Great video. I'd encourage anyone who feels confident to give it a go. This really is a very minor piece of domestic cleaning. Do get a professional service done on a much longer interval to check flow rates, flue, etc and insist on paperwork when you made the appointment
I wrote to OFTEC seeking clarification about this. They do NOT say you will invalidate your house insurance by decarbonising your Aga burner.
What they did say is this (and I quote exactly): "Persons who undertake such work and are not part of a registration body may have to in the event of an adverse occurrence demonstrate ‘competence’."
Following this video to decoke the burner will not cause an 'adverse occurrence' or fire? I shall continue to use this technique to keep my Aga burning.
I love all the negative comments about how you cant do ... because you haven't checked flow rates, Co concentrations, levels... blah blah.
The 'Qualified' AGA service agent that we have used gives our AGA the de-coke as shown in the video and a glorified hoovering. £60 for 30 minutes work. But then
I can't do it myself because it would invalidate my insurance. Ha Ha.
@g1243902 Unfortunately this is the other side of the coin. As a OFTEC qualified engineer I do find that there are a number of other engineers out there that take the piss and perform what i call a "rip off" service (like yours) I bet he is paid in cash and dosnt leave you with a CD11 report..... De coking the burner is NOT a service, which normally takes 1.5 to 2 hours.
Common theme here. Its my experience that some rich knob stands over you whilst you carry out a full and thorough service of their wifes AGA which takes me, as an experienced and OFTEC qualified engineer 2 - 3 hours. Lo and behold they think "I can do that" and do it themselves, which is normally followed by irate wife phoning me to rescue them as there are flames coming out of the hot plates (i kid you not) with husband sulking in the corner. DONT TOUCHIT IF YOUR NOT QUALIFED...PERIOD.
ONLY OFTEC QUALIFIED PERSONAL SHOULD SERVICE AN OIL APPLIANCE.
THIS GUY HASN'T GOT A SCOOBY DOO. ANY HOUSE FIRE AND YOUR NOT INSURED AS YOU CARRIED OUT THE SHODDY SERVICE. LIKE THE PERSON BEFORE. CO2 POISONING, AS THE EMMISSIONS AND FLOW RATES HAVEN'T BEEN CHECKED OR ADJUSTED. LOAD MORE CHECKS MISSED. MY ADVISE IS GET A GOOD OFTEC ONLY PERSON TO DO THE SERVICING. HE WILL ALSO LEAVE WITH YOU THE DOCUMENTATION TO GO WITH IT

@lazarus554 It's a myth that decoking the burner voids house insurance. It doesn't. I checked with my insurance company. Incorrect adjustment of the flow rate that resulted in a fire may void your insurance but this video doesn't suggest doing that. Of course Aga technicians will try to claim that only they should remove carbon from the burner but there are a lot of rip-off cowboys out there offering Aga servicing and decoking the burner is a job a householder can do for himself.
@MrAgaSaga Oftec will tell you that doing these jobs yourself without proof of a CD11 form will void your insurance. I'm not on here giving unqualified persons advice on doing there own service. I have to have £five million Insurance to operate. Oftecs becomming like GAS SAFE. Do you know the regs
Didn't see an inspection on the shells/sleeves or baffle plate for blockages cracks or distortion. The chamber and lid machined faces were not inspected. Did not measure the oil level depth within the journals of the burner base (quite critical). Did not see you check the level of the burner base, that what the adjustable feet on the burner base are for. No inspection of the OCV stem valve and O ring. I would suggest that viewers are advised not to carry out your own servicing,
I don't disagree with you phwaff (although your puerile vomiting remark somewhat diminishes your case). Nobody should think that a short YouTube video will make them an experienced Aga technician.
Nevertheless we had our Aga serviced from new by Aga's own technicians for years and it was never right and kept going out so they would have to keep returning at huge cost. I then discovered a cross-threaded union and split, over-tightened elbow.
If the Aga is turned off properly you lift the control valve lever to close the oil supply so that when you service the Aga there will be no oil in the burner.
The box on the side contains the fire valve to shut off the oil if hot flue gases flow out into the kitchen. There's a reset button on the top if it activates. You will also see the control valve which has the reset lever (mentioned above). This contains the float chamber for the oil level. I've never needed to service or adjust these.
thanks, where do you turn the oil suppy on and off, before you do a service, Also whats the box that sits out side the aga, I think it has something to do with the supply of oil to the boiler, does that need servicing or cleaning.

Since servicing it myself it burns perfectly!

@MrAgaSaga Your house insurance in void if you service it yourself. Regardless if you say Aga missed a broken part.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
No safety devices have been tested here in this video and no safety checks have been made either (and there are loads that should be done).
Forgive me while I go and vomit.
