  • I actually made it to this concert on Maui...just remember bits and pieces of it, climbing that grassy hill to get up to the stage with my hippy family. Wish I could remember more of it.

  • i mean COME ON!! check out the drummer in his trance. jimi joins him, goes further, bassists joins in. FUCKIN GREAT! i wish there would be more footage

  • thats... thats FUCKIN GREAT SOUND for only three! guys!... thanks uploader

  • Amazing, in an article, SRV talked about hendrix and one of his probable influences: sly williams. when I listen the solos of this tone I understand how much took hendrix from sly williams: sly williams wrote Boot Hill.

  • True story most of the best music isn't appreciated till after the fact. I was shocked when Pink Floyd's Wall album put them on pop radio. So it goes...

  • @yourOpinionNotMine You should be even MORE shocked that one of the UK's 'greatest Acid Rock Bands'got SCREWED by Roger Waters :who insisted he was the TOTAL inspiration behind the FLOYD(Forget about D.Gilmour,etc....!!!)And WON the Court Case to obtain 'exclusive rights' over their name/music,etc....What aF?KIN TOSSER!!!!!!!! A bit like 'SIR'P.McCartney insisting that he was the 'TOTAL'inspiration behind the BEATLES(whatever happened to John??????Except for the CIA killed him!!!!creashonrebel

  • I love the movie Ezy Ryder ... but why do they have to blend it in this fantastic recording ?

  • There they go, riding off into the sunset--Wyatt and Billy (Fonda and Hopper symbolically representing the early-day Old West heroes.)

  • surf music!!!!

  • Sorry guys, but sometimes i really cant stand these "today's music is shit, only the old stuff is real"- thoughts.

YES, if you turn on the radio, the music is really a pain in the ears, but as we all know, thats just shitty popular music which has always been around.

And that doesnt mean that there isnt good stuff around anymore! Ever heard of bands like Colour Haze or Radio Moscow? There will always be bands that blow your mind away, as long as there are listeners. You just have to search !!!

  • LSD should not only be legal, it should be GOVERNMENT DISTRIBUTED.

  • @StratoBlaster420 It used to be lmao.

  • R.I.P. all of the 27 Club

  • LSD is good stuff , yes please, one more trip before I peg out !

  • there goes Dennis, Dennis Hopper... ridin' down the highway on his chopper.

  • Comment removed

  • That is how it looked when I found it on here five yaers ago !

  • like easy rider footage....but more Jimi!!!!

  • I appreciate the clips from the movie, if anyone has ever seen it, it's heavy- like Jimi

  • love it <3

but his voice sounds like homer simpsons! :) haha

  • It's still here thankfully. But I download it anyway, just in case

  • i think 'Voodoo soup' is the best jimi album, and it was all his unreleased stuff!

  • @snakeweirdo You know man, I just re read my comment, and maybe your dyslexic or somethin... But I really dont see where it doesnt make sense, if could elaborate I'd be happy to clear the Haze from your eyes... lol

  • love his screaming voice- yes and the wah wah

  • jimi looks so cool with that gibson Flyin v

  • iam in the youtube time machine rawkin the fuck out

  • We need to bring LSD back into our generation, uncle sam controls the music now... Every mainstream artist is totally working for the government and their music is dumbing down our society, Just listen to the lyrics... How can we go from "'Scuse me while I kiss the sky" to... "Lemme see dat booty drop".... wtf??

  • @lagmuncher we have been chemically labotomised kool aid msg aspartame television etc

  • @Meriamen even in the water... mercury? It's a fuckin metal, ya know what else is made outta metal? Robots! I mean I know it sounds stupid but c'mon? If they keep the music in check they control everything because it controls how you FEEL... And right now sadly no one is feeling anything, I mean seriously... And if the DO they don't use if for its potential, they use it to just to be fucked up at a party and end up doing stupid shit... LSD CAN BE USED IN A CORRECT WAY!

  • @lagmuncher LSD can be used in a correct way, but you've probably had to much, judging from your comment. Come on, dude, that wasn't even close to understandable.

  • @lagmuncher you should come to amsterdam than

  • @lagmuncher LSD...... Move to the West coast of Canada....LSD25 can be found all over, and your right, it is amazing stuff!! Everyone should try it....just once so they can see for themselves!

  • @lagmuncher Shut the fuck up, you moron.

  • When I got my "Valleys" CD I noticed they called it Lullaby for the Summer? Wondr why

  • O'Yeah!

  • god, this dumb assholes who made this movie really fucked up what would have been some great footage of Jimi playing live. Mike Jeffrey hired these guys because they were part of Andy Warhols factory and he thought that they part of the "hip" scene and would be perfect for making a counter culture movie. These guys were a fukin joke.

  • WOOOOOOW!!!!!!WOOOW!orgasmic!:X:X:XX:

  • man Jimi was getting funky in this song..Right On !!

  • haha my comment does sound like a commercial for youtube, but it does contain alot of rare music.

  • so rock and roll. wish it wasn't footage from the move eazy rider damn..

  • God this is so rock and roll.

  • music is music, shitty or great......its watever you prefer

  • @kushking3D wise words my friend

  • @hyperlexic2 not true clapton has even said himself that he a blues purist was blown away by hendrix. oh and how is there inovation in hip hop and all that shit its just the same fucken beat and lyrics reapeated 400 times in the same song

  • superb bass playing too

  • Hendrix was great, but there is great music everywhere and at every time. There were plenty of Jazz and Blues purists saying this was 'just noise' back then, like the classic purists said about jazz and blues before them. Today, there is so much innovation happening in the electronic / dj / hip hop world that it's hard to keep up with. Ever listen to Boards of Canada? I have had similar 'spiritual experiences' listening to them like I have had listening to Hendrix

  • I went to this area in Maui where Jimi played Rainbow Bridge. It's a little town called Paia and there's still beatnicks who live there that still remember when Hendrix lived there.

  • geiles lied, YEEEEEEEEAAAAAAHHH

  • Jimie Hendrix a true ambasodor of America

  • Duff Hendrickson is trying to get his "Strange Day on Maui" 16mm film restored to High Quality Hi-Def digital, to preserve the decaying 40 year old film. He might donate it to the Seattle Art Museum, doesn't like the attitude at Experience Music Project, and will not have anything to do with Janie Hendrix Family Inc.

  • @cosmospacey whered you hear that from i would love to read about can i get a link or somethin? thanks!

  • Listening to Hendrix always makes me feel good inside. Like hanging out with an old friend.

  • I'm not positive of this, but I remember reading somewhere this song was originally planned for the soundtrack of the film "Easy Rider" but Jimi- being the perfectionist- didn't finish it in time. It's too bad- would have been perfect for it!

  • awwww too bad the vid isnt of Hendrix

great song though thanks for posting

    its a good vid nonetheless

  • traveling with an omafits thrue Holland

  • @kilngkling ik ook ftw

  • Mitch Mitchell is a beast.

  • The footage is from the movie Easy Rider which is actually a superb movie. I do not agree however that they should replace the footage. They are at sunset craters national monument in the beginning which very close to flagstaff AZ. In case anyone wishes to know.

  • they would put me to watch redneck douchebag biker fags while hendrix is playin

  • ropewalkingelephant is so right!

  • this is my hendrix´s fave. great song great lyrics

  • I WISH I WAS ALIVE IN THE 60s

  • The intro sounds a little bit like Lullaby for the summer.

  • the scene where u first time see jack with his beauty on his head is E.P.I.C. !!!!

  • Billy Cox is GOD....

Jimi said', " once you die you've got it made for life"....

    RIP Mitch and Noel, too

  • fuck yeah jimi

  • I don't really know but did he make the song for the movie?? I know he made it after but still..

  • @brakspbfun Hendrix said that this song was inspired by seeing the movie. 'If 6 Was 9' is used in the film.

  • this is truly great music, and it is too bad no one has this kind of talent anymore

  • Why do all my friends hate this song? it's awesome!

  • was this... actually filmed on maui? the island

  • jimi lives for ever

  • I miss peter fonda and dennis hopper very much, there was an esquire article a bout bush being a roady for the rhe rolling stones, inflitration, cia assholes, bush was in esquire showing richard nixon how to pull down the zipper on the rolling stones album, never listen to a gay cheerleader setting national policy. Victor Ashe,

  • it's really sad these days that you can't even listen to the radio anymore because the music being played is so awful, we're lucky to have a service like youtube where we can easily listen to endless amounts of music from the past

  • @ropewalkingelephant such true words

  • @ropewalkingelephant i used to think the same until i listened to our local rock station that i always thought sucked but now there is a new dj and he plays jimi and such :D

  • @ropewalkingelephant dude im with u but stop bitchin pick up a guitar and play some fuckin music start a revolution

  • @ropewalkingelephant man youtube should pay you

  • @ropewalkingelephant These Cds, and many just as good, are all for sale external from youtube

  • @ropewalkingelephant radio is loaded with commercials, random contests, dj's that don't stfu, and all sorts of lame shit too. Cd's and all this new technology is waaay better.

  • @ropewalkingelephant dude just find a classic rock station like i do they play all sorts of stuff from the good times man plus youtube

  • in my country you have to be 18 to ride a motor cycle or a car, so for now i always liustnen to this song when i cruize on my tricked out bike -,- still this song is awesome ( i like my bike btw)

  • THis is a very rare video that was destroyed a while back That is why you see very little of the hendrix concert still its good enough(enjoy the music)

  • PEOPLE this is a recording from 40 YEARS AGO enjoy!! RIP JIMMI

  • his live is was better than recording! live his flyig V !!!!!

  • one of the last good clips from this era. history is being deleted so that we don't see how good the world used to be. soon there won't be any evidence left so get your fill now before they delete this clip!

  • @SAVAGEGREENMACHINE there will always be a way.

  • @SAVAGEGREENMACHINE luckily its been 11 months since you said that, and now I get to watch it

  • Dude, the quality of this vid is AMAZING!!

  • @sensational1982 are you high

  • @lem1968a1 No, but even if I were high I would still take into account that this vid is more than 40years old and, therefore, qualifies as a goody quality and well maintained video.

  • I like this version better then the record version...

  • allways the best.

  • Dennis Hopper RIP maybe he will get to meet James Dean again

  • it's all about freedom - the best feeling ever! That great song had to be included in the movie Easy rider. If i had to see just one person before i die it would have been Jimi

  • noel was bad but even miles davis said billy was funky

  • it would be nice to see jimi & the band instead of this easy rider overlay.

  • Was this a promo for?? Great music and flick..Thanks man!

  • Woah at 1:46 it sounded so kicka**!

  • damn you jack nichloson.

  • 1960-2000 music = BEST

    2000-Present = BULLSHIT

  • @FatKidCookie totally

  • Dude trust me there is still good music going on, it's just not the kind of music you hear on the radio or t.v. Progressive rock has his lot of good artists still producing and creating, trust me.

  • @FatKidCookie

is this something you just found out son? you better notify the news press!!!! quicky now!!! before another decade of this happen to us again.

  • for me, true music ended with disco, there's no sex or soul in modern songs

  • @bogdandisco

wel there is sex in todays music but thats from big fat booty bitches hoppin about to rap music al day long

  • @FatKidCookie

agree, but without 80's and some 90's bullshit

  • @FatKidCookie no knowledge bout the good shit being made,

  • @FatKidCookie the 90's was kinda... ehh it was the rise of all the bullshit today but the 80's was good with gn'r until they sold out and tupac and all those dudes (i honestly think rap meant a lot back then and it was actually music)

  • @FatKidCookie

Ahum, we also have eminem and new artist who can actually sing but they are fucking in the background because of bieber types

  • @Moordendvermaak the fuck you talking about eminem in a jimi hendrix video?

  • @FatKidCookie I think it's just mainstream music that sucks, there's a lot of good music that we're not hearing.

  • @FatKidCookie i'd say 1960-1980

  • @FatKidCookie i see where youre going with that. it sucks. but if you've ever heard of furthur. which developed in 2009. haha. well damn and phish and keller williams. and various othrs. media is bullshit. so fuck that. listen to whats good.

  • @FatKidCookie

    I'd say more like 1960 to 1980.

  • @SkylineToTheSeaAndMe

    The 80ties were terrible

  • @drdfreak - I agree, and that's why I said to 1980. Actually there was a lot of good music in the 1980s, but that's when it really started going downhill.

  • @FatKidCookie thats exactly what i was saying to somebody the other day. this decade is the worst in musical history

  • @FatKidCookie you think that because you are too stupid to find today's good music

  • @FatKidCookie

In general, I find that this is the case (Obviously there's a few exceptions) ...

    1960-1979 = BEST

    1980-1999 = DECENT

    2000-Present = BULLSHIT

  • @FatKidCookie <---- fat kid gets a cookie.

  • @FatKidCookie You clearly weren't there for new wave

  • @FatKidCookie

    1970's disco?

    1980's rap?

    1990's grunge?

  • @FatKidCookie i'd rather say it became shitty since 2004

  • @FatKidCookie

EXCEPT FOR RADIO MOSCOW BAND AND WHITE STRIPES AND BEADY EYE

  • The sounds and feeling Jimi could get out of one note! Sheesh. It's like he's tugging at the cosmic fabric and getting the cry of love of sadness of man's fate and existence over his place in creation like a newborn baby's cry or Earth Blues. When Jimi plays you get the feeling like he's the guitarist for some profound cosmic temple or interpreter or something. It's spooky and his playing is one of the 7 wonders of the world...

  • you hear this sounds too much in the 30+ years after this... Jimi was the only one really feeling it.

  • this should have been in the movie it would have been perfect

  • this beats the SHIT out of dub-step, what ever that name may be....

  • That psychedelic footage of Jimi on Maui was shot by the fab underground filmmaker Duff Hendrickson in 1970.

See the John Lennon_Duff movie about Maui "Over the Ocean."

Duff is now in Seattle, struggling to continue as a media artist.

  • 0:33-0:36 step dancing!!Greaaat footage!

  • it was to get closer to the mic.

  • Jimi is such a great autor. So powerful He had a POWER to make a good riff like:ezy rider, angel, freedom... and my favorite - LOVE OR CONFUSSION... i love jimi....................

  • At 3:32 that's what freedom on the open highway is all about.

  • Easy rider, goddamn I love that movie so much. Anyone reading this, Dennis Hopper the guy wearing the tan coat with fringe, is currently dying of cancer. He hasn`t got long.

  • Yeah :( It's the end of an era man.

  • Classic!!! saw Peter narrate this movie the other night. FYI the movie WAS the inspiration for this GREAT song. It moved JH when he saw it. they both are true icons of the era++++ checkout the new albam release The Dancer and The Driver... Luv and Freedom's commin our way..... don't worry about a thing....

  • Ezy Rider is one of those classic Hendrix songs that you never hear on classic rock radio and thats a shame cause this song is one of his best for my money.

  • yeah man where are the surfers ^^

  • MOST SPIRITED RYDER VERS.YET!

  • Another magical performance - I reckon whoever filmed this realised that it had its problems and the first thing that came to mind was Ezy Ryder ? and dubbed that over so as not to if you like ruin the visual performance if that makes sense ?

  • where is the surfer?

  • EZ Rider & hendrix will live on forever

  • We made Raibow Bridge happen. All my friends were swaying to the music...

  • Wow great fun

  • You've held that guitar?!?!? If I were you, I would NEVER wash my hands again.

  • ive held that very guitar, its in the memorabilia valt at the bottom of Londons Hard Rock Cafe. sent tingles down the spine......

  • @stevepmx Doubt that highly.

  • I know no one will believe me but I got to play that very Flying V about 30 years ago.

It was creepy actually. It was probably all in my head but if there is such a thing as a "vibe or mojo" I certainly felt it.

Yeah I know, everyone is going to say playing that guitar is all in my head. I don't give a fuck, I know I played it.

  • how did you get your hands on it?

  • I was friends with a guy that was very close friends with a one time owner of the guitar. The owner let him borrow it. Pretty good friends I guess huh? LOL

  • You may not believe this, but I played guitar live at this concert in Maui with that same Flying V guitar, about 30 years ago. Jimmy was too hung over. That's why the video is so bad. He asked me to substitute the EZ rider footage, then we went and served taro root at a homeless shelter on the islands and sent contributions back to help the mainland.

  • Who is Jimmy?

  • sotr59 are you kidding me

  • Kidding you about what?

  • @MrSplenectomy Dude!!!! I remember, you were the 5 year old playing behind his back!!! Just when you were gettin' yer groove on your Mom called you home for Mac and Cheese....and caught Jimi gettin' his groove on with your Mom....bummer!!!

  • @MrSplenectomy this video is 40 years old

  • love jimi never heard this song before, thanks for uploading

  • I had a bootleg of this on cassette once! Billy cox is the hendrix of bass! He keeps upwith him at all times and this is fucking blistering as is others, foxy lady is bastud awesome. As i've said elsewhere, Jimi left his bag at the crossroads and some of us have peered inside and no but none of us have come away straight! I'm not on citalopram for nothing you know!! peace and happiness to you all. Gnostic love.

  • Yeah I was thinking the same thing that Billy could keep up with the soul rythyms and groove. Not to disparage Noel since he doesn't need to explain himself to anybody considering some of the jams on record with him as well.

  • @Exiles800 Noel had awesome rythm, Billy was an amature, he held his own

but wasnt in the same league as noel

  • Yeah, but on the other hand Billy had a better understanding of Jimi's African rhythm roots and could maintain a better bottom along those lines. Jimi could go further out into that Rainbow Bridge sound with Billy than Noel. You can imagine if someone engineered Jimi's sound with selected artists to back him with composed music. I think Jimi sensed that and was trying to move in that direction.

  • @Exiles800 yea he jelled well with Buddy Miles with Band of Gypsies

    which was a great combo

  • The truth is that Noel Redding was a rhythm guitarist and the first time Noel played bass was with the experience, out of necessity. Jimi actually did a lot of the bass tracks in the studio and recorded Purple Haze and Hey Joe with Noel's telecaster.

You can hear Noel's rhythm guitar playing on Little Miss Strange - Electric Lady Land. Billy was a bass player from day one and you can hear it in his more traditional grove playing as opposed to Noel's more melodic (guitar like) approach.

  • @BarnesSean

    Clever and instructive comment !

  • @jinav62 Spanks !

  • @Coldsteal21 not really... he played with jimi for a long time in clubs before jimi got big, and thats a great bass sound, listen to 3:38 to 3:48, is that amateur to you? lol

dude... by the way, noel wasnt even a bass player, the experience was his first time as it... i love Noel, but theres no reason to say crap about Billy, by the way, jimi liked his playing a little more :)

  • @victorthegroover

    good ear man !

  • imagine being in right in front of that stack of marshalls with hendrix playing ezy rider .......shit....

  • your mom is a dirty whoreeeeeeeeeeeeeee...lol

  • Jimi was an innovator and a visionary. His guitar playing, like Janis Joplins singing, came from his soul.

  • @SgtSlickSleeve

    fuck janis

why do you mention her name??

  • Phenomenal performance. The energy is robust. I love that bass line Billy plays at 1:24, 2:42, 2:57, 3:39. He originally played that riff in the band of gypsies rehearsals for ezy ryder. Anyhoo, dig the song.
