie2637 LOL lol lol!!! The first time I saw a picture of Mark King when my Dad introduced me to Level 42 I thought the exact same thing. Well I'm sure MK can do more damage with his JD than that German tank commander do with his Tiger tank! Great film anyways!!!!!
saw them in SFX Dublin back in '85, blew us away, way ahead of the scene....errr would think ...Stanley Clarke... would have a few words to say about Bass Terry!
@Simto From the hundreds of guitar students 12 to 18 years old I've taught over the past ten years, (who love Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Earth, Wind and Fire, Aerosmith, The Beatles, Bob Marley, etc., and "hate" the current stuff), I estimate that in 5 or 10 years, a lot will discover great bands like Level 42 as well!
@JayDee11 yup and they wonder why he does'nt bring the jaydee back . lovely looking basses no doubt . but that's what u get 4 using 30 gauge stings, bad tuning. graphite helps
@MrDiscordinated Do you think it has something to do with transmitting the sound in such a lg venue? The Jaydee bass has gorgeous tone, it may just be that the sound equipment (digital) cannot capture it's analog fullness.

Amazing that Mark can be such a great bass player, but also find time to act as the German tank commander in Kelly's Heroes.

This track was one of the inspirations for me to set up my own indie record label.
Pure raw talent by Level42 makes them one of the best 80s bands ever.
Tight clever rifts, hooks galore and the best bass player in the world - no one has yet touched them for excellence in this league.

@TURTLEMUSIC5 I feel bad for kids nowadays who don't have bands like Level 42 to grow up to.

@SHOJMPR42 It's the tunning of his jaydee that's the issue , not the sound .the sound is awesome :)
