Logic Pro 9 Preview - Part-2

I want to do some serious recording of my own songs. I own Cubase studio4 with the EMU 1616 on windows. Is the quality equal to logic? And do I have to buy a preamp to get a thicker sound?

salut and thank you for this review! i got logic 9 because you showed me i can indeed install this on my G5, so a big thank you for this... i only have one question if you don't mind... which video card does your G5 have to run this 42" hdtv of you (did you have to upgrade to something more than a 128mb card like a lot of them had?)? thank you again dancetech!

@ouisouais - i use a standard mac g5 dual 2.0 with a radeon 9600, it runs the TV screen via the tv's rgb connection, 1920 x 1080 @ 59.9 hertz - no problems.

@dancetech Hi, Which OS X are you running on your machine? I have a PPC G5, dual-core 2.3 GHz, running OS X 10.4.11 at the moment, but when I attempt to install Logic 9 I just get the message 'This software requires and intel based mac' before I even get to click the 'continue' button on the install window. And it is a legitimate, genuine copy of Logic!

@dancetech Thanks for the reply, yeah it is a geniuine legal copy, bought a few weeks ago... confusing! I can only think that it's my old osx, or that they've started selling them with an update that won't allow it to run on power pc.

well I didnt need to unistall anything. Were you using a LEGAL copy of Logic 8 when you upgraded?

i just installed logic 9 on a g5 1.8 dual 4gb ram, works fine. NOTE...if you have aprevious installation of logic, you wiil need to delete its xskey.pkg file and install logic 9's manually.

This could be happen with various applications and unfortunately Apple is leaving the pre-Intel Macs without support day by day

My questions are:

Do the additional apps like Waveburner, Soundtrack Pro and Main Stage function on PPC also?

yes it runs stable but with bugs like all shitty apple s/w. for example i can reproduce a bug when using FLEX which deletes ALL your music from the Logic song arrangement, and it cant be recovered. Problem is the updates to finalcut have screwed my video capture system and now i cant edit my captures, that's why i havent posted any more videos since installing new FCS!! - ii'm trying to find a fix now.

I've got a copy of logic express 8 and i would like to know if I could use the 'logic pro 9 update', to update express 8 to pro 9?? or do you have to have studio 8? please could you tell me :) thanks

Yes you can Kris. I just did it yesterday. Make sure it's a legit copy of LE8. It may/may not prompt you for your LE8 serial number. Also, it will take a hellacious 4 hours to install, but well effin' worth it. I finished just b4 midnight, and was getting wide eyed at the presets it offers. You'll be in heaven....

YES, you CAN upgrade to Logic Studio 9 from Logic Express 8. It is $299 .  I JUST bought it yesterday and have had NO problems. It runs VERY smooth on my Macbook (Older white one). Go get it and HAVE FUN!!

Encouraging indeed! I think the packaging said that the entire suite would not work on a G5 - I can't remember if that's why it said. However this video shows you can use Logic 9 on a G5 - YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
