I remember seeing the WABOT at the 1984 Tsukuba Science Expo on my first trip to Japan. If I remember correctly, it could play just about anything because it was actually reading the sheet of music. And I remember its voice being clearer.
I used to have an instrument like this in our shop when I was demonstrator for YAMAHA Belgium in the 80ies. It's a FX-1, the biggest model of that time. I would have liked to have a demonstrator like this wabot !!! But I didn't and I had to demonstrate it myself the whole journey :-)
That's coolnest video I ever seen on YT. I founded picture of this robot somewhere over the internet - first I tought that was a fake but now I know this was possible those days.
It was made 30 years ago. The laboratory of Wasedadaigaccotowari Department of Engineering made it in 1984.
WABOT-2 can talk in Japanese, and can perform the tune at a middle level with the electronic organ by reading music by eyes, and using the both hands both feet.
In addition, to the recognition of person's singing voice, the automatic record in a musical note, and the accompaniment according to person's singing voice based on this.
1984 year is year when Macintosh was put on the market.
OK! What was the naked man in the backround about! That was weird! This was really interesting!

It's an interesting example of fine mechanics but otherwise it's one of the weirdest things I've ever seen.
