If you spray a little bit of oil at a time and stuff small peices of papertowels into them theres alot more smoke :)

Mmmm! Some of those motors glowed like lightbulbs! :-D
Some of them lasted quite long, and realeased A LOT of magic smoke!
It amazes me how they fitted all that smoke into those at the factory! LOL!

do you use a variac with a bridge rectifier?

@maidiremirko Mainly yes! And through a 110v site transformer to bring the voltage down a bit and to isolate the output from the mains. I get 0 - 190v dc this way.
