hey you did a superb test and demo there for us all. It s not that bad actually. i think you are getting decent results but its good that you are a perfectionist and seriuosly critical. After all its not that cheap. Have you got used to it yet and how do you rate it now? It definately looks superior to hand held, thats one thing for sure. Again, brilliant footage and test. well done and thanks
How can you compare a Merlin Steadicam to a Modosteady? Merlin = 850USD, ModoSteady = 100USD? It's not really a fair comparison... Does it work at least OK?
400 bucks? WOW! It's only around $100 now and I don't even think it's worth that. It's all b/c of the way the handle mounts. It sticks too much. Sounds like you'd agree.
Amazon actually sells it for 89$ now. recession has its good sides...
The Hugue doesn't have the shoulder brace and tripod and it also doesn't fold as compactly. So I think the ModoSteady is a much better choice for this proce range.
I've seen some test shots of people using the Modo and none of them look good as Steadycams. I looked at the Hague test shots and they all looked smooth and nice, giving that "gliding" feel. I got the Hague and it actually gives that gliding feel. I don't regret it because the video results are nice. However, I think it was a little too expensive for what it is. The shoulder brace thing looks nice, though, for the Modo... I could maybe use that. I feel sorry for people who paid $200 for the Modo
Nice review. I really enjoyed the city life shots...is that the philipines? I've never been there, but would like to someday...my grandparents came to the US in the early 1920s. Hey, check out thesmartpod channel for a unique camera mount accessory that attaches anywhere and holds any position. Let me know what you think. Thanks.
well.. merlin is cleary a better choice, there is no doubt about it. but where i live i can get 585 modosteady for 115usd, merlin for nearly 1000usd. i've seen your's and other's footages and 585, not great but looks better than none.
i envy your city, people looks a whole lot video friendly!
Hi Saggitarius Star. Modosteady is not that affordable but is good for light cameras. I believe that for best result, the Merlin Steadycam is the best and wise investment.
Hi Klerkan. I envy that you're getting the Merlin but that is a choice you won't regret. Kindly send me a buzz when you do a review on the Merlin. Cheers
There is one shop in Marina Square that sells video cams, tripods, and the likes. Around S$220. THey also have the Merlin Steadicam there. Somewhere in the middle aisle and the Merlin Steadicam is showcased right at the window. You'd find the Modosteady inside.

$200 + $90 fedex? That's insane. Amazon sells this for $100, but I'm thinking of getting the Hague instead (it's from UK).
Didn't you get weird looks or stores asking you to stop filming?

yeah, but Merlin cost is 4 times (!) more than this Modosteady... and for $800 I can afford a really good tripod for small camera...

Thx for the Review, U saved me some cash,
Im getting the merlin steadycam, and il think my cam is to havy for the Modosteady.

A good review! Easily Manfrotto's most disappointing product. Don't waste your money.
