@dargram depends on your state. if you live in NJ its curently a 230-250 hour program, but that will probubly go up as they just re-did the entire program. it all depends on your state. i highly recomend it if your the type that cant be cooped up indoors/behind a desk. i love working out in the field. =)
:) im only 15. and i cant wait till im 16 and can take the things i need to become a paramedic/ EMT:) SO STOKED! wanted to help people since i was very young:)
@Dragill Some EMTs aren't qualified to use AEDs. Also, the solution to a myocardial infarction isn't always found by shocking the victim, sometimes cold water and an ABD is the best shot at a quick revive. Otherwise, that's what we paramedics are trained for.
@Ufosrcool24 You don't need any training to use an AED, however EMTs especially should be trained in the use of one. The solution to an MI is NEVER to shock the patient. Defibrillation is for patients in cardiac arrest, with a rhythm of VF or VT. I'm not use what an "ABD" is, and I can assure you that a cold glass of water will not help a MI patient, and certainly not a cardiac arrest patient. Paramedics offer ADVANCED life support. BLS involves AED. Only compressions & AED will save a patient.
i love it! im done with my class i just have to take the national registry exam!

If you're an EMT, please PLEASE don't defribulate a "heart attack" victim. T'is for certain types of cardiac arrest.
