this part is a bit hard to understand. ive only just started learning japanese recently and i stumbled across these vids and there really helpful thanks for putting them up
@joshfiend10 If you want to learn more sentences in japanese and better fluency, check out my playlist (on my channel) called Japanese Lessons. Really. You should start from lesson 2: lesson 1 is just about greetings
You will learn to speak Japanese naturally by understanding the culture and how the language works, lessons on our videos - youtube.com/watch?v=wfseANZtMNg
Youtube + Rosetta Stone + smart fm + Japanese books is probably the best way to go without an instructor. And it's hard. Every little thing, such as these videos, helps a LOT. Internet FTW.
i've been studying japanese but funny enough is the first time i learn about this type of counting for different things , i know about , ichiban , niban , futari etc, but i didnt know this existed as well!
thanks for posting this up youtube, you're most helpful
Arigatou gozaimasu , Sensei! =D
( i would write that in hiragana but i dont know how to set it up on my laptop xP)
I liked the video and understood what she is talking about the "ikko" because I do kumon of japanese so it's easier to me but for those who didin't understand I can explain this:
usually in japanese numbers we don't say the "chi" part of "ichi", number 1, to count things and not only for 1, number 3, 6, 7, 8 ,9 and sometimes 10 too changes if you want to count age or hour or days...
let's order! cheeseburger sanko... is that right? french fries... are french fries a small object like an apple or a cylinder shaped object like a pen? (or tree) ... ... wait... isn't a cheeseburger also cylinder shaped even though it's flat? help? oh but that works! orange juice, ippai!
This Japanese series is very informative. I've just moved to Japan, and the little bit that I've been learning from this series is definitley helping.
I'm sorry to say, but this really isnt that helpful. She needs to use more examples to help ppl like me. I don't understand why is the number ichi (1) shortened to iko?
Yea, me too, I guess it just me but still I need some examples, at least I will try to remember, oh by the way, I guess the number ichi shortened to iko because of the first (word ichi) letter "i". By the way do we write it like "i-ko" or just "iko"? :(
I agree that her explanation was way too quick... the reason it became "iko" is that the "ko" part tells you that she is counting that she is counting something small. Kinda like "ichi-ko" but just shortened to "iko".
No language is harder than the other. Language is complex in general. It really depends what language you are learning and what you already know to form an opinion.
actually english isn't to easy to learn i mean i agree but in some terms it isn't.even i am english and some sentences like numbers and number in one sentence can confuse me but reading it carefully u understand it's numb-er
illiterate English is easy :P. but if you go in depth then its hard, but then again.. English is my primary language so i wouldn't know how hard it is to learn.
i wanna kill myself i know words and can read hiragana pretty easily...but since i cant take formal classes since my town has no schools for just japanese or any other language just the 3 basic you see in almost all HS...and i dont know how to make sentences ... if i could just learn KANJI and how to put words into sentences then id be able to speak it even though i might not be abel to understand =P
Ofc thursgun is right, english ain't hard at all, that's why it's an international language. I don't know arabic so I can't say if it's hard or not, but for people who speak european languages arabic is hard for sure, coz of vocabulary which ain't similar to any language from europe, ee i guess. But maybe asians feel the same abt english? w/e, english IS simple and easy, and that's why it's so so nice.
who said that english is the hardest language to learn? Only you say so. Words. What are words? You can easily master vocabulary. But GRAMMAR. Grammar as hard as for example polish one, where you have complicated noun declination - THAT is hard to learn, not vocabulary.
Hey. wtf r ya talkin abt? u english teacher or sth? riasukebamsama hasn't got grammar problems. (: i mean her english is good. :] eh boy. english is easy like hell! u should know, that ria knows polish, japanese, italian, english and now she is learnin spanish german and french. ;D she is master.
everyone STOP ARGUING!!! Every language have their own complexity. Your inclination to lear ANOTHER language mainly depends on how you contruct grammar using your native language.
Amazingly, some language, like Japanese starts with a subject. Others start with verb. Others starts with the predicate. SO STOP ARGUING GUYS!!! Every LANGUAGE ARE UNIQUE!!!
Now all you need to learn is RESPECT and you'll be RESPECTED!
THANK YOU! damn I get tired of seeing arguments between stubborn or thick-headed people on videos like this! I agree too; it's not the subject, it's the learner!
I've been trying to learn Japanese for over 2 weeks now. It seems very logical and feels like its getting easier the more you learn. I actually think it would be harder to learn English. I'm just happpy its my frist language. :)
hell i'm thinking japanese is way harder, maybe because it's similar to my first language. i think if you know a latin language you can learn all latin languages (like spanish, italian, french, portuguese), plus german and english very easily. but japanese is a whole different logic of speaking.
well ive spoken to foreign students and they dont feel english is the hardest language to learn. English doesnt have as many tenses so i think its one of the easiest. I think chinese is hard the different tones confuse me.
How would you say like, two countries then? There are a lot of things that does not account for so I'm still a little bit lost.
And I am pretty sure that Hiki applies to things besides animals. Plants? As rosetta stone put it on a picture of a flower, "Ippiki no hana" and would you always say "Ringo i-ko" or could you say "Iko no ringo?" (as I am pretty sure the Rosetta Stone language program, less helpful for Japanese because it is so complex, says for flowers)

Great, thank you.
For the one like me that are learning.
These are basic counters (really good ones) but there are lots, and lots of them, so keep searching.
And.. yes, as she said, there are come changes according to the quantities, eg.
hiki changes for piki, nin changes for hitori or futari (one person, two persons respectively), etc, etc so, if you are interested keep searching.
Thank you so much.

Not really.
We have so many words that are similar and words that mean the same thing.
We have words that are close and look the same, and mean the opposite.
For someone else to learn English that has never seen it before, and didn't start young, it is rather tough.
It's already been said that it is the hardest language to learn.
I could learn any other language easily, like what I've been doing.
