  • Buckle up

  • JATO stands for jet assisted takeoff

  • @kelseygagirl21 Yep, but sadly it's over. Nov 14 is the last JATO flight Fat Albert will ever see. This is because JATO hasn't been used since Vietnam. They make C-130's with enough power to take off like this without JATO nowadays. I still think it sucks :(

  • But the Blue Angels has made this one of there trade marks that they do with all of their shows.... thats gonna be sad.. Fat Albert has always done that and when i went to a Blue Angels show and they did that its the main part of the show that i remember. I wish they would just keep it for the Blue Angels.... that sucks

  • Can't be very good for the airframe. At Dobbins in Marietta GA you often see the 130 pilots practicing "Baghdad bugouts", extreme takeoffs and landings without JATO - engines are probably twice as good as the originals.

  • Wtf is JATO?

  • i agree with that

  • LOL I will be very scared if i see one above me on midnight

  • haha man it almost goes straight vertical

  • It went up 45 Degrees. 90 degrees is vertical. It went half of vertical.

  • i wish i had been there to see that ,amazing !

  • I'm not sure whats better now.

The Blue Angels jet with afterburner?

    Or Fat Albert.

  • One way to look at it is the Blue Angles can't operate without Fat Albert ;).

  • THATS NICE AMAZING

but that isnt the original JATO system, this one is like more a mix of rockets, pyrotecnic and flares...

    source: old usaf pilot

    =)

    anyway, its amazing

  • Your probably right, I don't know for sure. It is an Air Show, so it would make sense for the added pyrotechnics.

Either way, it still looks cool and I'm sure the ride is cooler.

    Thank you

  • who is the old USAF pilot ??

I dont think they just strap on any old "mix of rockets".

  • I don't know who the "old USAF" pilot is, but he does have a good point. Like I said, it was during an Air Show, so I understand the use of pyrotechnics for that added "WoW" factor, but maybe they use different types for combat use without all the flares and sparkles coming out of the back of the rocket? If anyone knows, please feel free to comment....

  • nope, those are your standard JATO bottles, no extra pyro or special FX....they will still be used by LC-130's ski-equipped for Arctic/ Antarctic missions

  • We used JATOs on HC130's in Vietnam. Those looked like the real things. We had to use them if we suspected Viet Cong in the area. They loved to shoot at the HC130's so we liked to get as much altitude as possible over friendly terrain.

  • thats hella tight!

  • Yeah, that's pretty badass.

  • hercules é foda , tem que respeitar

  • Look at all that black smoke.

Al Gore is gonna' be pissed!

  • That almost looked like a B1 taking off..that was awesome!!

  • That pitch on the plane was amazing it must of been a pretty sweet ride on the inside !

  • SWEET→ nighttime is awesome--

  • just look at that...so beautiful, it brings tears to the eyes T_T bravo! 5/5

  • i was just at a blue angels show and fat albert didn't use the jets there. . . i feel ripped off!

  • Sorry to hear that, I got another of the Rockwell B1B "Lancer" taking off at night, got a what seems to be a 30 foot after-burner cones coming out the back, sweet

  • Do JATOs also allow for a steeper takeoff?

  • Yes they do and in reality that is really the only thing they are supposed to be used for. The steep take-off is in case they are a very short runway, like say for instance a jungle clearing. The JATO gives them enough speed and thrust to get the air speed they need to take-off safely, bad thing is that they are one time use, use it and lose it.

  • I have never heard of "The Blues" or anyone for that matter, performing in darkness...What were the circumstances of this cool video?

  • probably either for that emonstration or them going homeafter the show... they stay at a local airport when they come out to Long Island here and we can go watch them from a home epot parking lot at the nd of the runway lolol i got to see this typoe of takeoff its sick it looks almost as if they go straigh up like the f-18s lolol

  • watching this makes me want to fly the c-130. awesome video

  • it can never look any better at night time

  • i saw that when i was a kida nas miramar(now mcas miramar... it was awesome to say the least.

  • I want to do that!!!!!

  • seen that a few times in the day but not at night, very cool video!! Those little rockets really are powerful!!

  • yeah this is awesome too bad all of the c130's didn't have that :) anyway yeah I dont think people realize how loud the jets are until they really heat it.

  • Ubelievably awesome, unfortunately operational pilots dont get to experience this, unless they're REALLY lucky

  • Cool! Why no beacons, or identification lights of any sort? For effect?

  • i always like the short pause when the JATO kicks out and the crowd goes wild.

  • it is kind of cool when that happens, I think everyone is in shock not realizing how load those rockets actually are.

  • Incredible footage. I'm jealous. That's really amazing stuff you've got there. I've never seen a night JATO, especially on the Fat Albert C-130.

    Thanks for posting.

  • all wekk pshhh this is the coolest thing i've seen in YEARS!

  • night shots always rock at air shows. thing of beauty, good job

  • this has 85k view, why are there only seven comments

  • because I go through the comments and delete the SPAM and bogus comments, also it has been posted on several different sites [this is the original, I shot it with my digital camera] But I don't care if anyone posts it on their site. Since it is hosted on several different sites, the comments may be disabled on those sites????

  • This is the coolest thing I have seen all week, thanks for posting!

  • That must me quite a thrill for the pilot when the aircraft first ignites the thrusters...

The pitch changed so dramatically for such a large aircraft!

  • wooo!

  • cool man i saw that demo (not at night though) at the willow grove naval base

  • cool.

  • heeeeyyyy man too cool been to a lotta air shows never saw this you rock for postin this man well done! i was in the air force and we used to do the wayne and garth at the end of the runway when the fb 111s would take off on training missions and it was like a concusion when the went ballistic with afterburners on i swear it used to loosen my fillings again thanks for sharing you have a fan base now keep on capturing this too kool stuff aj mycyver over and out
