I'm french, and your "r" sounds like the german's "r" and not the french's ! But you do it very well, i have friends who speak english like that... That's irritating, but funny... ! ;)
The first thing you have to know is that there is 2 kind of French! You were speaking English with a French accent from France and it is actually true that French people from France are not able to pronounce the "th" sound. They says "Smis" instead of "Smith". But as a Quebecer myself, we probably have an accent for English people but (I think) can speak with a great English accent. :)
few years ago two parents went out to dinner.a few hours later, the babysitter was calling to see if she could cover up the clown statue in the kid's room, the father said"Get the kids out of the house,we'll call the police we don't have a clown statue"."the clown statue" was actually a killer that escaped from jail.if you don't post this on 10 videos tonight the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand. sorry don't want this to happen to me
Hi my name is Elizabeth Tirheimer (Betty). Probably not everybody will read this but the ones who do please read the rest! I have an acting skills video and me singing Ain't No Other Man. Please subscribe Nd give me some tips. I will return favors :)
why is it important to know the french accent ! I'm lucky because I speak french fluently cause I'm french but I lived in united states so I know how to speak english with a pretty good accent but I know how to make the french accent ! but why is it important , I thought it was a darwback for acting
the french is very confusing to learn because its backwards like we say i like to eat and they would say eat i like to i think im not sure if thats them but i do know thats what we do in Louisiana (mixed population) ... if im wrong plese tell me and i think and its kinda hard since i can only say not type but in french i like to eat is J'aime manger .. correct me if im wrong
@totallyrandomcutie1 "i love you" in french is "love i you" Or "love you i" so yeah your proably right dont stress out about it so yeah and luisiana has a pretty set up french community down their thats right to so yeha
@Alanplou ...i have actually been around seen been taught and know the french language past that point i actually am french born in the usa i was wondering at that moment but i know i was correct plus this girl at my school takes it and helped me out
@totallyrandomcutie1 Maybe it's something specific to Louisiania in this case, but I can guarantee you 100% that we don't speak backward in France. I like to eat is not Eat I like to but J'aime (=i like) manger (= to eat).
I thought this vid was how to speak a french accent if your're currenty learning cuz I need some help....and I don't like speaking french in front of my classmates either, i'd rather just say it to my self.
You messed up the very last word because you didn't follow your own rule! You said "city" instead of "cit-IE" :D - otherwise great general guidance. I would add: use "s" for unvoiced "th" (think -> sink) and "z" for voiced "th" (that -> zat).
@Stevina18 I don't understand. Since when did it become immature to stand up to a bully? Telling someone that their teeth is intimidating is really offensive and hurtful. But why would you criticize her to begin with? Did you not enjoy the video? Did the video suck that much that you have to put her down for it? Just tell her the video sucks then. I'll never understand people. The fact that 100 people agree with your comment disgusts me.
@Stevina18 Just because "many" people do it does NOT mean it's right. And you are only getting hate because your comment was just uncalled for. Her teeth are perfect. It's not like she needs braces or her teeth are yellow, but even if she did, your comment would still be mean. This is a video about accents, NOT about teeth. Would you like it better if she made an audio clip? Get over yourself, if you don't like her teeth, just look away. Grow up already.
Oh my god I can't watch this it's too horrible. Don't get me wrong. You do it perfectly. But that's why. I'm french and speak english currently with no french accent but when french people start speaking english with french accent I just want to choke them to death.
@MrMissMerde I can't agree more except i have the terrible french accent when i speak english and i hate it too >< lucky you :) by the way the video is really good that's how we speak XD
@Stevina18 Why are her teeth intimidating? Do you know why you made such a comment? Because if natural selection was to ever weed humans out on the basis of teeth (which it has done in the past), she would be one of the few people to survive while you and I would both rot and perish. I would say that's rather intimidating knowing that someone has superior teeth than I do, but it is ignorant of you to say her teeth are intimidating. Tsk tsk, typical American.
If you want a french accent start by learning how to pronounce french vowels,as it is where our accent mostly comes from, secondly, learn where to place your tongue, english often press their tongue on their teeth to produce words, especially the ''th'' phonetic, french never do that, thats the reason why we have a hard time with the ''th''. when we speak, we press our tongue on our palate most of the time.try pronoucing ''the'' while placing your tongue on your palate, you'll hear the accent.

Ça, c'est vrai. I am Francophone as well, and the vast majority of French people don't sound like this when they speak English. She has some of the elements right, like the guttural 'r', but it is stereotypical, and that's what I think she was going for.
@athenareich Hey, I'm not sure why all these people are hating on you, but I want to say thanks for the upload. And despite what some of these comments say, there is nothing wrong with your teeth. I don't know why people have to be so cruel on youtube, but thanks a bunch for at least trying. That's more than half of these "critics" can say about themselves. I appreciated the video.
@tangram108 Hiya - thanks - I appreciate it and you are a sweetheart. I guess some people find it easy to be negative on the internet because there's no repercussion. But I bet you not one of these negative people have ever worked as an actor or performer. A critic is a critic.. not a creator. :)
@athenareich I'm glad to see that you are very self-confident and can take things in good humor. With that type of attitude, you'll find great happiness in life. It's much easier to criticize than it is to appreciate, so I was just sending you some thanks from a person who can appreciate good talent. =]
Thanks for the attempt, but this really falls short. The "r" is not that hard, and no, not every intonation ends on the last syllable. Also, you don't just speak in the front of your mouth, you have to speak above as well, in the nasal cavity. It creates a very bright (not nasally!) sound that many of the French naturally speak with. Also, it's a good thing to know what French words we have in English, and pronunciations. Elephant would be Ehleh-phahnt, "ah" as in "father". ;)
Im sorry but I'm French and I'm aware of our accent and it's been almost ten years that I study English and it just doesn't sound like that. Weee speak likee zis you no?
Sorry but you don't sound French. We aren't used to pronounce "rrrrhh" for "r" but rather "w".And I smiled when you've pronounced "elephant" and "new york city" : you seemed almost insane!
I know that the usual French pronunciation is horrible, but not of that kind !
(no ill feelings, though...don't want you to find me rude!
@famous1779 I agree with you. I also yelled at Stevina18 for her negative comment. Stevina18 might have nicer looking teeth, but the female in the video has superior teeth speaking from an evolutionary viewpoint. The person in the video is more adapt at surviving than most other people. That sounds pretty intimidating...I guess? It's not like she's got yellow or crooked teeth, so I don't even know why they would make such a negative comment.
god damn that was a terrible french accent. trust me i would know i'm half french and speek it with my familly. that sounds terrible. don't teach anyone that.
Please being indulgent with that girl , talking french for americans - and generally speaking with the anglo-saxon peoples - is very difficult to pronounce - I learned my English and it was hard at the beginning ...Remember !
Sounds a bit like German accent to me (i'm French). This "r" is way too strong ! Anyway, I just hate french accent...Fortunately I don't have it anymore...I heard that american people thought french accent was cute. Is it true?
Ok, sorry for German natives who I could have offend, but as a french native, I can certify that this accent is completely exagerated .. all is too strong. And as for lots of french people, the german is stronger than french, in terms of "R" prononciation for instance... I think this accent is closer to the german one than the french one...
Oh and by the way, French is a flat language, so there isn't any accent on syllables. We don't go up at all on the last one as you said, we don't go up at all, and that's why French is very hard to understand when they talk together.
@n3rdz0rz I'm not talking about pitch (going up and down), but accents as in where the emphasis is on the word. You might want to check the dictionary before dishing out criticism using words incorrectly... Silly... haha

Is it true?

EllenaFR 7 months ago
I am French, and just so you know, that's not a French "r" at all; it's a German "r". The French "r" is a lot softer.
Last point: the accent is not on the last syllable in French words: we just don't accent any syllable.

Effectivement, ça rend plus allemand que français. Et surtout, je ne comprends pas pourquoi chercher à parler anglais avec l'accent français, qui est un des plus laids qui soient...
PebblexxxintheSky 8 months ago
The accent isn't THAT bad, but the bad thing is how you position your lips and chin while imitating the accent: it makes you look like a duck.

knowing different dialects makes you look more versatile which, in turn, books more jobs. Pay attention to the title before you diss.

@Aly90 Because actors need to learn different accents in order to get roles..

We don't go up at all on the last one as you said, we don't go up at all, and that's why French is very hard to understand when they talk together.
n3rdz0rz 9 months ago
@n3rdz0rz I'm not talking about pitch (going up and down), but accents as in where the emphasis is on the word. You might want to check the dictionary before dishing out criticism using words incorrectly... Silly... haha
athenareich 8 months ago
