  • RIP mj

  • Good ideea... it was a pleasure for me to see them together on this song... Fred and Michael are the masters of the dance!

  • Sony = Evil

  • 1:02 Looks like obama to me

  • this is just fucking grate. Damm you sony u blocked it in many places

  • god please, give michael jackson back :( we'll give you justin bieber...

  • @coccinelsucrer- actually Michael had some special shoes made for the video, so they would be able to perform that move...

  • @ponyboy1959 There were no special shoes in the video. but Michael actually invented the special shoes for the concerts, to make this move live. IN the video, however, it's done with cables. They removed them in post-production.

  • Thumbs up if sony has blocked fred astaire + michael jackson - smooth criminal in your country. DAMN YOU SONY !

  • @finalcut75 ... Haha suxx for u :p

  • Sii hay mucha influencia, igual se formaron dos géneros de danza artística inmortales, ojalá se continúe y se crean mas de este estilo........

  • very good idea, but bad timming

  • This was Michael's favorite short film. There was a true friendship between Fred Astaire and Michael Jackson and they had a mutual admiration for one another. Michael even dedicated his book, "Moonwalk" to Fred Astaire. Fred was somewhat concerned about who would take his place when he left this world, but when he saw Michael dance he knew that he didn't have to worry any longer. Now Michael has joined Fred, Gene Kelly, Sammy Davis and James Brown and they're all moonwalking on clouds.

  • Hey Miss Janet, You must be working on your M.J. P.H.D.

  • @MsMjluv L TO THE MOTHERFCKING O L.

  • I totally agree with your Janet, from Fred Astare, Gene Kelly Sammy Davis Jr, Mr James Brown, Michaek Jackson.

    Masters of the dance

  • Norally I hate it when artists stick too close to other artist´s work, but here there is the similarity on the one hand but all the individual tyical Michael Jackson stuff, which is unique and has a strong recognition value. Both, FA and MJ were genious and each of them had its personal style. And it is good that way.

  • you know mj was inspired by fred's vid, the similarites are far to close for him not to. the suit, the setting the dancing with the chic, the list goes on

  • Michael performed this video in honor and memory of his friend Fred Astaire, theerfore it's supposed to mirror Astaire's work. They truly loved and respected one anothers talent. :-)

  • Wich version of Smooth Criminal is this?

  • it´s the one from MJ´s movie Moonwalker.

  • what's the name of fred astaire's movie?

  • the band wagon

  • @layla1yb The Fred Astaire movie is 'The Band Wagon'.

  • They're all great dancers that time will never erase their memories!!!

  • I never saw these dances by Fred Astaire ... is the Smooth Criminal set & dance an homage to FA, or has this bar sets been used as background to create a greater similarity between Fred Astair and Michael's Smooth Criminal video?? Either way, it's an awesome video!

  • of*

  • im not just saying this because im only 16and know nothing about Fred Astaire, but i think Michael's dancing is SO much better.

Not saying Fred Astaire isnt good - coz i know he is. I just think MJ is better :)

  • you have some homework to do my friend, im not discrediting MJ at all, but you have to be informed of your hero's heroes.

  • Well actually, "my friend", if you read one of my previous comments i said that i KNOW Fred Astaire was one of MJ's heros.

Seems like your the one who needs to do some homework before you talk.

And in my last comment i simply stated MY OWN OPINION that Michael is a much better dancer. Respect that.

  • The legendary dancers of the 20'th Century would be Fred Astaire and Michael Jackson.

    Memory Eternal.

  • Read history. Astaire was inspired by Bill "Bojangles" Robinson and John Bubbles Sublett along with sammy davis jr, and the nicholas brothers, the inventors of tap dance in America. Fred Astaire and most white artists just stole from the black community and then act like they invented something. Just like hip hop.

  • and how do you know this?

  • how does who know what?

  • you said"Fred Astaire and most white artists just stole from the black community and then act like they invented something"

  • Every person over 40 knows this. We know what we did and when it hit the white community. From jazz to gospel to rock and roll to hip hop to tap dance to the cakewalk to trills in the voice to crooning. It's no big secret.

  • We all must acknowledge that when it comes to dancing and singing in this country, mostly all those moves and singing styles originated with black people. Mostly everyone knows that. It's just when whites started doing it, it became popular, especially with people like Elivis Presley. The reason Elvis was rejected at first was because they said he sounded and danced like black people. Had Elvis been black, I don't think his success would have been so great. His style would have been rejected.

  • Don't forget James Brown! :D

And I kinda like Gene Kelly too.

  • is it just me or is the song like sped up?

  • I was thinking that this must be the tour version or the radio version they always speed songs up

  • That lean at 5.45 was done on wires !!!

  • No, he did it with special shoes. He took out a patent on them. Just googe "US Patent 5,255,452"

    Still impressive, nonetheless!

Rest in peace, Michael. You truly were the King of Pop.

(He died on my birthday, which makes it particularly poignant for me.)

  • I meant google, not googe,of course, but this system won't let me edit my comment. :-)

  • no the lean in the video was actually done with wired he even said it was done by wires

  • 5:28, XD

and 5:45 is awesome, i tried it, i couldnt get past a 10 degree lean

  • I can see how Fred Astaire's dress influenced Michael but their styles of dance are completely different and unparalleled.

  • Cool!

  • 5:45 Cool!!

  • daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmnnnnn what is that? a 40 degree lean at 5:45 who does that?!! jesus christ what a man!!!!

  • oui ! il le fait aussi en live dans le dangerous tour Bucharest 1992

  • It's all about the shoes. Michael designed them. They're actually anchored to the stage. But don't believe me - look it up. : -)

  • @thesoouuptrain

    There were wires you know...

  • yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 5.45

    WOWIEE.

  • i've only resently realised why i love your music so much is because your voice hasd so much strength in it and its so powerful. may you rest in peace michael jackson. May your soul live on

  • words are not enough

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SONG

  • love this song :)

  • I love that move in 5:45... wew

  • Awsome performance Micheal You've outdone ur self again may u Rest in peace Micheal. god bless u MJ RIP!

  • whoa!!!!!!

same concept. same moves. same costumes!

  • Michael Jackson by lightyears !

  • I think it looks that way in this particular video however if you look at other videos of Fred Astaire, particularly with Ginger Rogers then there's a huge difference in the kind of dance moves as opposed to this case.

  • Only realized recently that the reason I loved Michael Jackson so much was because of his dance routines and I finally realized because I loved Fred Astaire when I was a little kid there was the connection. Then after a little research found out Michael and Fred became friends and shared and admired the talent of each other. That gave me a lot of joy!

  • Great work. 5 stars for you.

  • great video !

    5 stars !!

  • This is AWESOME _ Thanks :)

    5*****

  • Very good! :) love to see it!

  • :) Great 5*
