I'm on the fence between this and a Nook Color for my girlfriend. She wants a low-end laptop but I think a tablet would be best for her. But she is going to go to school soon and I think the Archos can hook up a keyboard, so it would allow her to type papers but the reviews on the Archos are kinda up and down. Not sure what would be best for her. Any help? Right now they are about the same price.

@door2doorman no, it doesn't have any built-in 3G cards. try mifi for this gadget. wifi is very limited, doesn't hurt. if you know nothing about network, google is your answer, learning your basics there is good for you

@aanujj The mobile world is not ready yet for 1080p. Files are too big, sd cards too small, 3g too slow etc. It'll come though^^ give it another 2-3 years and everything will be 1080p. And higher makes kinda no sense... Our eyes wont pick it up anyway.

@jbcoker They said they want 3G USB internet dongles to work. Not sure current firmware supports it. And don't know how hard or how long it might take them to support all usb internet dongles.

@jhuerta93 Yes, just find this file on Google: gApps4Archos.apk and it takes you 1 minute to install. I estimate about 99% of the 100'000 apps in the Google Marketplace work just fine.

@cambiasso79 You can do GPS on it in different ways. Through WiFi (when in densely populated areas), through Mifi or Bluetooth tethering. There are Bluetooth GPS adapters which are already confirmed to work with it.

@DubDubDUbAhhhhhh Typing is always going to be better with a real keyboard, no matter which tablet you want. Archos supports both Bluetooth and USB keyboards. So for typing your essays, I recommend you get a nice compact and flat keyboard as well.

Really impressive. I suppose Tegra based tablets will be even nicer but you can't buy them yet and how nice does it need to be anyway? This looks like the tablet I'd buy to keep close to the TV for quick email checks or adding movies to netflix. Good for short trips too although I would probably bring a windows laptop in that case.

@Celeon999A Yes it can play all files from USB host, it can also play all files from Samba and Upnp local file sharing. And usually it can also stream most formats from the web browser streaming over the Internet.

Hi, the market4archos.apk does only work on the older 5 machines of archos. A new gen of machines will require new *.apk files..... I guess... please respond Charbax! While this does look impressive, it will still need a hack to access the android Market as it's not 3G. And just from looking at it in this video there is significant lag when moving between home screens. Google has even said android isn't yet ready for tablet use.

I would really love this tablet under my Christmas tree this year but I just feel like it will be outdated in a matter of months.

My advice is to buy an iPad if u want a fully featured tablet or wait another year for a better sup

@ChrisWalker2k Installing the Google Marketplace is not a hack, it's an app, just find the market4archos.apk and click once from the file browser to install it. Screen and firmware in this video is not yet finalized, in this video its running Android 2.1 beta, next month when it ships it'll have Android 2.2 which is 5 times faster than 2.1 for apps and UI.

the smaller ones will have a resistive touchscreen, only the bigger ones will have a capacitive touchscreen. The rest I don't know.

1) No they will not come with dvr docks you will have to purchase them separately for $99.99.

2) The 101 has 1024x600 pixels and 43 has 480x854 pixels, but 101 is WXVGA which is better and 43 is FWVGA. Audi playback in 101 is 5.1 and in 43 it is stereo obviously that means that 101 has better sound quality. 101 has webcam as well where as 43 does not has webcam.

3) these will be available in states in October 2010

The specs are up on the Archos site, just google Archos 101.

Basically, it has 720p, a front camera, supports a shiet load of video and audio formats, USB, HDMI, a base memory of 8GB, and 10 hours of web browsing. I am getting this for sure.
