@77blitzwing It is simply a better built AKM (or more commonly Ak-47) They have variants that are semi-automatic that fire 7.62x51 and fully automatic that fire 5.56x45. Both rifles are fairly accurate but I would not say it enjoys firing corosive ammunition.

Need not worry! They just came out with a whole new generation of Galils dubbed Galil ACE. There are 3 short range ones - the 21 22 and 23, 3 medium range ones - the 31 and 32, and 3 longer range versions - the 51 and 52. They'll each run in the three most famous AR (assault riffle) rounds; 21 22 and 23 get 5.56mm round, 31 and 32 get the 7.62x39 rounds, and the 51 and 52 get the 7.62x51 rounds.

That's a very common flash hider for the ARM and AR variants. It is for launching grenades.

I hear the ARM and AR are very scarce in Israel now .....the SAR is about the only Galil left I think.

The flash hider you have is different than the one on the Galil which was in IDF service. For some reason, the Galil SAR did could not fire grenades from it's barrel - it has something that prevents it from having the rifle grenades attachment to be attached to it.

Galil ARs can still be found in some armories, but not in regular service.

Last time I saw a Galil SAR with a bi-pod was about 10 years ago. Wasnt as nice looking and in good shape like yours, though.

The IDF use the M16 since the 70th. The Galil is in use since the 90' and there are 4 Galil's versions. 2 of them are from 2009.

No, it goes clockwise.

At least in the Galil SAR. I cant think why it would be different with other Galil models.

Just a question, but where did you get such a bright handguard? I've never seen one with a bright wood like that, i've only seen ones made of dark wood and dark-finished

I refinished it with Tung oil and then waxed it.

oh yeah? Sanding that handguard must have been a pain in the ass. Did you sand it then applied multiple coats?

There is a way to disassemble the hand guard first, leaving only the two wood halves. That makes it much easier to sand. And yes, I put a few coats of Tung oil on it, waiting a day or two between coats.
