dude u don't know anything about football. biggest gaps in the cover 2 is over the middle and between safety and corner, which u hit with the out route but in real life that out is crap if ur receiver isn't ten+ yards up the field. also what about the slant. just read the olb and the slant is open all day. as for the cover 3, you need to hit the seams. watch the safety roll to one side or the other and the backside post is open. u can hit the seams on the cover 3 all day.

I need serious help with defence. My rating on passing and running are very high, right from the start too, but my defence is one bar :( I can't read plays very well from defence and I dont understand what I should be doing with most of the players. great tips but they don't always work. when on cover 3 you isolate you're top reciever with a corner. you said to throw deep to him. that won't work when you are playing against Champ or Nnamdi or any other elite corner. and you need a good reciever. and their is no way you can throw an out in a cover 2. that's the last thing you want to do. the corner in the flat zone will get a pick-six off that 90% of the time. On cover 2, I like to have my Wide reciever run a fade.
i have a question for you, just yesterday i was playing this guy that uesd that play at 6:07 and he completed that pass 75% of the time ,is that sort of a glith pass, if not can you tell me how to defend that because he was using all the time

i think ur talking about the quick slant play If u are use the qb contain it's a bade play that is in every formation it usualy has a d-lineman playing underneth and ur safeties play a thight man cover if u notice in the vid the qb swings right and this will stop that too

Have a formation with two receivers and a tight end (or third receiver) on one side. Have the inside receiver run a 10 yard slant towards the middle,and the outside run a streak. Have the TE run a five yard in. If it's cover 3 the TE should be open. If its cover two, the safety is going to have to choose between the deep slant or the streak. One receiver should be single covered for a big gain.
You'll probably also want a swing/slant/curl route in case of a blitz and TE doesn't get open.
If u have a perfect QB and perfect WR. u can just use PA FL stretch throw it deep to ur receiver and the receiver can easily break free for a touchdown.
@SportsRoids you know players can just disguise what they want with their safeties thats what i do and if players are looking for that they get confused when they see man with safeties that show cover 2 then what do you do you need to think about the full picture but nice video tho something for noobs

dude with the covr two all u need is a 3-4 wide out set and have the slot reciever do a post and it will split the safties in half every time gauranteed anywhere from 30yards to a TD
Another way to attack that hole is a deep post from your 1st receiver. its more dangerous because it requires a strong armed QB and a fast receiver, plus dummy routes to occupy the other receivers, but its a great way to counter your opponent who might be catching on to the other method. First, call a streak with your 3rd receiver, to keep the FS shaded to the left side of the field, and have the 4th receiver run a curl or in route to keep that strong safety down. You must hit the 1st receiver
Cover 3 has a lot more holes than Cover 2, you just have to be more patient. The most common hole is the strong safety dropping down, and the corner playing the deep third. One great way to exploit this is to do a combination streak/wheel routes, with your 4th receiver running the streak and the 1st running the wheel. this takes the corner farther to the sideline, while the streak is wide open once he gets by the safety.
the sidelines once they clear the corners. Underneath routes with the RB's are great, particularly curls from the backfield, or if you want to combine the RB with your Wheel routes, have them run flat roues, drawing in the corners more, to give you more space to throw.
Not bad, you left out a lot of other ways to attack those zones. Instead of 3 WR sets, go 4 WR sets. Against Cover 2, the out routes will not always be open, especially against good zone coverage corners. Instead, send the 4th or 3rd WR on a streak/post, whatever you want, and hit him once he clears the LB's and on the inside shoulder. If the opponent is catching on to this, and starts controlling the LB or safties, then run the same play, but, have your 1st or 2nd receiver run Wheel routes up
What about Dime zone coverage. I run into alot of Dine and Dollar coverage late in the game if I am successful for like the first 2 quarters. Anything for that anyone?
The packadge will look different but you can still read it. Some Dime and Quarter and Dollar can get confusing because the Saftey might not fill the center. It could be a corner so, but if you practice against it you will start to realize what you will see. Honestly I always put myself in place to run, and I rarely play from behind. But this tips can be applied against any defensive package. Realize that you could be in Dime and still run Cover 2! or Cover 3 depending on your play call!
I agree that you shouldn't be able to complete that on a great player. But lets face it not many players online are goo in coverage...I use that only when i notice that the player is deficient in pass coverage!
I can complete that almost 70 percent of the time i throw it. For a deep ball thats pretty good. Keep practicing you'll get it dont forget to guide it to the sideline and user catch it.

Well these tips are really useful since your telling people how to recognize zone coverage after the play starts, plus yeah like some people have said if you playing against even a decent defensive player you'll get user picked, I know I could user pick that pretty easily.
what do you think reading a defense is. So do you think a QB just guesses what the coverage is before a play starts? Seriously you have to be joking me right? You must diagnose a defense during every step of the play. Thats what football is...Madden 09 in no different.
I'm saying telling if a defense is in a zone after the ball is snapped isn't as good as if you can tell before you snap the ball. Which there are a couple of ways to do that.
if you can't throw over the should and user catch your right....work on those skills and you will be able to complete it trust me.....poeple who go for the interception will give up the touchdown if you mast those skills....It's always best to bat down the ball....
I really like that one play. I believe it's called "bench corners" or something. A lot of times all 4 recievers are wide open and sometimes they're not. Why is that?
ok this is a contiuation to my other post. if its cover 3 go into a 4wr set, and put your 3rd and 4th reciver to do streaks.. hike the ball wait about 5-7 seconds (depening on how good the defense is) and throw it to either 3rd or 4th reciever(specifically a speed guy).... you ill get at least 10yards per play its simple......make sure you must time right or else u get picked!!!!
**(NOTE: I USE THE CHARGERS)**its pretty basic.... basically in madden MAN DEFENSE SUCKS!!!!!! unles you really switch it up well man defense is really terrible... just go into a 4wr shotgun.... put a WR into motion if no one follows him then its zone if some1 folows him then its man... most 2 common zones are cover 3 cover 2.... if its cover two do a play called charger cross(for me) or fl cross, basically puts Wr into deep post. if cover 3, go to your 3rd and 4th reciever, TO BE CONTINUED
Thanks or advice, everyone online uses zone. I noticed you're in shotgun in most of the videos. Is that a must? I know it gives you more time to throw but I run first and pass or play action when needed but going into shotgun makes it obvious pass play for running style offense. Can a QB like Philip Rivers with throwing power of 87 still make the deep pass against cover 3?
You do not have to be in shotgun, the concepts stay the same...Rivers should be able to make the throw, but I don't know for sure, since I don't really ever use the Chargers...I'll try to make the throw to Vincent Jackson

I usually play as the Free Safety, I give up big plays but also create lots of INTs this way, but how would you do this if you play someone like me who controls safeties?

Basically I was just pointing out since you explained the cover 2 and cover 3 that if your being played man the best option if you don't need lost of yards is a quick curl route and usually can pick up a 1st down or a easy 5 yards on man coverage I like slants and sluggos don't use sluggos as often

On cover two sense BOTH of the safetys so outside maybe you could also invest on useing a slant towards the center of the field with a TE or a speed WR. Works well, or a go route to a RB that way when they catch 10 yards deep they have room to work with in the center.
Yea the slant and go route to RB works well if your O-Line can give you the 5-6 seconds you need. Doesnt sound like a lot of time but it is in football. Make more vids roids you have some good tips.

Cover 1 i would suggest doing the same thing he did here except send the te on a right slant or curl and send your right reciever AND left receiver on a go route. You can reveal a cover 1 by the SS (right one on your screen) will be slowly but surely creep up, leaving the FS trying to cover both sides of the field. (When SS creeps up is could also be blitz but this still works) The FS will commit to one reciever or neither and go deep, if FS commits throw deep to other, if not throw to TE.

you forgot to explain one more zone..the velcro 9 zone..i say thats the best zone in madden to stop passing plays..2 players will go for the QB while 9 players will drop back to there zone..so how do u beat the velcro 9 zone???
Pick the wholes in the coverage...That play does not send really any more than 2 rushers. You should be able to get time to wait on your receivers. This play with pressure rocks but without it, it is a easy 10 yard catch everytime...Velcro 9 is a great play to throw at a player when you show blitz...
To beat velcro just call some ins and wait until the WR comes open and gun it in...it's easy..the reason this play gets a lot o ints is because players are not patient and they pre-choose the receiver they are going to throw to before the ball is snapped..If you have patience against this play you should destroy it...
easy the middle is wide open the two shallow areas are covered and the 3/4 areas (cant remember) are covered, but the middle area as far as deepness has only the sidelines covered

3-4 in football is a formation that is used to confuse o line when figuring out blocking schemes. For coverages if you can diagnose which zone coverage your opposition is in this system will still work...
nice video. Another great way to beat cover 2 is to go out of a 4 wr set such as hb option (a pass play). There will be 2 slot receivers that run straight up the hash marks. If you wait they will be open late over the middle. Make sure to throw it to the inside though.

but i find its more of a problem on cover 2 because there are only two guys deep so the safety might not be in position, specially in the middle of the field deep, that was another thing that I saw that was explouiable. sometimes when I throw the ball on deep passes one on one its picked off or the ball is tipped away, I find on cover two its easier to get it away from the defender deep.
good point. I can see where you are having issues. I like to place balls very close to the sideline and switch to the wide-out and catch them with user catches. That is the most important skill to have when playing the deep ball offensively. If you go up for them you have a good chance of getting them.
Sometimes players try to switch to the CB on cover 3 while the ball is in the air (throwing on the CB who has thirds- will not work on other CB), and for some reason the CB will slow down just enough to allow you to catch it or allow him to only tip the ball away. I would never just chuck the ball down field all game, you should always pick away at your opponents defense, because then you can catch them with the occasional deep ball. Honestly, if you can pull this off it is very effective.
Cover 2 leaves more of the field open, if you do think of it from a fundamental standpoint. Therefore you are correct, if you are saying that If you can get a WR deep while inside the hash marks on cover 2 you should get inside the safeties and if the pass is completed you will get a huge gain or maybe even TD.
Great job at finding soft spots in zone coverages, but keep practicing what I have taught you about cover 3, i promise it will help you out one day. Personally I only go deep maybe 2 to 3 times at most a game, if i can avoid having too
I foudn the beast way to beat cover three is by exploiting the weak side safety underneath because he cant get there in time to stop that pass he has to far to go. since its three people deep the deep pass should be taken away.
3 deep is great against the deep ball in madden if you throw to the inside of the field yet I like to throw against the corner who is responsible for deep thirds. THE inside saftey will shift over to the middle of the field, leaving the corner 1 on 1. If you can spot and figure out which corner is in deep thirds you can exploit it. That is a fact. Good job though finding more gaps to exploit! keep it up
I am quite sure the AI is only pro because all rpo the holes are more covered than this. cover thwo the out route only opens ten yards down field on all pro becasue the outside linebacker jumps up and swats that ball down and the conerback gets in there as well, you have to get away from them in front of the safety, also on my game in the cover three the weak faefty neevr steps up and that ball is not there unless of courtse its pro level diffcult where any jump ball turns in your favor

Two days ago I learned that you should never throw a bullet when going deep. Get a fast wr and lob the ball while pressing up on the left stick. After that all you have to do is switch to that wr and sprint to the circle where the ball will land.THIS IS IMPORTANT MAKE SURE THAT YOU HOLD THE Y BUTTON AND DO NOT JUST PRESS IT HOLD THE Y BUTTON UNTIL THE QUICK WR CATCHES THE BALL. Well, I find it easier on Dime packages, actually because the defense is more balanced at the snap. For me it makes it easier to make my reads. I just want to reiterate this system works every single time on all defenses except Quarter. The reason is that in Quarter cover-2 may look like cover 3, if your using this system, yet the concepts can still work just make a read, and always have a short checkdown route if you get stuck!

if your using ps3 and its 1st and 10 do a hot route with whoever you want to do the out route with then click your r3 (your right joystick, which is a smart route) and it will make the wr run past the 1st down line and out.
you are obviously playing on anything but all madden. in ANY all madden game or on live your "needle threading passes" will be A. user picked or B. intercepted by the amazing calvin johnson LBs EA decided to put into 09 thus ruining another madden.

dude with the covr two all u need is a 3-4 wide out set and have the slot reciever do a post and it will split the safties in half every time gauranteed anywhere from 30yards to a TD

Another way to attack that hole is a deep post from your 1st receiver. its more dangerous because it requires a strong armed QB and a fast receiver, plus dummy routes to occupy the other receivers, but its a great way to counter your opponent who might be catching on to the other method. First, call a streak with your 3rd receiver, to keep the FS shaded to the left side of the field, and have the 4th receiver run a curl or in route to keep that strong safety down. You must hit the 1st receiver

Cover 3 has a lot more holes than Cover 2, you just have to be more patient. The most common hole is the strong safety dropping down, and the corner playing the deep third. One great way to exploit this is to do a combination streak/wheel routes, with your 4th receiver running the streak and the 1st running the wheel. this takes the corner farther to the sideline, while the streak is wide open once he gets by the safety.

the sidelines once they clear the corners. Underneath routes with the RB's are great, particularly curls from the backfield, or if you want to combine the RB with your Wheel routes, have them run flat roues, drawing in the corners more, to give you more space to throw.

Not bad, you left out a lot of other ways to attack those zones. Instead of 3 WR sets, go 4 WR sets. Against Cover 2, the out routes will not always be open, especially against good zone coverage corners. Instead, send the 4th or 3rd WR on a streak/post, whatever you want, and hit him once he clears the LB's and on the inside shoulder. If the opponent is catching on to this, and starts controlling the LB or safties, then run the same play, but, have your 1st or 2nd receiver run Wheel routes up

What about Dime zone coverage. I run into alot of Dine and Dollar coverage late in the game if I am successful for like the first 2 quarters. Anything for that anyone?

The packadge will look different but you can still read it. Some Dime and Quarter and Dollar can get confusing because the Saftey might not fill the center. It could be a corner so, but if you practice against it you will start to realize what you will see. Honestly I always put myself in place to run, and I rarely play from behind. But this tips can be applied against any defensive package. Realize that you could be in Dime and still run Cover 2! or Cover 3 depending on your play call!

I agree that you shouldn't be able to complete that on a great player. But lets face it not many players online are goo in coverage...I use that only when i notice that the player is deficient in pass coverage!

I can complete that almost 70 percent of the time i throw it. For a deep ball thats pretty good. Keep practicing you'll get it dont forget to guide it to the sideline and user catch it.

Well these tips are really useful since your telling people how to recognize zone coverage after the play starts, plus yeah like some people have said if you playing against even a decent defensive player you'll get user picked, I know I could user pick that pretty easily.

I'm saying telling if a defense is in a zone after the ball is snapped isn't as good as if you can tell before you snap the ball. Which there are a couple of ways to do that.

if you can't throw over the should and user catch your right....work on those skills and you will be able to complete it trust me.....poeple who go for the interception will give up the touchdown if you mast those skills....It's always best to bat down the ball....

ok this is a contiuation to my other post. if its cover 3 go into a 4wr set, and put your 3rd and 4th reciver to do streaks.. hike the ball wait about 5-7 seconds (depening on how good the defense is) and throw it to either 3rd or 4th reciever(specifically a speed guy).... you ill get at least 10yards per play its simple......make sure you must time right or else u get picked!!!!

**(NOTE: I USE THE CHARGERS)**its pretty basic.... basically in madden MAN DEFENSE SUCKS!!!!!! unles you really switch it up well man defense is really terrible... just go into a 4wr shotgun.... put a WR into motion if no one follows him then its zone if some1 folows him then its man... most 2 common zones are cover 3 cover 2.... if its cover two do a play called charger cross(for me) or fl cross, basically puts Wr into deep post. if cover 3, go to your 3rd and 4th reciever, TO BE CONTINUED

Thanks or advice, everyone online uses zone. I noticed you're in shotgun in most of the videos. Is that a must? I know it gives you more time to throw but I run first and pass or play action when needed but going into shotgun makes it obvious pass play for running style offense. Can a QB like Philip Rivers with throwing power of 87 still make the deep pass against cover 3?

You do not have to be in shotgun, the concepts stay the same...Rivers should be able to make the throw, but I don't know for sure, since I don't really ever use the Chargers...I'll try to make the throw to Vincent Jackson

I made a mistake in my last post I meant if the D is playing zone where my receiver is going to end up on the curl route
Basically I was just pointing out since you explained the cover 2 and cover 3 that if your being played man the best option if you don't need lost of yards is a quick curl route and usually can pick up a 1st down or a easy 5 yards on man coverage I like slants and sluggos don't use sluggos as often

On cover two sense BOTH of the safetys so outside maybe you could also invest on useing a slant towards the center of the field with a TE or a speed WR. Works well, or a go route to a RB that way when they catch 10 yards deep they have room to work with in the center.

Yea the slant and go route to RB works well if your O-Line can give you the 5-6 seconds you need. Doesnt sound like a lot of time but it is in football. Make more vids roids you have some good tips.

Cover 1 i would suggest doing the same thing he did here except send the te on a right slant or curl and send your right reciever AND left receiver on a go route. You can reveal a cover 1 by the SS (right one on your screen) will be slowly but surely creep up, leaving the FS trying to cover both sides of the field. (When SS creeps up is could also be blitz but this still works) The FS will commit to one reciever or neither and go deep, if FS commits throw deep to other, if not throw to TE.

Pick the wholes in the coverage...That play does not send really any more than 2 rushers. You should be able to get time to wait on your receivers. This play with pressure rocks but without it, it is a easy 10 yard catch everytime...Velcro 9 is a great play to throw at a player when you show blitz...

To beat velcro just call some ins and wait until the WR comes open and gun it in...it's easy..the reason this play gets a lot o ints is because players are not patient and they pre-choose the receiver they are going to throw to before the ball is snapped..If you have patience against this play you should destroy it...

3-4 in football is a formation that is used to confuse o line when figuring out blocking schemes. For coverages if you can diagnose which zone coverage your opposition is in this system will still work...

nice video. Another great way to beat cover 2 is to go out of a 4 wr set such as hb option (a pass play). There will be 2 slot receivers that run straight up the hash marks. If you wait they will be open late over the middle. Make sure to throw it to the inside though.

but i find its more of a problem on cover 2 because there are only two guys deep so the safety might not be in position, specially in the middle of the field deep, that was another thing that I saw that was explouiable. sometimes when I throw the ball on deep passes one on one its picked off or the ball is tipped away, I find on cover two its easier to get it away from the defender deep.

good point. I can see where you are having issues. I like to place balls very close to the sideline and switch to the wide-out and catch them with user catches. That is the most important skill to have when playing the deep ball offensively. If you go up for them you have a good chance of getting them.

Sometimes players try to switch to the CB on cover 3 while the ball is in the air (throwing on the CB who has thirds- will not work on other CB), and for some reason the CB will slow down just enough to allow you to catch it or allow him to only tip the ball away. I would never just chuck the ball down field all game, you should always pick away at your opponents defense, because then you can catch them with the occasional deep ball. Honestly, if you can pull this off it is very effective.

Cover 2 leaves more of the field open, if you do think of it from a fundamental standpoint. Therefore you are correct, if you are saying that If you can get a WR deep while inside the hash marks on cover 2 you should get inside the safeties and if the pass is completed you will get a huge gain or maybe even TD.

3 deep is great against the deep ball in madden if you throw to the inside of the field yet I like to throw against the corner who is responsible for deep thirds. THE inside saftey will shift over to the middle of the field, leaving the corner 1 on 1. If you can spot and figure out which corner is in deep thirds you can exploit it. That is a fact. Good job though finding more gaps to exploit! keep it up

I am quite sure the AI is only pro because all rpo the holes are more covered than this. cover thwo the out route only opens ten yards down field on all pro becasue the outside linebacker jumps up and swats that ball down and the conerback gets in there as well, you have to get away from them in front of the safety, also on my game in the cover three the weak faefty neevr steps up and that ball is not there unless of courtse its pro level diffcult where any jump ball turns in your favor

Two days ago I learned that you should never throw a bullet when going deep. Get a fast wr and lob the ball while pressing up on the left stick. After that all you have to do is switch to that wr and sprint to the circle where the ball will land.THIS IS IMPORTANT MAKE SURE THAT YOU HOLD THE Y BUTTON AND DO NOT JUST PRESS IT HOLD THE Y BUTTON UNTIL THE QUICK WR CATCHES THE BALL. Well, I find it easier on Dime packages, actually because the defense is more balanced at the snap. For me it makes it easier to make my reads. I just want to reiterate this system works every single time on all defenses except Quarter. The reason is that in Quarter cover-2 may look like cover 3, if your using this system, yet the concepts can still work just make a read, and always have a short checkdown route if you get stuck!

if your using ps3 and its 1st and 10 do a hot route with whoever you want to do the out route with then click your r3 (your right joystick, which is a smart route) and it will make the wr run past the 1st down line and out.

Against the COVER 2 you can send the tight end on a streak and precision pass it high nad he will catch it 90% of the time and will never get intercepted if you do the play right.
