  • What recommendations would you give to someone who is completely new to art? I'm incredibly interested in having this as a profession but I don't know where to begin. I find it hard to believe that I can just copy someone off youtube and get the same result because I'm clueless when it comes to painting levels and shadows. Are there any online tutorials where you can start learning how to draw, in preparation for education? What educations are good for starters? Thank you!

  • @EleventhReign For start? Draw 4-10 hours everyday. Life drawing at least once a week. Once you are comfortable with drawing then start painting (digital is easier and less prep. Tradition takes more time if you have some to free up.)

  • 1:40 WHT THE FCK!

    10:00 HOLY F*CK!!!

  • U LEARN ME HOW TO DRAW!!! GOD BLESS U!!!! U ONE OF THE MOST GOOD MEN ON OUR PLANET!!!!

  • @homasya LOL, I wish. Thanks.

  • @idrawgirls UR DANISH?! HOLY ****

  • I LOVE your work and watching your videos is inspirational. It makes me want to draw everyday and practice. I do traditional art but do have a Genius tablet and a program called Artweaver. It is a free paint program that works like Corel Painter. Do you use that or have any experience with that program so that if I have a question about brushes or something I could ask you? Your videos online look really cool. Once finances allow I'd like to buy one of your courses. Are you doing any in oils?

  • @SleepyMushroomFairy Check out Gimp(dot)Org it's free and good.

  • lol i love these videos but their not friendly to new users like me. I currently use Gimp until i can affored photoshop.

  • @Chuckleslikestolaugh wow your actually not pirating . there is still faith in humanity

  • And, while coloring, I pick yellow, and then I give a ride to the brush on my pic, but the only thing I have after it is a mass of colour which does not make any sense... The part until the coloring is ood, but when I try to colour, I fail... So what should I do, any advice? =)

  • That's where I learned the logic of doing art with photoshop :D thanks for this speed draw!

  • Is this one for download in high resolution some where?

  • for your next video can you draw a protoss dark templar from starcraft 2

  • great show !respect:D draw all classes diablo tyrael monsters etc:) draw Winged Hussar - Polish heavy cavalry:)

  • hey man, could you please send me useful articles? cheers :)

  • Cool picture.

please help with the choice of a tablet) Wacom Bamboo Pen to draw a good model?

(Sorry for my English, I use translator)

  • @Pecheneg19 Oh, and I just got a wacom bamboo pen and touch for christmas .. i LOVE it! its so good, runs smoothly, is a big enough size, and are not too expensive. Its my first tablet and I think you should go for one.

  • i must confess that i draw anime or manga, but lately i started to try with realistic, your videos are a really big help, thanks, you blog is awesome btw.

    sorry for the english

  • I have a question.

    Wacom intuos4 n cs5

everytime I use the eyedropper to pick a color for instances a "blue," and on my primary and secondary swatches, it only shows the blue on the secondary. So every single time I have to manually switch the secondary color to my primary color swatch.

  • @ericl3414 You might want to check your setting, something is not right.

  • @ericl3414 you can change from your secondary and primary swaches with the x key :)

  • @pijadehueso25 thanks, I actually figured out how to fix the problem. I found a couple of forums online that quite a few people have the same problem with unanswered questions. But, I found a post about it. All I had to do was just to go to Window>Color, and a windows appear switching the outline foreground swatches with the primary. I don't remember switching them though... Thanks though :D I'll keep that in mind.

  • good job, that was im looking for! :D

  • @SimeonS93

Do real life drawing, or copy from photos. Draw people, or household objects (bottles, cups), and practice this daily. Try drawing in black and white first, to learn how values create depth.

  • @SimeonS93

Digital painting is not about layerwork or opacity changes or those kind of photoshop-specific things. It's about knowing where light hits and shadows fall, how shapes form and texture is applied.

It does help to have some knowledge of photoshop brushes and layers to aid you in your painting, but you don't need it to make a good painting.

There is no right or wrong way to do it. You learn more from a conceptual tutorial than from a step-by-step, paint-by-numbers tutorial.

  • @Flup2 True to that. ;-)

  • @SimeonS93 If you are expecting to learn everything you want to know in one video then I can't help you. Others are improving because they watch every one of them and they are patience. Check your inbox for useful articles.

  • @idrawgirls would it be possible if you can send me those artice as well please

  • @92blackops No problem. ;-)

  • I always wanted to know that, how did you do these pictures. Are you using a digital draw pad or just the mouse, couse it's looks awesome, and I want to try it too. And what kind of photoshop do you use? Sry if I've made mistakes, but I'm hungarian. pls answer thx, and keep up the good work! ;)

  • @dieselszalmahuszar It would be really funny if all the pros in game studio use mouse to draw and paint. I bet a lot of them would end up in hospital for surgery too because of Repetitive strain injury (RSI). Because Mouse isn't made for drawing. I rather use pencil or paint brushes. Stay away from mouse when draw, expecially if you draw everyday and +4 hours a day. Surgery will cause you way more than a tablet. peace!

  • Ow and BTW, what are you doing with the opacity here. I see that when you draw the brushes get over each other. If you put a Background here would you be able to see it trough the character?

  • @dezard36 Check your inbox for useful articles I send you.

  • This actually really helped me . It's an awesome video. The lighting was the biggest problem for me and now i try to use what i learned here and it helps.

  • @dezard36 No problem, glad it helps.

  • Hi! i really want to learn to draw on photoshop.

i'm a beginner what tablet do you suggest i get??

  • @colbysheaclonts Wacom intuo series ;-) Never fail me.

  • Do u use photoshop?

  • @lukesrz Yep.

  • why you don't start with color in first time?

  • @MegaSpidey89 If I am better than I am now I would. Or if I have reference, then yes I would. Or if I am in life drawing session, then yes I would. ;-)

  • OMG! you're awesome ;]

  • hey could you paint a brute with a axe hammer with a really cool background from the video game Halo hehe that would be pure awesomeness......

  • how did you color it without touching the lights and dark values?? and btw i deleted the links for the brushes to soon sorry could there be any chance you send them again please:) just the links and some info on how you colored without touching lights and darks and thank God i got the pressure sensitive working.....

  • press pauze

    press play

press 8 and 9 to make her wave

  • Hey man, could you please send me a link to some help on overlay and colouring paintings? Thanks so much :)

  • @idrawgirls me to please ?

  • @bprincesapp1 for the overlay and colouring help

  • can you make a tutorial for doing this on paper?

  • @idrawgirls cz i find values to be pretty hard to do on paper.....and it would be really helpful if u could.

  • @TheAccursedkiller There are other video on my channel using solely pencil. This is a speedpainting digital painting tutorial, not pencil drawing and rendering. Sure you can use pencil but it won't look the same. ;-)

  • Respond to this video... ok thanks for the help im going to start digital painting :P

  • can someone please explain to me what is this circle that appers around his cursor most of the time in the video ?

  • @hristofromnowhere color picker in cs5, why is it relevant?

  • how do you go from going darker to suddenly going lighter? (ie. light to dark then switch to dark to light)

  • @Yourname942 Paint over it.

  • 18 tiers of gear, with each piece having randomized stats? i doubt you will ever find tier 18 gearset to perfectly patch? your character.eh.Eh.h.eheh.Eh ƒréé 200 $ GameC ,, ggggamestop and diabbbbllo iii original copy --- chEck nowww wwwDOTdiablo3landDOTcom

  • how long did this take real time pls? great work btw

  • @ItachiHurst 45 mins give and take...

  • nice job IdrA w/ Girls

  • @SeekHunt1334 thx

  • im wondering, how do you go about opacity and flow? u play with it alot or plain 100%(probably not 100% hehe) thanks in advance

  • @erezkz Low then high in the final to avoid muddy.

  • Thank you for your time and for sharing your knowledge. My question is about copy right laws and portfolios. I notice you use a lot of popular characters in your videos. I am trying to build up my portfolio so I can publish my web site and wanted to know is it okay to use popular characters (my own original drawings of them) and is that something that people want to see in a concept artists portfolio? P.S. I love your art and thank you for your thoughtful responses.

  • @llfrieghttrain Tips...change hair style, add a bit of armor then change the name for portfolio. But the employers don't really care, they only care if you are good fit for the job!!! People do commission drawing all the time, as long as you don't mass product it for profit, you are fine. Mine is educational purpose for all. ;-)

  • Did you use a tablet or a mouse?

  • @Taurshien Tablet? What's with the mouse? This is already 21th century.

  • @idrawgirls Lol 21th, xD 21st*

  • @Azza1070 LOL, my bad. ;-)

  • @idrawgirls Naa it's ok, you're a great digital artist and you're one of many inspirations that not only I follow, that other people I have told you about do as well. Keep up the tutorials, these game/movie characters get me very interested. :D

  • @Azza1070 Thx ;-)

  • @idrawgirls Am I to understand that you used a tablet to draw this then?

If you used a mouse to draw this than you definitely have skill, if you used a tablet well then you've got money sir!, Because anyone who wants to get into digital art or any kind of technologically assisted creativity knows that tablets in the 21th century are VERY EXPENSIVE!

  • @Taurshien The first tablet I got is FREE when I got hired at Disney Int. I draw on pencil and paint in gauche and oil before computer. Then from there companies after companies give you tablet for free if you get hired. ;-) Mouse isn't made for drawing, you are better off with pencil.

  • @idrawgirls I see. I use pencil crayons and they're a pain, mostly because I don't draw enough but thats all I'll put up with. However seeing as how easy it is to correct mistakes and make adjustments to your work with your tablet I thought tablets are the best tools to use, providing its the kind of tablet that acts like a screen allowing you to see what your drawing on, because I used a tablet that was just a plain standard and it was useless for drawing on!

What kind of Tablet do you use?

  • @Taurshien Wacom intuo series. The best ever! The Wacom cintique is over hype.

  • Please do more Diablo inspired art pieces! perhaps other classes

  • Dude this is awesome job! Keep it way ;)

  • HOOOOOOH. Yeur art skeers havuh shamed mai honah. Prease, takuh mai raif.

  • Any chance of you sharing your brushes? I mean, zip it all and upload it. I guess it would help a LOT everyone. :)

Your videos are awesome. You helped alot with some issues that I had with digital painting, so thank you.

  • @LtheHedgehog They are on my blog. Have you check? I won't tell you where they are because I want you to read a lot of stuff on there. ;-)

  • @idrawgirls Haha, yeah I checked it after wrote this comment. My bad. They will help alot, thank you so much (and yeah, I read a lot of stuff there too). :)

  • Hhhhuuuhaa :S Bunny hunter was it? HAWT!

  • shouldn't it be a daemon huntRESS? O.o

  • that is a very large woman...i think her shoulders are broader than a big male.

  • @idrawgirls

i have a pickup artist friend who's also a game artist. He uses his iPad to impress chicks, draws them right in front of them as they're conversing, then draws them naked to turn them on haha.

  • Holy shit, I did not expect it to look that good when I saw the beginning. It looked like it would be a rough sketch, but ended up looking amazing.

  • I take it you use a drawing pad for it?

  • Very nice vid, can't wait for the game to come out as well :)

Quick question though, on my own speedpaint vids the video can become jumpy when being sped up. Yours doesn't do that, what settings / file formats do you encode to?

  • great artwork

  • what brushes did u use ?

  • please can you make a video on ezio from assassins creed brotherhood?

  • how many hours?

  • @WOSP92 1 hr 20 some minutes. That's why it is called speedpainting or under-painting. Anything more than one session (sitting) is more of a illustration.

  • Another great tutorial man, thanks alot. I love how you handle the values throughout your paintings.

Also a quick question about values, I notice you make her armour look metallic straight from the start, but I cant see how you handle the values any differently on different materials. Have you got any tips or advice on how to handle values differently for metal as opposed to skin, cloth etc?

  • Very awesome job sir, Diablo 3 is going to be AMAZING!!

  • hablo solo mirando tus videos !!!!!! es imprecionante. Tu vives de los dibujos o algo ???

  • how did you learn all of this did you have to go to university or just keep drawing on photoshop like how did you get this far

  • Thanks for the replies!

How do you choose your primary and secondary colors in your paintings?

    Do you use a formula?

  • @jakedamus111 I'd imagine that just comes from understanding color theory, which in a sense is a formula I guess

  • her right arm... it's huge...

  • @konichiwa8e Do you want to fix it for me? ;-)

  • @idrawgirls i meant she's buff as hell lol. there's nothing to fix haha

  • @konichiwa8e It's probably the shoulder pads that make it looks gigantic. Whatever is underneath, we don't see. If I make her head a bit bigger, then it would fit better ;-)

  • @konichiwa8e she has one demon arm u no0b!

  • Is that a photoshop shade wheel that pops up? Is that a plugin? And what is the quick key? Do you use quick keys on your wacom?

  • @jakedamus111 In CS5 it has this annoying function that show us what color we picked from color picker. As if we really need to know the exact RGB value. It kind of useful, but rather a bit annoying to watch. Wonder if I could turn it off. FYI I only use shortcut key from keyboard.

  • i have a question. did you use multiple layers for this? like one layer for shading and a separate layer for colouring? or did you just speedpaint on one layer?

  • i wonder if you use reference material, or its drawing from the mind. or you did it so many times so you know the armor parts etc. ? you helped me a lot with your vids btw, thank you a lot.

  • Amazing!!!

  • gorgeous drawing! though her arm seems a bit off ^^

  • Thank you.

  • damn man lol xD cool

  • For anyone who is afraid of spending a little money on buying any of the tutorials on i drawgirls(dot)com I gotta say I have tried the Dark Warrior male concept tutorial and it is worth the money. You guys will not be dissatisfied. He explains things well and even offers brushes and a color palette for skin tones and such. the fantasy dark warlord picture with the spiky helmet.

I know 16 bucks sounds like a lot but I can say this vid is long and well worth it. I know I am happy with it.

  • uuuh amazing!!

I love how you make this atmosphere with these colours.. *__*

she looks dangerous but I'm not scared... dunno, hard to explain :D can't look away, this is art *__*

  • How or what is it that you use to make joints like the knee of elbow look realistic while the arm or leg is bent?

  • i love watching you make these. so helpful, thanks man!

  • Man I remember you when you first started out here. You are doing an awsome job man. Keep it up.

  • Hey idrawgirls i am still a kid but i would like to get into this since i love to draw can u link me what you use? and the tell me what over layer means i am new to computer programs have always used pencile and paper hehe please message me back

  • Ty and good job.

I dont like so much the armor color, i think is better something more dark. I love the eyes color.

And i think it would be better if u put a hood on his head

Anyway i give a thumb up!

  • you should make a video on how to easily correct mistakes like when you fixed the arm at the end it just sorta showed it finished. I would like to see how you properly erase and/or paint over to fix it. I would also like to know when do you make a new layer or do you just paint on one layer the whole time? Do you have a beginning layer for the gestures and skeletal drawings and then make a layer for the final product?

  • @Th3AngryGam3r It's more difficult when you are trying to think and spot quick fix. I would just let the camera roll for like half hour or more without touching the canvas. Easier said than done. Don't forget that there are thinking involve since I have no reference. I wish I could... ;-)

  • @idrawgirls have you ever thought of doing a live stream? You should do some live streams on Justin.tv. I would totally watch you!

  • @Th3AngryGam3r Why do a live stream when it can live forever on youtube, even long after I die. ;-)

  • @idrawgirls it is a whole new level of getting involved with your viewers and fans. You can read and write to them live while painting. They can watch and observe. It is like comparing watching tutorial videos as opposed to taking an art class. I definitely would enjoy it myself. You can even use it to help promote the videos you have for sale too. Well, just a thought. if you ever find yourself interested let me know and I will be your first follower.

  • Really well done, I tried my hand at an original diablo 3 speed painting (still lying around on youtube) but it turned out somewhat amateurish, check it out if you have the time and keep up the great work!

  • just bought a nice but budget bamboo wacom tablet from newegg. I am an artist but I am not too familiar with painting. I know you have vids to buy on your site but I am not a rich fellow. Can you make a video just explaining important things noobies at painting should know and follow? I know about choosing good references with good lighting and such but brush settings and stuff is important and techniques are also important. When do you know you messed up beyond fixing a painting?

  • @Th3AngryGam3r I wish I could give them all away for free. But it is not about that. It's humans nature. It's about the extra effort one is willing to take. People will pay more attention and spend more time with things they invest in. On the other hand, things that are giving away for FREE. More often than not, perceive as less value. If one is willing to make an effort to get what they have to invest, he/she is already making an advance by cheer willing to succeed and they will.

  • @idrawgirls i got you tutorial vid for free just cause im 2 young and dont have credit card but if i was 18 it pay for it but yeah sorry my parents wouldnt spend money on a video

  • @XerxesBreak112 If you are too young, you don't need to advance tutorial yet. There are +200 video on my channel and +300 blog post, you can go take a look at those. ;-)

  • @idrawgirls thanks :D

  • @Th3AngryGam3r Watch FZD school of designs videos, which shows you some of the basics and gives you great tips on switching from traditional to digital painting.

  • tyvm...watching your videos and tutorial i learnt values, but i have still problems whit brushes xD

  • @n30sp4rk Focus on value and edges, not brushes. You can use just the default and pull off something amazing. Trust me, don't trust them brushes. It is all in the execution.

  • god bless u!!!! (bow)

  • calling your work amazing is not enough...

  • @ArGeNeration your work can be just as amazing if you want !

  • @itchcitizen2 yeah i am drawing myself a bit, but only with pencil and i am still faaar far away from your level. gonna chase you tho`!

  • Holy shit..this is awesome :d

  • Very awesome, I've learned a lot from your videos.

  • Dope ! i take notes.

  • Very cool!

  • Wow 3rd comment! lol

    But Rlly cool!! ;D

  • I love the eye's transformation, great addition to masterpiece :D

  • awesome work again :)
