  • i bought a 66 dollar big ben pipe as my first, is it a good pipe, i haven't smoked it yet :P

  • good job you corrected me on something I already knew, you probably feel cool now

  • no your not actually

  • @sk8r4lif3luke You should have paid more attention in school. "your" is possessive, what you meant to say is "you're".

  • @sk8r4lif3luke

dont hate on the pipe guru, its bad karma

  • I agree with this guy about inhaling I find it kills the taste too

  • why is sex tagged in this?

  • @sk8r4lif3luke Well, .... because I'm such a sexy beast obviously! LOL

  • where do you live?

  • @sniper0diper In a hobbit hole, deep under ground.

  • @SmokeRingsPipeDreams Can you tell me if it is a small town you live in? My life ambition is too move away from Boston, into a small town and live like an old lady for the rest of m life.

  • @sniper0diper I live in a smallish town in Montana, but don't recommend it. Find someplace small but warm!

  • Personally, i went from smoking a pack a day to smoking a pipe (inhaling). To me, if you don't inhale, you don't get the full effect of the nicotine. But that's just me.

  • if you dont inhale a pipe, then what is it actually doing for you if anything. is it like smoking a cig where you get a kind of high or is it just for the flavor of smoking the tabacco?

  • @memyselfandi337 There is the flavor, but also you absorb the nicotine through your mouth which gives you a nice calming feeling rather than the rush that cigs provide.

  • For the record; I have only the knowledge of my Grandfather's case. He smoked a pipe from his late teens (1930's) until 1980. In 1980 he went to the dentist for a routine check up. The dentist was examining some spots on his gums and said, "well, you don't have cancer yet." Grandpa put the pipe down and never picked it up again. He did not develop lung cancer and is now in his late 80's. I do not know if he puffed of inhaled. Just wanted to share with you. not trolling.

  • @comichound No probs, that's why I don't smoke every day or inhale. I want it to be a pleasent hobby, not an addiction.

    Cheers,

    Kel

  • @SmokeRingsPipeDreams I gotta say, I've watched some of your quasi-political commentaries, I think we would be pretty good friends in real life. Love the videos; very informative.

  • @comichound Wait...your grandpa smoked a pipe for 50 years (well into his sixties) and never had a side-effect? That's an argument for pipe smoking.

  • @Charismanglican That's illogical. One does not necessarily cause the other. I can just as easily say that he would have had better health had he never smoked. Also, he is still alive; he's blind, diabetic, and riddled with heart disease, but he's still alive. P.S. He drinks coffee ever day but that doesn't make Folgers the fountain of youth.

  • @comichound I was joking. I merely meant that smoking a pipe is probably a lot less bad for your health than living in a modern constructed home or driving a car.

  • thank you so much for these videos, seriously.

also, wherever you are, its beautiful. It's the kind of place I'd want to get away and relax

  • @TheTacticalTiger It's just a league or two from Rivendale. :)

  • know the healthiest way. stop using it ;)

  • Puffing is great, you get the flavor just without the buzz.

  • @sk8r4lif3luke correction you will some buzz because the nicotine absorbs through your gums, mouth and saliva, but you won't get as intense of a buzz if you don't inhale however there are a few pipe tobacco out there like Irish flake and rope tobacco that even if you never inhale them you will feel very dizzy, sick and shaking

  • I must agree that ex/current cigarette smokers are the people who inhale a pipe. I talk to folks around here and they say they inhale and all of the other pipe smokers they know inhale. That is because most of the people around here smoke cigs. I will opt to not inhale which is how I think a pipe should be enjoyed.

  • when the hell are you going to get to how to actually smoke a pipe?? your talking about everything except how to smoke one?

  • @vacholino I'm doing this series so I can answer the most common questions I get from people wanting to smoke a pipe. The first section is dedicated to getting that first pipe and other things. Section two will be about packing, tamping, avoiding tongue bite etc.

  • im trying to get off of cigarettes. i currently use an e-cig and i smoke maybe 2 mini cigars per day, although i still inhale. i was smoking over a pack of cigarette per day. i have been thinking about buying a pipe. i figure if i want to inhale i will inhale vapor to get my nicotine fix. i think i would like a pipe because they have a great aroma and they often times have a great taste

  • 0:55-1:00 Or............... you could just stop smoking all together.

  • @chrishasaclue There's always one

  • Good video Kel, I typically smoke 2 pipes a day or 1 pipe and 1 cigar I considered that very moderate. I use nasal snuff also but that has a 400+ year history of use with zero risks of cancer so that's different

    Evan/BOTS

  • This guys has such a solid approach towards smoking pipes.

  • Why do wives hate pipes so much? Isn't it the healthiest way of smoking tobacco?

  • @Edude117 I love pipes, that's why I smoke them.

  • @Edude117 excuse me but healthiest way to smoke tobacco is Hookah/Shisha/waterpipe

  • I'm gonna say now I will be comment multiple times on videos to come with questions and thoughts. Sunday afternoon what better time?

  • Thank you for making this video...I've just started smoking, bad yes, but I've been using self-rolled cigarettes using pipe tobacco...which I've been inhaling. I'm feeling the addiction, which is terrible...but I think I'm at that point where I can stop with only minor headaches. I've always thought the idea of smoking a pipe to be kind of relaxing and bought my first one this morning.

  • Some people ask "What is the point?' to pipe and cigar smoking and "What does it do for you?"

The best answer I can give them is that it is "the taste and smell". I can liken it to using certain woods to smoke and flavor food when grilling or barbbqing or using incense to make a room smell pleasing.

Smelling smoke aromas is actually a very sensual experience and that is what makes it enjoyable. There are also the ritual aspects of selecting tobacco, lighting it, etc. that make it pleasurable.

  • @vibrationmatch I agree with you, the aroma (for me) is a huge part of it.

  • Hi sir, i smoke occasionally the hookah. few weeks a go i found a pipe in the house and i started getting intrested in smoking the pipe and i did a bit research on it. you see my problem is just because i'm used too the hookah, i dont know how not to inhale.

    do you have any advise?

    Shaya

  • @wtfomgbbqrfl With a pipe you suck the smoke into your mouth as you would water through a straw, but instead of swallowing you just blow it out.

  • how do you really puff the pipe do just like suck for a second then let the smoke go to your mouth or do you blow to get the tobacco to burn then wait for the smoke to go through the pipe?

  • @RandomThoughtChanger I just puff. Though some blow out to stoke the fire if it is going out. I don't do this because i believe it makes the pipe to hot. And burns the tobacco to hotly as well.

  • @SmokeRingsPipeDreams well i met how do you get it so the smoke gets to you mouth?

  • Nice! I like how you are in control and know that you don't have to be "addicted" to smoke, you can have a nice, enjoyable smoke here and there without feeling a need to smoke. Do you believe this to be the same with a cigar since you are also just puffing and not inhaling?

  • @Danaphobe In my case it is, though I can't speak for everyone of course.

  • hi, i just ordered a Ardor Meteora Fantasy Red/Brown 191 Pipe for 296, bucks and i was wondering do you know of any good pipe tobacco companys? p.s. i love your videos, your really giving me a new perspective on pipie smoking. u are now +1 subscriber, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

  • @JonAltemose1 Thanks Jon, I do a tobacco rec video later on in this series. Also there are also lots of pipe tobacco reviews by other people in the pipe community which you will find very help full. Glad you're enjoying my vids!

    Cheers,

    Kel

  • so question...what does your wife thinka bout smoking the pipe?

  • @metachozoite She gave me a choice, .. either her, ... or the pipe. (I miss her sometimes)

  • @SmokeRingsPipeDreams This man chose a pipe over a woman.

I am unsure if I should be proud of him or disappointed in him.

    Help me out here

  • @TheLemonGrenade I think you should worship me like the god I am!!! LOL

  • @SmokeRingsPipeDreams Any conflicting suggestions?

    Any takers at all?

    No?

    Welp.

Looks like my decision is made them.

    AAAWWWWW YEEEEAAAAA

  • Looking forward to the rest of your videos. Just took up the pipe and got my first Peterson and have a Castello Sea Rock on the way. Which btw, your pipe in this video is amazing! Thanks for your efforts and time in putting these videos together.

  • @benjaminpotter Thank you so much for the nice comment. It's good to be appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Kel

  • Can it give you gum cancer?

  • Im 18years old and I used to stretch my ears But i am joining the airforce now and I can no longer do that I've always loved pipe smoking but i've never tryed and its slowly wearing on me im anxious to give it a shot

  • Then whats the point?

  • lol, you might as well take a sip of beer and then spit it out. I just hope he's not wasting weed like that!

  • @MurkMenthaa Hhahaha i know rite? xD!

  • ...and cancer is not a well understood disease, so there really are no precautions you can take aside from refraining from smoking. That being said, there are many other habits people engage in that cause oral and throat cancer, such as drinking alcohol. At the end of the day, you do what you feel good about, and taking all the joys out of life to extend it by several years is a choice that people have to make. There are plenty of people that live to an old age having smoked like a chimney.

  • You may not be intentionally inhaling the smoke, but the fact is, smoke lingers, as it is heavier than air, and therefore you cannot expel all the smoke from your mouth. Also the smoke lingers around your face, so unless you stop breathing for the entire time you smoke the pipe you will inhale the smoke, maybe not to the same extent as directly from the pipe but still inhaling none the less. Finally oral and throat cancers are possible...

  • Man shit.

  • theres no shame if you dont inhale i puffed on cigarettes a little while back and now i just use pipes and cigars keep the moderation smoking going. God bless

  • It's a strange phenomenon. I smoke cigarettes as well as a pipe. I obviously inhale the cigarettes, but have never felt the need to inhale a pipe, I just savour the taste. Wish I had started with a pipe all those years ago and never tried those little white sticks!

    cheers, Alan

  • When I first tried a pipe, I felt it made it easier to not inhale rather than a cigar. My friend, who is a cigarette smoker, tried a pipe and was amazed at how great it was and also said its seems easier to not inhale with a pipe rather than a cigar.

  • But I love to inhale it. Feel so creamy goind down!

  • great video but loose the beard

  • the point is, oral cancer happen to ( can) everyone even or often (while my clinical-universty year) to people who never touched a Pipe Cigar/ette nor drunk any alcohol !

No body is save ! Smoke does kill of bacteria too, but its of corse not healthy either. Puffing has few negative effects on you system and if you worry bout Life. expectancy pipesmokers (due to the mental fitness most thend to have and the more relaxed lifestyle ) live on average 2YEARS LONGER !)

    Cheers

    Sam

  • your videos are absolutley amazing! continue with this!! realy calm and relaxing! really god! thanx!

i hope you the best from sweden!

  • Good vid Kel I never ihale I usually puff every other day one day out of each week I smoke pretty much all day long. Never even tried cigarettes

  • I inhale~ I can't lie. I enjoy the puffing, but I do inhale~ now, when I was a cigarette smoker I inhaled all day long. When I smoke a pipe, I inhale at random. I can feel the difference between the ciagette rush and a pipe nicotine kick~

Frankly, the cigarettes are not real tobacco to me, so much processing going on that it is a different form of tobacco.

    Cheers

    Ruben~

  • Excellent advice, Kel. Keep puffin' away!

  • Even as a former cigarette smoker, I've never had any problems NOT inhaling when smoking a pipe. I use filters of course, but I don't think of them as anything but a moisture trap to help preventing a bit of the old tongue bite.

Great new series Kel. I love the condensed format... not that I mind seeing your longer installments as well. :-)

    Cheers,

    -Mike

  • @Flieger671 They have to be condensed, holding the camera hurts my arm to much to talk more than a couple of minutes. (lucky for you guys) I should take that camera everywhere and film my whole life, then maybe I'd shut up once in a while. LOL

  • @SmokeRingsPipeDreams "... holding the camera hurts my arm to much to talk more than a couple of minutes..." Kel, I hear that there's a new invention out called a "tripod". It lets you mount the camera on a stand and you can film yourself without getting sore arms. :-) LOL!

  • As a former cigarette smoker I occasionally inhale, but every time it happens less and less. I would not even call it inhaling - tobacco smoke just walking on nasopharynx (?):-). I have no idea how to inhale twist type tobaccos or some Flake tobaccos. Good video Kel!

    Igor

  • Hi Kel, great series. I would like to see a video on pipe filters. Do you use filters? If yes, what type of filters, like Meerschaum or activated charcoal? I use the second alternative, 9mm, like you generally get them in Germany. Happy puffing and greetings to your evil twin! :D

  • @ProjectLiberty There is a video written about pipes with filters, but it will be down the pipeline a bit.

    Cheers,

    Kel

  • yea but its fun to light up like a cartoon character and work up a good vigor like a steam train when you smoke. and two minuts later your coughing and hacking like a lumberjack, and it messes up the tobacco and the pipe itself.

Its easy to do that with a hookah though, and that said it usually is inhaled though you smoke it very slowly I usually suck in lots of air when I do it and take short two second puffs and blow out like I am blowing out a candle.

  • YOU ARE STILL A VERY ATTRACTIVE MAN!

  • Good video.

  • Looks like it's gonna be a great comprehensive video series on the topic. I can't wait for the next one.

  • Great advice Kel!! I agree that pipe and cigar smoke should not be inhaled. I look forward to the next video in the series!

    -Matthew

  • @bahumutx Thanks Matthew, one more about risks and how to lower them, then I'm on to more fun stuff for this series.

    Cheers,

    Kel

  • Very cool, I love smoking pipes a few times a week just to get that pleasant taste and aroma. I just received 4 oz. of Boswell's Northwoods and it has definitely become my new favorite tobacco. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a heavy Latakia blend.

  • @tysalem94 Northwoods is one of the greats!

    Cheers,

    Kel
