GOVERNMENTS should be the 1 who should start taking the 1st step to work out with all the manufacturers for solutions to have the waste properly recycled. No parties should just made MONEY and forget about the waste that they invented/created in the 1st place. Typical GOVERNMENTS always pushes all their waste to the poor at a very low cost, making them even poorer to do the jobs.
It costs $10/hour in America because we have labor standards and health regulations that are actually enforced. In the US we do it in a secure factory with safety equipment, gloves, and masks. @lexichronicle2 If he was smart he'd strip the boards in a rotating arrangement so he didn't have to cook the epoxy substrate so badly on each individual board. That is what I do. I rotate about 5 boards at a time, work one a little then rest it and work another. But I am trying to salvage the parts in working order.

GOVERNMENTS should be the 1 who should start taking the 1st step to work out with all the manufacturers for solutions to have the waste properly recycled. No parties should just made MONEY and forget about the waste that they invented/created in the 1st place. Typical GOVERNMENTS always pushes all their waste to the poor at a very low cost, making them even poorer to do the jobs.

It costs $10/hour in America because we have labor standards and health regulations that are actually enforced. In the US we do it in a secure factory with safety equipment, gloves, and masks. The Republicans are working on changing that, give em time and we will have plenty of jobs inhaling toxic fumes all day! The guy doing the desoldering has a fan directly behind the hotplate in the wall. It's not ideal, but I've seen rework fans for sale in the West that are wimpier than that. I also note that the transformer on the board he's taking apart is the same as the one in the ATX PSU I have in front of me. :P

@lexichronicle2 If he was smart he'd strip the boards in a rotating arrangement so he didn't have to cook the epoxy substrate so badly on each individual board. That is what I do. I rotate about 5 boards at a time, work one a little then rest it and work another. But I am trying to salvage the parts in working order.

At what point will people refuse to do this work? The industry WILL exploit them all - and never be held accountable. ORGANIZE! If no one would do the work, those business and ALL the imports of the waste would STOP. Then the middle-men would have no market for the waste and the chain would back up till the cities of the consumers would fill up with monitors. THEN we might see some thoughtful design that would include "Cradle to Cradle" re-use. As long as "we" accept that we have no choice ...
