  • I'm assuming by now you have this working well... but I wonder why you bother with the "tank." 100ft of 2 inch poly pipe in a role is enough water when mixed with cold. I heated a 15ft round pool by diverting water from the pump up onto my roof... on a warm day... I would get steam!

  • your chickens are so cute and happy sounding. The video is great. Thanks for sharing

  • Thank you for your kind comment.

  • I grow lots of bamboos too and one of the best ones for me so far is Phyllostachys Parvifolia in my z6 climate in PA.

I don't even use barriers on mine because it works well enough to rhizome prune around the perimeter. You could dig a 1ft deep trench and backfill it with grass clippings too.

  • Thanks for you comment. We put in a metal barrier and I am posting the videos of it today.

  • You should have this years shoots up and running by now. Give us a video update. My suspicion is that at some point you will have shoots coming up through your shower floor and eventually some foundation damage and it may even work its way into your sewer system.

In Japan, some bamboo has been known to come right up through the front room floor. Powerful shoots!

  • The shoots for the shower came up about four days ago and as of now we have 27 shoots. It is 2 years since we first planted them. That is not counting our stone bamboo that shoots up in june. Both of our bamboos are starting to run and I hope to contain it to the one area using metal ground barriers. There is enough access under the shower to cut shoots before the go through the floor if that happens. I will post videos once the shoots are fully grown.

  • So what Bamboo type would you recommend to someone who has never grown it before and wants to build with it on a homestead like you are doing? The Yellow Groove? Or is there another variety that you think would be easier/more hardy etc etc.. We've been interested in growing bamboo recently, so I'm thankful you posted this!

  • We went to a bamboo that was about an hour from our house called Mid Atlantic Bamboo. They have a great website with each bamboo is given ratings for its uses like timber-edible shoots-ornamental- crafts-cold resistant and so on. We were blown away by the various kinds of bamboo. It was a tough decision but we selected on stone bamboo because it was strong and we like the way it looked.

  • Now we are looking to purchase some moso bamboo which is a timber bamboo and has the best shoots to eat. We will probable purchase the Anderson Clone version from Lewis Bamboo.

Yellow grove is prominent where we live because of it cold hearty nature. It is best to list what your needs are then match it up to one of the many bamboos that are available.
