Your safest bet is to try and get out of its way.. ie. speed the fuck up and hope for the best... Unless you have a magical vehicle where you press the break and your car immediately stops without any sliding (defing all laws of physics), you will not want to slam your breaks once you passed the intersection line...

If you pressed your brakes then at least if you ran the light and oncoming traffic was now in the intersection you wouldn't be doing the speed limit(or more likely over the limit) when you hit someone. In the exact same scenerio, I could hit someone going at 25 mph, but having lets say gone 40 mph I would have dodged it, thats 15 mph faster, it doesn't mean you would get hit in both cases, in one you have a good chance of dodging it. but I see where you are getting at though, still a valid point.

Trucker comes into Intersection slowly becuase he was stopped at Red light, Car runs red light, but becuase of how slow the trucker was going and the speed of the other car, the car acully went under him and out the other side, with only paint scrapped off the cab of the car. nobody was injured.
