Getting to know Bishan is a good idea to incorporate into the orientation programme. However, the orientation camp has been toned down a lot over the years, perhaps due to increasingly concerned parents over their children's safety.

Some years ago, orientation camp was held at a remote campsite called Sarimbun in the western part of Singapore. The Sec 1s were made to roll in puddles of mud and rainwater and slept on wooden planks in sheltered huts.
