Crysis DX10 Benchmarks on 4870 X2 / Part 1

That is a very nice graphics card but truthfully... that is one helicopter of a computer....

What mostly hurts this game is the buggy DX10. If you do a comparison of the average DX10 high benchmarks to DX9 high benchmarks, one clearly sees a remarkable difference and the true power of this card. I have one and my CPU is OCed at 3.4 GHz (1.362v), and even then, my gpu average is around 30 in DX10. Sadly this is as best I can overclock it with my heatsink.

This will do better on 1920x1080 and higher. On 1680x1050 these two systems get very similar results. 4870 X2 is working always better with AA than 9800 GTX's.

Should I buy a GTX 280 xxx edition or a HD 4870 X2 ?

4870 X2 will be faster, but if you are playing Crysis I'd recommend GTX 280 XXX.

Why is that? I mean if the 4870 is faster why should I go woh the GTX 280?

because Crysis is hardly optimized for nVidia and with GTX 280 you will not have the microstuttering what 4870x2 causes in Crysis. In other games (and tests/benchmarks) 4870 X2 will be much faster!

Microstuttering is when you have big lags in game or in some places have big FPS drop.

It seems like card is working on it's full potential only with 16xQAA and 1680x1050 (or 1920x1080). I'll OC CPU soon - bought new cooler yesterday.

no the problem is that 4870x2 plays better @ MUCH higher resolutions. Processor is fine.

It will not kill the newest VGA cards. I can play Crysis with 8xAA on MP easily.

I already have new cooler and i've OC-d cpu ;)

But it's not going over 2845 mhz. At least I get playable framerates in crysis now (25FPS all maxed out)

With OC I have around 4 average FPS more than with default speed. This video is done with default speed.
