  • absolutely beautiful song and voice. Thank you.

  • Terrific version, terrific voice. This is the type of song very suited to a good tenor like Anthony Kearns.

  • This is fucking fantastic. Absolutely stunning. I love it. LOOOOVE IT! I've seen Anthony twice. He's amazing

  • Ah no....all correct and in place ...but poor sense of telling ...too little colouring ...emphasis could be much better ..especially from someone with a classical training ..the problems of crossover!! God grant you GLORY....and so on ...

  • Call me bias but i would rather hear my relative Martin Crosbie sing it + there is wexford blood in the family as his mom and dad was born there

  • @wexford10 So put up a video of him singing it on youtube and we'll vote on it

  • Absolutely the very best! =) No one is better in my opinion.

  • He's going to be singing live on March 18th at St. Joseph's College in Patchogue ny!!!! Better get tickets now!!!

  • Listen to SERGEI LEMESHEV. The difference is notable

  • @MrSkylark1 You CAN'T be serious? Besides, I couldn't find anything of him singing Boolevogue and why would he? He's a Russki. You're comparing apples & oranges.

  • Antony you are as handsome as ever, who would of ever thought that when you used to sing for us while you were working in our local hotel, you would be such a success, well done, you deserve it. Joy.

  • Nice 'Oirish'-tenor...AND, I agree ellyc...a feast for the eye...

diana-maria (good, old Oirish-stock...) from Melbourne, Australia.

  • @aussiechickdiana This was 10 years ago and he STILL looks like that! Shoot hot damn! Some people got it all!!!

  • @19111ellyc And...he's even got us...ha, ha...VERY lucky man, hey?!

  • @19111ellyc Oh, any man'ud be lucky to have a couple of 'chicks' like us...woo hoo...!

  • @19111ellyc I've got a side-channel if you want to 'visit'...but, you might have to do a 'technological-fiddle'...

    ha, ha...would like to meet...have a 'hoot & giggle'...over the air-waves, and in comfort and privacy...OUR side...

Could say more...but..."Women's Business", and all that....di

  • @19111ellyc Nothing to do with musical-instruments...ha, ha...could go on...but...ha, ha...a techno-fiddle...yes...'interesting'...ooowww....

  • God grant you glory, brave Father Murphy

And open Heaven to all your men

  • God bless father murphy and the boys of wexford.

  • Himself has a wonderful voice. And this, by far, is the BEST rendition of this song.

  • @monica9965 no, it was arranged very poorly. not meant to be a freaking march, its a lament! there was no anguish here as there should be.

  • @Wally773MTG

You may not lick it, but you can just chalk that up to your bad taste.

It is magnificent. Even if it isn't as you think it should be.

Sounds like he is singing it in a rather somber tone to me.

    Good day and God bless.

  • @gtkpaladin

You may not agree with me, but you can just chalk that up to your utter lack of comprehensive faculties.

Anthony Kearns has a wonderful voice. I was commenting on the orchestration, get an education.

Have a horrible day and god doesn't exist, you condescending half-wit.

  • @Wally773MTG

An Atheist shouldn't be criticizing anyone about "comprehensive faculties".

Nor does one need an "education" to comment on the good job done by the orchestra.

The singing is excellent, and the music is good.

I do appreciate your total lack of civility, but one can one expect from a self-centered, pretentious fool?

Have a good day, despite your intellectual stooper...

  • @gtkpaladin WOW, ok hahaha. Orchestration is not the "...job done by the orchestra." It is the way the piece is scored or arranged by the composer who did the orchestration, as I am now trying to explain for the third time. Just thought I might add that I don't LIKE this, not that I don't LICK this and that you probably meant "what can one" not "one can one." Also I am very sorry if you think ignoring physics, chemistry, and biology makes you a rational person hahahaha. I'm done with this.

  • @Wally773MTG

Bravo! You once again demonstrate your pretention, to say nothing of arrogance.

When i said "job done by the orchestra" i mean everything involved, including the composition and arrangement, kiddo. Though I do find your pathetic lecture on spelling to be amusing. Mea culpa, I made errors... As far as ignoring what amounts to science, you are the on guilty of that, in ignoring the most fundamental law... Causation. Anyway, you have a nice day kid, despite your confusion.

  • @Wally773MTG

By the way, you failed to capitalize the words at the beginning of your sentances in your first post... Tsk tsk, I guess you must be a fool too, no?

    lol

  • @Wally773MTG

I would like to apologize for my lack of charity sir...

    I offer no excuses.

I am sorry, I easily could have been less hostile.

Good day and Best wishes to you and yours.

  • @gtkpaladin I am by no means anything less than a hothead who needs to watch his words. I was bitter from the start, and with little reason. Thank you for the favor, I return it gladly...I am sorry for acting like an ass.

  • @Wally773MTG I quite often am hotheaded aswell, good sir.

    Thank you too.

    Have a splendid day.

  • @Wally773MTG Ha, ha...Greg., You a 'hot-head'?! I wouldn'a guessed, mate...

AND...acting like an 'ass', as well...?! Nice to see there are 'two' of us...ha, ha...god bless...di

  • @aussiechickdiana

Indeed, madame.. I am guilty of loosing my temper from time to time, thought this was more of just a lack of charity on my part.. Got off on the wrong foot and all that.

    God bless you too.

  • @gtkpaladin Got-off on the wrong foot?! You were 'firing on all cylinders'...ha, ha...glad to see a Christian is normal...VERY normal...

Anyhow, you guys have an advantage over we pagans...can go to Confession. "Ten Hail Mary's for you, my son...and...$2 in the poor-box...AND...don't do it again ok?" di (at least you still have your g s o h I s (greg sense of humour I see)...g b...

  • Ever since I first heard him sing it 10 years ago on the Dublin cd, this has been my favorite! I have literally listened to it EVERY DAY since. And every day since I found it on here, so a lot of those 18, thousand plus views were probably mine. I watch it daily just to watch him walk out on stage and even after 10 + years, I never tire of hearing him sing it. NOBODY else can sing it like he can!

  • The best voice I've ever herd.

  • Magnificent EVERYTHING! He's been doubly blessed with not only a magnificent voice, but with extremely good-looks.

  • Magnificent voice !

  • God grant you glory, brave Father Murphy

And open Heaven to all your men!

  • From Anthony Kearns' Official Facebook page:

"The boys of Wexford were led during the uprising by the priest Father John Murphy, who counted among his fellow leaders a young Father Mogue Kearns, one of Anthony's ancestors. In fact, Anthony was the last Kearns born in the farmhouse in which Father Mogue Kearns was reared."

  • Absolutely magnificent ! God bless Father Murphy and his men for their valient stand.

  • its great t see him doing so well his brother used t babysit me he lived just over road from me grandads

  • Did Anthony's brother really babysit for you? Was he a lot like Anthony? Did he play a musical instrument or sing? How did he keep you entertained? Interested parties REALLY want to know.

  • Ah, that worked.

If you'd like to know more about one of the men he fought with, google 'rebel hand' and you'll find out about Nicholas Delaney

  • This is a bit too romantic for me. But a great song about... I keep trying to post. The year after 1797.

  • I saw Anthony in a solo concert in a church the other night, and although he did not sing this song that night, he was MAGNIFICIENT!!!!! Can't wait until the next one-----

  • Anthonys excellent cover is from the 1998 RTE cash-in CD on 1798 rebellion bicentenary "Who fears to speak".

RTE had a disgusting record of censorship of all things republican over the previous 20 years and when I some of songs on RTE radio I couldn't believe it -things were censored that bad at the time. This marked the first signs of a "thaw" in their D4 pro-brit agenda.

  • I'm proud to say I know this man singing and prouder still to have heard him all through his career. This is how its done!

  • Great song about a great priest--an ancestor of mine! Sung by a spectacular performer. Thanks for posting such a moving piece of music!

  • Do you mean Bantry Bay?

  • Could you post 'Botony Bay'? Another song sung beautifully by Anthony.

  • yes! Decky do you have it, Id love to hear him do Botany Bay...?

  • Yes, I really meant Bantry Bay...oops.

  • Just a perfect performance

  • By a perfectly gorgeous person.face and voice. I dare anybody to sing it better!

  • Type Lady's Island in google earth! Its a small village where there is a pilgrimage every year. Basically a village in a nature reserve.

  • Thanks LeinsterLad. The scenery is lovely, but why should I be surprised? Most of Ireland is. Lucky you.

  • Up Wexford!!!!!! Lady's Island Area

  • Where's that?

  • WEXFORD RULES!!

  • Absolutely magnificent ! Bravo!

  • my great uncle wrote this song ahah yippee

  • Fantastic song, lovely voice indeed.

  • still listening my friend...

    :-)

  • I think he is the most beautiful creature God has put on this earth and I look at this video every day just to watch him walk down onto the stage. He has the voice and face of an angel.

  • @ellyc19111 yah hes a cutie...I first saw this concert my junior year, I got really sick I missed a lot of school, I recorded this on tape (you young kids know what is? lol)somehow it made me feel a better. *smiles*

  • my schools orchestra played "Time to say goodbye" in the Helix in Dublin with him singing...his sister is an Irish teacher in our school and she is a bitch :L

  • WHICH sister? He has 4

  • Have to ask. What does his sister have to do with HIM? He is a magnificent singer and a true gentleman, I myself, having met him many times can attest to that. I hope she gave you a passing grade in spite of your post here.

  • shes a stone cold bitch...and Anthony is what you said...

  • That's too bad. There's always ONE in every family. I hope she sees herself and changes her ways.

  • What is it about her that makes her so 'cold'? Is she nasty? Maybe she's jealous of you girls.

  • I had his sister for Irish for a year!! N she was a brilliant teacher, the only one I learned Irish from!! Much better than the idiot that I had after her anyways, that Donegal wench!

  • Great stuff Machree.

  • Oh yes id forgotten hes from Wexford, i have an aunt by marriage from there, lovely woman, XOXO aunt Pat if youre watching!!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this! I've been a fan of Mr. Kearns since the first PBS special when I was 9. I've had the great honor of attending a few of his solo concerts (not enough tho) and...words just can't do him justice. Not only is he handsome and has a great voice, but he is also such a gentleman, so very kind and gracious to his fans! Thank you again for posting this :)

And indeed his personal connection to the song makes it all the more wonderful. God bless him :)

  • omg! thanks for this! i remember my father watching this concert with me, tears in his eyes. he said he could tell by the way Anthony was singing that he meant every word...then we found out that Anthony is indeed from Wexford so this song would be dear to his heart. love it love it love it. TY!

  • I ask my husband every day 'why can't YOU sing like that?? Better still, 'why can't you LOOK like that'?

  • OMG! what an awesome singer and soooo easy on the eyes!!

  • tiocfaidh ar la

  • He's the BEST! Thanks for putting it up!

  • Really enjoyed that, thks very much.
