umm can i just say WOW!!! That is a GREAT job by the Euphonium player!!! We almost did this as a high school. I play Euphonium and only our 1st chair player could tackle this solo!! Love this song though!
@berotrix You think this is tough then you won't be able to handle other pieces like Rolling Thunder, The Trombone King, Fate of the Gods, or any of the level 5 pieces.
@necromancerBX Yeah, we played Rolling Thunder 2 years ago in my high school band, also very challenging. I can't say that I've had the opportunity to play The Trombone King or any other level 5 pieces as I'm just graduating high school this year. Looking forward to playing even harder music in college and beyond!
This was one of the audition pieces, for the euphonium players, for the Univ of Michigan band under Revelli. If you couldn't play it, you weren't seated.
Songs are sung, and pieces are played. Nobody played this "song" in their high school or college bands, because it isn't a song. Also, why is it that every single comment on every single piece of classical music is people anonymously bragging about playing the piece from the video? "MY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BAND IS PLAYING MAHLER 5 THIS YEAR, BUT WE R NOT AS GUD AS CHICAGO SINFUNEE
You THINK your High school band is better because they can play fast, but 99% of the time High Schoolers play very square. Chances are, that they haven't had the life experiences to fully relate to classical music (or music in general) Yes, maybe they can play fast notes but can they really emote the emotions portrayed by the composer?
Your high school band is better than many college bands I've heard. What school is it?
Karl L. King (1891-1971) wrote such wicked euphonium parts because he was a great euphonium player. But in your photo, why does he have a trumpet sitting in front of him?
When I was in high school, my Wind Ensemble played this song at the All-State Festival and we got a superior award and I won best soloist. for the Euphonium part...now it makes me wish I kept playing in college.
I adore the first clarinet part. But even as a woodwind, I totally respect the amount of talent and practice the euphonium has to dedicate to this piece.
OMG! I play Euphonium and the top band at my school made Mid-West and our director wants to play this!!! We are a good section but dang that sounds hard and fun too!!!!! lol
@Mindfor2012 hell yeah, only of about a year now though. started learning my junior year, now a senior rocking 1st. originally a trombone player and still am ;D
@CycloniteKiller I got a similar story. Started in sophomore year now a senior. I was a trombone player now a full on euph player Rockin SOA, DCI, and All States.
My High School Winds Ensemble is playing this at Music for All this weekend in Indy. Of the 5 songs they're playing, this is the only version of any of them I found online that I like better than the one they're already playing.
gahhh i wanna play this soooo badd for contest my band director is debatin on either this, nobles of the mystic shrine, and the world is waiting for the sunrise for our march and this one is my fav i want that fun euphonium part =]
We are currently playing this in band and we are taking it in four four time because it's WAY too fast. And haha I agree with you Flutenatic. We tried to play it that fast at first. We failed. Miserably.
Guess what instrument is super fun to play on this song?
Slide trombone.
