  • Whats the guitar you are using dude ? Sounds nice

  • @dandslash It looks like the brand "Vintage "

  • Is all your playing just amp settings and no pedals?

Torn between this, Class 5 Marshall Mk II and the Hughes and Kettner Tubemeister 18 Head with 18 / 5 / 1 watt power soak. Marshall and Laney Class A 5 watts sound v loud. I assume though that the Laney with its Drive volume can get a lot of tube break up at lower volume for the house.

  • @chymist66 Honestly, I would take the Laney...

  • @KHGuitarFreak1988

Please can expand on why you think the Laney, build quality, features, tone? Or all of this.

I'm a rock and metal kind of guy who will never gig, deciding to take up the guitar aged fortysomething. A sort of house rocker. Laney does sound sweet.

  • @chymist66 Build quality IMO surpasses the other two you've mentioned. Features are good. Nice clean channel, but even better lead channel IMO. Tone is kinda hard to describe. It may look like it's paying tribute to Vox, but it's more of Laney making a class A amp IMO. IMO, best Laney ever made. I only briefly tried the 5W combo. Sounded good for low volume stuff. I personally own the 20W head version with the 2X12 matching cab. Feel free to ask questions if need be...

  • @chymist66 Oh, and if you haven't tried it out yet, take a patch cable and jumper the loop. The amp will sound bigger and clearer that way...

  • @KHGuitarFreak1988

Thanks for your thoughts on this, it's very helpful!

  • @chymist66 This Laney also has amazingly nice, sweet and full clean, which the other don't. This amp is a killer.

  • did he just say that he will get one for FREE? man... he probably has enough money to BUY it! :D

  • Is it the compression of the amp itself ?

  • Love what you're playing :-) and sweet tone by the way !

  • Wow! Can't get over how good that sounds; ) You might have just sold me on the Vintage brand LP too, beautiful sounds.

  • @mattchurchill2 Thanks, Matt! Sounded great in person. I have it dialed in nicely with my Tele's now that it's home with me. The amp pulls a lot of tone directly from the EL-84 power tube instead of the pre-amp section. The Celestion G12-H sounds great too. I haven't even tried it with pedals yet. Also, that Vintage LP sounded and played really well. Make sure you check out the Agile A 3000 or 3100's LP's as well. Big fan, and they come with Grovers. Best of luck!
