If you only count the horses you might as well call a lorry "supercar", which it isn't. Even the 122hp base Elise is extremely good, not to mention that an R one does 0-60 a lot faster than an M3 @ 4.1s. :)

@DarkLightOX exige is a two seater, t-top meant for driving. the evora apparently is a safe family car that can be used for going to work, groceries, etc..., therefore, the exige is lighter and more agile, thus to drive but more limited in the versatility that the evora has.

Why am i seeing comments comparing a Camaro to an Evora? You can't compare the two, they're totally different. The Evora is a nice car, but i'd rather keep my SS Camaro. May not handle like a Lotus, but its still respectable, especially for a muscle car.
You know, some of us live in the part of the world where the public roads are like race tracks, with tight corners and hairpins and everything. It might be hard to understand, but on mountain roads handling and grip is MUCH more important than straight line speed.

I like this car. Both mechanically and the general looks of it. Sure it's not as light as the elise but im sure its still very nimble. Lotus is good about that kind of thing but it looks generally fun to drive. And the looks strike me as this. Playful yet serious at the same. I dont know. I felt like posting about my feelings about it.
Inorder to sell it in USA and to appeal to the Porsche market, they cant sell it as bare and naked as an Elise. They need the airbags and all the buttons. So like all cars, the weight goes up and the engine grows larger to compensate for the extra weight.

BEFORE ANYONE HATES ON LOTUS EVORA'S after watching this please bear in mind that this is the launch edition of the car which has teething problems. The current evora s has been developed based on the feedback from the launch car and is much bette. And also remember that lotus's are all about highly engineered chasis's that offer a brilliant driving experience as well as comfor. They are one of the best in the game at chasis/suspension developmen and the fruit of this is in the handling/comfort.

Also it needs 4 wheel drive, of course that would make it heavier, but I'm a biased Quattro driver ;-) Btw it accelerates only a bit faster than my allroad.
@NiallatUTube No no no AWD is german, brittish sports cars are all amout being light and nimble RWD cars. Its the basis for our famously well handling cars.
The latest "S" edition of the evora (the non-release spec) seems to address most the problems Jeremy highlighted here. The interior is much better now, the engine is supercharged and the gearbox is different. Its a bloody brilliant car.
The new 2012 v6 exige should be something else. I really hope it gets reviewed by top gear next year.

@MegaSuzukiboy The latest evora s with its supercharged toyota v6 engine does 0-60mph in 4.9mph. Not bad at all for a car that does ~35mpg and is very comfortable/easy to drive. And in any case, though lotus's generally are fast cars the detail lies in the chasis/suspension. For example, the ford gt40 and the hyper fast nissan gt-r both have had chasis's developed by lotus. They are one of the best car chasis engineers in the world and that is clearly visible when you drive one of their cars.
@MegaSuzukiboy Not many muscle cars these days are that fast off the shelf. But muscle cars are hopeless around the track as well. The reason why muscle cars are cheap is because all they do is bolt a v8 onto a a chasis thats just been knocked together to hold everything in place. Lotus is all about chasis development and is why they are brilliant to drive (much better than muscle cars). You cant really compare them.

Depends on what you intend to use it for. If you want to be fast on straights only (did I hear an archaic stiff rear axle being used on the Mustang in the year of our Lord 2011??) and use it to drive friends while expecting the value of it to drop like a rock in the first few years (maybe not in the States) then a Mustang makes sense.
If you intend to DRIVE the car and want something involving that can corner (Lotus's always had great handling) then pick the Lotus.

I like this car. Both mechanically and the general looks of it. Sure it's not as light as the elise but im sure its still very nimble. Lotus is good about that kind of thing but it looks generally fun to drive. And the looks strike me as this. Playful yet serious at the same. I dont know. I felt like posting about my feelings about it.

Inorder to sell it in USA and to appeal to the Porsche market, they cant sell it as bare and naked as an Elise. They need the airbags and all the buttons. So like all cars, the weight goes up and the engine grows larger to compensate for the extra weight.

Sorry, Clarkson, I simply can't take you seriously. In what way am I better off with an Evora over a Cayman? Since the Evora is so overpriced, I could get a well-optioned Cayman S for the same price. The Porsche is also more practical, more reliable and faster.

BEFORE ANYONE HATES ON LOTUS EVORA'S after watching this please bear in mind that this is the launch edition of the car which has teething problems. The current evora s has been developed based on the feedback from the launch car and is much bette. And also remember that lotus's are all about highly engineered chasis's that offer a brilliant driving experience as well as comfor. They are one of the best in the game at chasis/suspension developmen and the fruit of this is in the handling/comfort.

Also it needs 4 wheel drive, of course that would make it heavier, but I'm a biased Quattro driver ;-) Btw it accelerates only a bit faster than my allroad.

@NiallatUTube No no no AWD is german, brittish sports cars are all amout being light and nimble RWD cars. Its the basis for our famously well handling cars.
The latest "S" edition of the evora (the non-release spec) seems to address most the problems Jeremy highlighted here. The interior is much better now, the engine is supercharged and the gearbox is different. Its a bloody brilliant car.
The new 2012 v6 exige should be something else. I really hope it gets reviewed by top gear next year.

@MegaSuzukiboy The latest evora s with its supercharged toyota v6 engine does 0-60mph in 4.9mph. Not bad at all for a car that does ~35mpg and is very comfortable/easy to drive. And in any case, though lotus's generally are fast cars the detail lies in the chasis/suspension. For example, the ford gt40 and the hyper fast nissan gt-r both have had chasis's developed by lotus. They are one of the best car chasis engineers in the world and that is clearly visible when you drive one of their cars.

@MegaSuzukiboy Not many muscle cars these days are that fast off the shelf. But muscle cars are hopeless around the track as well. The reason why muscle cars are cheap is because all they do is bolt a v8 onto a a chasis thats just been knocked together to hold everything in place. Lotus is all about chasis development and is why they are brilliant to drive (much better than muscle cars). You cant really compare them.

Depends on what you intend to use it for. If you want to be fast on straights only (did I hear an archaic stiff rear axle being used on the Mustang in the year of our Lord 2011??) and use it to drive friends while expecting the value of it to drop like a rock in the first few years (maybe not in the States) then a Mustang makes sense.
If you intend to DRIVE the car and want something involving that can corner (Lotus's always had great handling) then pick the Lotus.
Your choice.
