Hey gamer, if you ever read this, i needed to know something, whenever I get the ps3.. I wanted to chat on MSN on it while playing, I believe the xbox can do that, but can the PS3 do it? i know you can log on msn by going to hotmail.com on the ps3 internet or something like that, but i'm worried it might not be possible to access there while gaming, is it possible? i tried finding stuff about it and can't find a thing > <

Optimizing the ui to free up ram could fix it. The main reason is that certain games like killzone 3 and uncharted 3 use all of the system recourses but the vast majority of them don't. They could just do the same thing they did with trophies and only let it support newer games or games that get patched to support it, dedicating a few megabytes to a party system. A few mb of ram won't affect performance in most games and the ps3's processor is a bigger advantage for developers.

If Sony doesn't add cross voice chat it's either lazyness or they want Vita to be the only one to have it to make it more appealing to some people and/or they will have it on PS4 and same thing to make it more appealing as the first PS home console to do it! The PS3 can do cross voice chat, Sony just needs to improve the UI (XMB), in-game menu and anything that requires RAM and anything else that cross voice chat requires (which both UI and in-game UI need an urgent overhaul ASAP anyway) or Sony doesn't want to do it because some older games would have to be patched and Sony sees that as a problem even though it's not, because it's just like Trophies, older games needed to be patched.

Cross game chat is awesome but my remedy straight up is either call my people on the phone or running skype on my laptop while I play, There's no reason though that Sony couldn't just initiate a patch and create something similar to what Xbox has because it is better. I do have both systems but I still refuse to pay for XBL. haha

another thing they should do is, let you play your own music while playing your games but you could create your own personal music mix or so.

when they reworked the OS to do in-game XMB with firmware 2.42 they already used up most of the available RAM. if they added Cross Game chat at this point you wouldn't be able to use it with older games because it would max out the RAM and crash the game. they can't do it because it's too late and companies would get pissed off cause it would ruin their poorly coded games and make them lag and freeze.

I guess most people that are commentating and yourself didn't read the details about this. The ps3 has limited RAM space and whatever game is running will use all of that RAM, which means there is 0 left for chat or other systems. There is no software workmaround because it is a hardware issue. Yoshida put up an article about this a few days ago, go read that.

@deanastley Like I said in the first video I made about this, if its a hardware issue why could they not have added more ram to the other models of ps3's? With all the new models and versions they made since ps3's launch they coulda put more ram in them. Like when the ps3 slim first came out and they discontinued the fat ps3's they should have did it right at that time period and none of us would be talking about this now. I'm sure sony knew about this for awhile. Bad move on their part.

However it still means they would have to totally re-write the ps3 systems software and how it uses RAM, increasing the amount of RAM wouldn't change the fact that the game will use 100% of it. Only them re-writing the code for the ps3 would change that, but it would mean far too much work and would also mean a lot of previous games (that used 100% of RAM) to not work anymore.

Duh...

You can't just 'PUT IN" more ram in newer PS3 Slims because then you'll segment your whole infrastructure.

The whole point of game consoles, is that it's a UNIFIED architecture. YOu don't want gamer A, with more or extra features than Gamer B, or you'll have a PC problem where developers don't know which unit(s) they should be programing for.

My main point is this whole thing could have been avoided if they had added more RAM in the ps3 to begin with period. I mean what the ps3 has like 256 mb of RAM? Thats too low for todays technology. 2 problems with your theory.

1) PS3 has 512MB of overall memory just like the 360. PS3's 256MB of main ram costs more because it is XDR. XDR is almost 5 times FASTER than the DDR3 used by XBOX 360's ram.

2). Lets just say Sony had 256MB of more ram...which would have raised the price of the PS3 btw (XDR = expensive). Sony exec said they CAN'T TAKE RAM AWAY. That means once its been allocated to devs for their games in their SDK's,they can't say "OOPs, we change our mind"

@Persistantthug yea I see what you're saying but either way. I look at it like this ps3 is the most powerful ''Console'' on the market, not talking about pc's. With that being said, why not use the system to its full potential? I doubt its reached it. Sony was losing money either way when the ps3 first released at 600 or 500. I think they should have had a clearer picture of how ps3 should be built. Who knows maybe they rushed to release it since xbox360 came out before sony released theirs.

Everything you mentioned requires RAM in order to be implemented. If they can free up some ram by reducing the OS/XMB footprint, then it can be possible. But, as of now we wont see xgame chat on the PS3.
